Jedi Mind Tricks' Vinnie Paz Preps Solo Debut
Author: Andres Tardio
Fans of Jedi Mind Tricks can now look forward to a debut solo effort on behalf of Vinnie Paz. However, the South Philadelphia-based rapper says there is no need to worry about him being upset with his group work. Instead, Paz seems devoted to taking on a new challenge and with Assassin's Creed, he's ready to face the doubts and expectations others might have about him.
"This solo record isn't a matter of being unhappy with Jedi Mind Tricks or me needing to satisfy my ego," he said via statement. "It's just an artistic challenge that I've wanted to tackle for awhile now and the timing is right."
He also says that many people might be puzzled by his direction, since the latest from JMT has basically featured Paz on the mic and Stoupe manning the boards exclusively. Still, he says that going solo gives him the chance to do something different with his music.
"Our fans are some of the best fans in independent music, but that success creates certain expectations of what Jedi Mind Tricks music should sound like, which as an artist is a blessing and a curse. This solo record is about stepping away from those expectations for a minute and challenging myself to try new things as an artist."
In an effort to go that different route, Paz has enlisted the services of Beanie Sigel, Clipse, Freeway and Paul Wall. Production will also come from Da Beatminerz, Madlib and Lil Fame of M.O.P. among others.
The album will be released this year through Enemy Soil but no finalized release date has been established as of yet. His first single, "Drag You to Hell" is already out. Paz is currently on tour with his group JMT's Hell Awaits Tour with Esoteric and Reef the Lost Cause.
Earlier this year, JMT partner Stoupe released The Decalouge
