Lupe Fiasco will be doing his part this holiday season by handing out winter coats to needy kids in his Chicago hometown.
Chi-Town’s Channel 7 news reports that the Grammy-award winning MC chipped in $5,000 in an effort to help families in the area. He has already given out hundreds of jackets on the East Side of town and plans on heading to his West Side neighborhood later today.
In related news Lupe will be heading overseas later this month for Australia’s annual Big Day Out Festival. The show travels throughout the country and spans several dates in January and February. – Elan Mancini

Talib Kweli Clarifies Label Situation: “In No Way Have I Been Dropped,” Reunites W/ DJ Hi Tek
After rumors recently hit the net that Talib Kweli was dropped from his label Warner Bros. Records, XXLmag.com caught up with the Brooklyn rapper to set the record straight and find out when fans can expect another release from Reflection Eternal.
While Kweli released his most commercially successful album on the label - 2007’s Eardrum debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 – he said that he will no longer be working with Warner. “In no way have I been dropped, I’ve never been dropped,” he clarified for XXL. “My joint venture with WBR, Blacksmith Music, will no longer be distributed by WBR because there was not a lot of support for it in that building. We are currently choosing between deals we have for distribution somewhere else.”
The MC wanted to also make clear to fans that even though he has parted ways with the label, he is still contractually inclined to record several albums for Warner, including the highly anticipated follow up disc to 2000’s Reflection Eternal album Train of Thought with producer DJ Hi Tek. “The deals that were in place before we made this decision still stand,” he said. “WBR/Blacksmith is still owed albums from myself, Talib Kweli and Reflection Eternal, Hi Tek and I. Reflection Eternal is next on the schedule and I am currently in Cincinnati recording that album.”
Not only is Kweli in the Natti with Tek making new music but the two will also be hosting and performing at a New Year’s Eve Bash at local club Celebertie’s. The event, which will also feature DJ Eque on the ones and twos, kicks off at 9 p.m.

The obscenity-laced clip finds a shirtless SB eating take out with his SOD crew, explaining why Esco should have thought twice before saying “hip-hop was dead.” “Real talk the nigga that killed hip-hop for real is Nas, dawg,” he said. “He came out publicly and said hip-hop is dead, and then after that everybody start saying [it]. In an anticipated documentary entitled, I Am Choke, No Joke, former BET and Roc-A-Fella employee Choke No Joke plans on airing out the recent feud between Damon Dash and Jay-Z [click to read].
Expected to be released some time next year, I Am Choke, No Joke will detail the events that led to Dame Dash and Jay-Z's falling out and the downfall of Roc-A-Fella Records. In the early '90s, Damon Dash along with Jay-Z and Kareem Burke founded the label, management firm and consulting company.
According to Choke, tension between Jay-Z and Damon Dash began to reach new heights when Dash signed Ol' Dirty Bastard and proposed that Cam'ron become vice president of Roc-A-Fella.
In a recent video, Damon Dash publicly aired out his frustration with Jay-Z informing viewers that, "What he did to me publicly could be seen as so heinous and foul that how could I ever tell somebody, 'Don't do nothin'? . . . Before, I might have taken a bullet or a punch for Jay, now I just don't get involved. That's the way he chose it to be. You won't be hearing me say nothing about him, but I won't be jumping in a fight for him."
Jay-Z has yet to respond to the alleged feud between himself and Dash.
In recent months, the two business men have seen an extremely varying amount of success. Jay-Z recently made millions after selling Roc-A-Wear, plans on opening a new club, and is part owner of the New Jersey Nets.
On the other hand, Damon Dash has been reportedly struggling financially. Two of his Manhattan homes are under foreclosure due to non-payment of mortgage.

A group of Chicago rappers have come together to create the second modern take on the 1989 empowerment posse cut “Self-Destruction.”
The new version, released yesterday (Dec 19), features Syleena Johnson, Twista, Crucial Conflict, Phil G, Kenny Bogus, Straw, Pugs Atomz, and KRS-One, who’s Stop The Violence Movement inspired the original song.
“Self Destruction 2009” was organized by CoalMine Music executive Joanne Coalman, once an active member of the Chicago division of Stop The Violence.
The song was recorded as a deterrent to the rising crime statistics in Chicago, which saw a 2.9 percent in crime indexes from January to August of this year, as compared to the same time frame in 2009.
The song is now available for free online.
Earlier this year, KRS-One re-launched his Stop The Violence campaign by uniting over 55 artists in LA to record “Self-Construction.”

John Forte Plans Youth Outreach, Friend Kweli Celebrates His Release

Grammy winning producer and rapper John Forte was released today (December 22) after serving seven years in prison on a drug smuggling conviction.
The rapper gained his freedom after singer Carly Simon, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch and others assisted in getting the rapper’s conviction commuted via a pardon from President George Bush.
Forte learned of his sentence being overturned on November 24 by a fellow inmate who watched the news on CNN.
The Brooklyn rapper began his promising career in 1996 by writing two songs on the Grammy-winning, nine-times platinum Fugees’ classic The Score.
Now 33-years-old and with a new lease on life, Forte’s lawyer explains that the rapper/producer wants to deter young people from following the path that landed him a mandatory minimum sentence of 14 years in federal prison.
“He wants to help young kids understand they have options and help deter them from making some of the mistakes he made,” Forte’s lawyer Aarti Tandon told The New York Post.
Forte’s former college roommate and longtime friend Talib Kweli is set to celebrate the former Refugee All-Star’s release tonight at BB Kings in New York City.
The event will feature performances from LA’s Blu and Exile, and a headline, live band performance by Kweli’s newly formed Idle Warship, a supergroup project featuring Kweli and soul /alternative singers Res and Graph Nobel. Doors open at 7PM, with DJ duties to be
handled by K Salaam and DJ Eque.

The government of Germany is facing criticism for sponsoring a West Bank tour featuring militant, German-Palestinian rapper Massiv.
Massiv, real name Wassim Taha, is viewed as one of the more popular and controversial emcees from Germany.
His songs heavily critique social discrimination and advocate armed revolution.
The rapper has refered to Al-Qaeda and other militant groups as freedom fighters who deserve to be praised for “their fight against the Israelis, the Americans, and the West.”
Massiv often wears a Palestinian keffiyah, a traditional garment, during his shows in support of the Palestinian’s fight for independence.
In one of his promotional posters, the rapper imitates the stone-throwing gesture seen by many Palestinian youths against Israeli forces.
Massiv and three other Palestinian rappers were sponsored for the West Bank tour by Germany’s Goethe Institute, a government backed organization which aims to promote cultural dialogue and understanding.
The institute claims they weren’t aware of Massiv’s controversial lyrics, or the fact that German authorities allege he is connected with Arab street gangs in Berlin.
During the tour the rapper did refrain from making controversial statements, but the outing still drew the ire from German political and parliament members, when participating London rapper Shadia referred to suicide bombings as “the weapon of the oppressed.”
Goethe Institute President Klaus-Dieter Lehmann conceded that his organization made an error in selecting Massive for the tour.
“Some of Massiv’s texts are not free of violence,” Lehmann stated. “In the future we should be more careful with whom we invite.”
At press time Massiv has not commented on the tour’s fallout.

Hip-Hop Soul queen Mary J. Blige and rapper Jay-Z are at the center of a new federal lawsuit involving allegations of song theft.
According to the suit Jermaine Jumpp and Michael C. Adams, claim they gave a “compact disk” to the “office” of hitmaking producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, that contained a song called “On My Grind.”
The New Jersey pair further state that Blige’s single “Enough Cryin',” which was recorded four years later and produced by Jerkins, sounded very similar to “On My Grind.”
The new lawsuit comes months after Blige was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over her hit song “Work That.”
That song's owner, Drama Family Entertainment, filed its lawsuit against Blige in August, claiming the songstress used "Work That" without its permission.
Music for the single was allegedly written by producer Theron “Neff-U” Feemster.
Despite Blige being prominently named in Jumpp and Adams’ lawsuit, TMZ.com reports that Jay-Z’s role in the situation is unclear in the suit.

The new website will offer viewers 24-hour access to exclusive interviews, sketches and music videos, in a way that Whoo Kid says will change the face of the online urban landscape.
The network will utilize the G-Unit DJ’s extensive connections in the sports and entertainment world, to bring together unlikely group of interview subjects.
The launch broadcast will feature interviews with Cedric the Entertainer, Jamie Foxx, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent, and Robert Patterson, known for his role in the Harry Potter franchise, and star of the new movie Twilight.
According to Whoo Kid, RadioPlanet.tv will offer fans of Whoo Kid’s Sirius Satellite on-air antics a visual alternative.
“My radio show is really out of control. Imagine if you’re watching it now,” Whoo Kid told AllHipHop.com. “I’m just there to make people laugh…It’s been a long time coming, ‘cause we’ve been filming for like years…the comedy is hilarious, definitely not what you see all the time. Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith Music imprint has dissolved its distribution arrangement with Warner Brothers Records.
The Brooklyn MC confirmed the split to AllHipHop.com today after rumors surfaced online that he had been released from his contract with the label.
"My label Blacksmith is no longer distributed by Warner Brothers, which means they will not put out Blacksmith future projects,” Kweli told AllHipHop.com. “I still have a deal to put out Talib Kweli and Reflection Eternal thru Blacksmith/WBR."
Blacksmith Music was born out of a partnership between Blacksmith Management, originally established by Kweli’s partner Corey Smith, and Warner Brothers in 2006.
The roster includes Jean Grae, Strong Arm Steady and Guyanese/Canadian import Anjulie, the label's sole non-Hip Hop act.
Since its launch, the label has released a compilation album entitled Blacksmith: The Movement, collaborative projects between Kweli and Madlib, and Jean Grae’s critically acclaimed, 9th Wonder-assisted Jeanius.
The label is also planning a new album by Strong Arm Steady, entitled Arms & Hammers and Party Robot, the debut album by Idle Warship, Kweli’s new group with singer Res and Canadian singer/rapper Graph Nobel.
While release dates have yet to be announced, all three projects were originally slated for 2008 releases, which would lend some truth to rumors that the split was related to the current economic situation.
Kweli’s fourth solo album, Prisoner of Consciousness and Reflection Eternal’s Train of Thought II were also scheduled for 2008 releases.

Eminem Talks Album, Leaked Track
Eminem took some time out of his busy recording schedule to speak to Billboard.com about his upcoming and highly anticipated release, Relapse.
"Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man," Eminem says. "Just him banging away on tracks and me getting that little spark that makes me write to it. I don't have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go -- not even close. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse.'We are up to our old mischievous ways ... let's just leave it at that."

After a rocky, three-year stint with Sony/RED, Queens rapper Consequence [click to read] has recently signed with Motown Records.

X-Clan Announces New Album, Features Bun B
Hip Hop veterans, X-Clan, are trying to wave the flag for real Hip Hop, as they announced their second reunion album, Mainstream Outlawz will be released next month.
X-Clan founding member Brother J explained that the album is designed to show the Hip Hop community that the way to battle the “Hip-Hop is Dead” negativity is to keep making good music.
He said, "We urge our listeners to stop complaining and start listening, because Hip Hop is alive and well. It's time for the underground to take the spotlight."
Last year, X-Clan reunited from an almost 15 year hiatus to put out the album Return to Mecca [click to read]. The album was described by the Los Angeles Times as "a rare rap Return well worth the wait."
This year Mainstream Outlawz was built over a year long process that included collaborations with Bun B [click to read], Medusa, and Supernatural.
Brother J states the motivation for the collaborations was to work with artists who wanted to keep making good music.
"If you don't take the time to learn the full spectrum of Hip Hop, you can't keep complaining that the game is tainted and off track. There are enough active artists out here that are keeping it real in the name of music and not fad.”
“There are some independent groups that deserve respect for their grind and we are one of them," Brother J said.
The debut track of the album called "Down By Law" can be heard online at X-Clan’s MySpace page. Mainstream Outlawz is set for a January 27th, 2009 release through Suburban Noize Records.

UK Producer Endemic Readies Debut With Sean Price
2009 is set to be a big year for US releases but UK producer Endemic hopes to hold his own against the heavyweights with his debut album Terminal Illness.
With guest appearances that include Sean Price [click to read], Hell Razah, Planet Asia and Killah Priest [click to read], Endemic is attempting to capture the mid-'90s New York sound that he loved to listen to growing up.
"My album isn't necessarily what you expect of when you think UK Hip Hop," said the Nottingham producer.
Endemic explained that his deejay and production style is heavily influenced by US producers like RZA, Pete Rock, and Da Beatminerz. "I try to produce beats that will get ill emcees moved to rip on the mic."
UK-based artists C Mone, M9 and Triple Darkness coupled with Endemic’s own twist on the drum heavy soul melodic rhythms of the east coast gives the album a unique feel. Politically charged lyrics also hearken back to N.W.A. and Public Enemy records the 12 year veteran said he was introduced to by his brother back when he began listening to music.
Endemic said, "I was mesmerized [by N.W.A. and Public Enemy], as soon as me and my boys could put our pennies together, we bought turntables and started gigging."

Pioneer Hip-Hop turntablist Grandmaster Flash is set to kick off 2009 with a brand new studio album entitled The Bridge: Concept Of a Culture.
Backed by Strut Records and Flash’s very own Adrenaline City Entertainment, the LP marks the DJ's first major label release of all original material since 1988’s On the Strength, the last album that featured the original Furious Five lineup.
A student of fellow Hip-Hop legends Pete “DJ” Jones and Kool Herc, Flash is credited with popularizing the groundbreaking turntable technique known as “cutting,” where phrases, edits, and overlays are done simultaneously between two records.
The technique was prominently displayed on the seminal 1982 street single “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel,” which created a blueprint for a whole generation of turntablists, and solidified the DJ’s status as the backbone of early Hip-Hop culture.
Last year, Flash and the Furious Five became the first rap group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Aware that the new album represents his introduction to a new generation of fans, Flash meticulously worked on the project for the last two years.
The purpose was to craft an album that reflects Hip-Hop’s current uniting power as a worldwide phenomenon, and Flash’s 30 plus years as an ambassador of the culture.
“As a DJ, I’ve been blessed to see many different people, places, and styles,” Grandmaster Flash explained. “The album title represents all the bridges I’ve crossed worldwide.”

Akon Addresses Allegations of False Criminal Background

Dogged by allegations from the The Smoking Gun that his criminal background is fabricated, superstar singer Akon has decided to come clean regarding the accusations against him.
In an interview with Access Atlanta, the singer clarified his previous statements that he was incarcerated for three years.
"I got caught up in cars and this and that. Kept going in and out of jail. Three months here, six months there, two weeks here," Akon explained. "And it was to a point where I was like, ‘This really doesn't make any sense. What am I doing?’ And the last stretch I did was six months in Dekalb County (Georgia) after I was pulled over in a stolen car."
According to the multi-talented artist, his previous statements of doing a three year bid in prison represented the accumulation of all of his run-ins with the law, not one stretch.
"So I guess when I was being interviewed, and I would say, ‘Yeah I did about three years,’ I wasn't saying I did a three year stretch, I was calculating the time from when I started to get in trouble to the time when I said, ‘Enough is enough.’ And I think that was mistranslated in the Smoking Gun article and other stories."
Akon also dismissed the story of him being jailed for being a leader of a car theft ring, revealing his time in prison was always for receiving stolen goods.
"The majority of the time I was in jail was for theft by receiving. I was always receiving stolen cars," Akon states. "I mean, honestly, if I was, they would have had enough to make it stick. They tried to convict me as (a) ringleader and they didn't have enough evidence."
For Akon, the most important aspect of his story is that his persona was a vehicle for him to inspire those who are and have been incarcerated to turn their lives around through hard work and personal accountability.
"And to give those people who I met behind bars who were so talented. ‘Locked Up’ was like an anthem to them, before it was a hit record," Akon adds. "I'm not trying to glorify convicts and jail life and gangsters."
Akon's statements come as he celebrates the December 2 release of Freedom, his third studio album. The LP features appearances from Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Wyclef Jean, and Kardinal Offishall.

Rap Group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Sued By Jazz of Tacoma

Three members of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have been named as codefendants in a lawsuit filed in Tacoma, Washington last month.
Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone and Wishbone are accused of breaching their contract with a Tacoma basketball team by failing to appear for a scheduled performance.
In a lawsuit filed on behalf of The Jazz of Tacoma, attorney David P. Butler alleges that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony entered into an agreement with the Jazz to perform at a location to be determined the plaintiff.
Upon signing the contract on April 13, 2007, the defendant forwarded an advance payment to the group.
However on the date of the performance, which was not provided in the lawsuit, the rappers failed to appear.
The plaintiff alleges further that no contact was made to cancel or reschedule the performance.
Since the breach, the lawsuit goes on to say, several attempts have been made to rectify the situation, to no avail.
As a result, the Jazz of Tacoma are seeking compensation of $280,000 as well as attorney fees and declarative and injunctive relief.
Also named as defendants in the suit are DJ Ice, who tours with the group, and the Los Angeles-based Adler Booking Agency. Earlier this year, Krayzie, Layzie and Wish reunited with Flesh-n-Bone, who was released from prison on July 13.
The multi-platinum group is currently working on a reunion album titled Uni5, which is set to hit stores on June 30 of next year.
They have invited fans to participate in the project by leaving messages on an open line, which will be sampled at random on the song “Thugs ‘n Blood.”

Core DJ's Launch International Syndicated Radio Show

The Core DJs have launched an internationally syndicated radio show, which made its debut two weeks ago.
The new show has already been picked up by close to 20 radio stations so far, including affiliates in Belgium, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria.
The show, which follows an urban/rhythmic format, is assembled at the top of the week by a crew of approximately eight members of the Core DJs organization, with Vice President Derek “The Bigg DM” Jurand serving as Program Director.
Holding the position of host is Uncle Woody, an on-air personality from Charleston, WV’s 98.7 The Beat, joined by Dallas duo D’Lyte and Ebony, better known to K104 FM’s listeners as the “On-Air Divas.”
The Core DJs Radio show is distributed to affiliate radio stations every Wednesday of the week.
“The feedback we’ve gotten so far is excellent,” Core DJs Founder and CEO Tony Neal told AllHipHop.com. “[The] first week, five stations aired it; this past week, eleven. Next week looks like it will be 17 or 18 plus overseas. We also have a few internet stations that [also] want to air the show.”
The Core DJs Radio show can currently be heard on stations in Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North and South Carolina, and West Virginia. It also airs on Sirius/XM’s Shade 45 on Sundays at 1pm.

"When I decided to break out of my bedroom and expose myself to the DJ community, I had one main goal: to give back to the art form,” Rob Swift told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “A lot of upcoming DJs strive to emulate those they look up to. I worked towards being different from my influences because, in order for me to have an impact on the DJ world, I had to figure out how to birth a new approach to DJing. I achieved this by thinking outside of the box and challenging myself to incorporate the various forms of music [predominantly Latin and Jazz] I was introduced to as a youngster by my father and older brother."
As the Technics Spin is the follow-up to Swift’s first DVD, As the Tables Turn.
The Jackson Heights, Queens native is noted for his appearance in the DJ Documentary Scratch, as well ass collaborations with various artists like Fat Joe, Cypress Hill, Blue Man Group, Herbie Hancock, Bob James, Linkin Park and Good Charlotte.
This year, Swift became the first Hip-Hop DJ to be invited to perform at the Savannah, Georgia Jazz Festival.
An up-close look at Swift’s creativity is not the only thing found on As the Technics Spin, as the video highlights behind the scenes footage of Swift's involvement with aspiring DJs at the Scratch DJ Academy in New York City.
Fans will also be privy to the disc spinner’s method behind selecting his records and deciding what sections to manipulate as well as the development of his actual routines.

New EPMD Album Set for Dec. 9th

The nine-year album drought of legendary group EPMD comes to a close in two weeks, as the duo will release their long-awaited 7th album We Mean Business.
The LP comes nearly 10 years after Out of Business (1999), then billed as the duo’s final studio album.
Despite that tagline, the album failed to connect with critics and fans, and to date is the only EPMD album not to go gold.
Cognizant that they’re in an era where profitable record sales are becoming scarce, member Parrish Smith detailed that unlike other old school groups EPMD has grasped the concept of not waiting on labels to create avenues for them.
“Now that we’re in a new era and the game is changed, we realize that it’s different from when we handed in a CD to our first label to being at Def Jam,” Smith explained. “Erick and I created our own vehicle to be able to drop this album. That’s how we came with the title We Mean Business, because we do.”
For the new album, the Brentwood, Long Island natives have enlisted a higher but complimentary list of guests in KRS-One, Raekwon, Havoc, Teddy Riley, Method Man, Devin the Dude, 9th Wonder, Keith Murray, and Redman.
Missing from the new album will be the trademark cutting of DJ Scratch.
Although a member of the group for 20 years, Scratch alleged in an exclusive June interview with AllHipHop.com that his departure was due to a financial/ethical dispute with Erick Sermon.
The first single for the project is the Raekwon assisted “Puttin’ Work In.”

Gillie Out Of Beanie Sigel's 'Brotherly Love Concert'

Contrary to earlier reports, Philadelphia rapper Gillie Da Kid will not be taking part in an upcoming “Brotherly Love Concert” being organized by Beanie Sigel and Nike’s ACG Store.
Gillie Da Kid, Beanie Sigel and a host of upcoming rappers from Philadelphia have publicly feuded over the past few years by trading insults on mixtapes, the radio and the Internet.
Representatives for Gillie Da Kid have confirmed with AllHipHop.com that a scheduling conflict will prevent the rapper from attending the concert, which is scheduled to take place December 11.
“Gillie is set to leave to Puerto Rico to begin filming the movie King of The Avenue with Ving Rhames on December 9, 2008. Gillie's role in the movie with Ving Rhames is the leading role in the film,” a rep for the rapper revealed to AllHipHop.com.
King of The Avenue is being directed by Ryan Combs and centers on a young drug dealer, who sells his soul to the devil in order to become the #1 pusher on the block.
Despite the scheduling conflict, Gillie Da Kid is also doing his part to ensure peace in Philadelphia by officially ending his long standing feud with platinum rapper Cassidy.
“A public ‘burying of the hatchet’ is supposed to occur this Sunday (December 7),” AllHipHop.com has confirmed. “Gillie and Cassidy are both scheduled to put aside all of their past differences and come together and perform together at Transit Nightclub.”
Sigel’s free “Brotherly Love Concert” featuring Freeway, Reed Dollas, Joey Jahad and E-Ness will continue as planned December 11 at the Fillmore on South Street, starting at 5:00 pm.

Styles P Dismisses The Word "Swagger"

If you listened to any radio-friendly rappers this year, chances are you were bombarded with the phrase “swagger.” In 2008, artists big and small were using it to bolster their rapping style or to describe their keen fashion sense. A rapper without swagger was a rapper with no appeal. With that said, Styles P [click to read] wasn’t exactly fond of the trendy word heard everywhere.
“What did I hate about ‘08? The abuse of the fucking word ‘swagger,’" Styles P confessed to XXLmag.com. Amazed by the use of the slang term, he continued, “I don’t fucking know when so many people starting using this word… Jesus Christ! Just let it go a little bit. Lean off of it a little bit.”
To be clear, Styles P made sure he wasn’t stepping on anyone toes by stating, “I mean, ain’t nothing wrong with having style, swag and all of that.” However, SP did give his own opinion on how he perceives the trend, which highlights a rappers appearance more than their skill on the mic. “I think all the guys are starting to be so focused on the look and the way they are so much, that it almost make them like girls.”

Alchemist And Oh No Plan Gang Green Album

The current economic downturn has artists rethinking their budgets, while others are seeing their projects delayed until 2009. But, to hear Alchemist tell it, this could be exactly what the game needs.
"With this era in rap, where SoundScan is all horrible, it’s like, 'What’s going on?'" Al tells HipHopDX. "Being able to just do this with Oh No out of thin air makes me feel like we’re past that hump. We didn’t make records with radio in mind; it was just fun and creative. I’m seeing the power, because we don’t have to wait to get commissioned every time."
The pair met in LA after Oh No and Roc C opened up for a show that Alchemist and Evidence [click to read] were headlining. They exchanged beats and rhymes online, and rechristened themselves as Gang Green, due to their mutual love for a certain form of "herbal refreshment" enjoyed by many artists. Al and Oh No have already finished the album, which features them alternating between rapping and producing for each other. Given the fact that Oh No is Madlib's younger brother, Alchemist says he and Oh drew a different kind of inspiration from the critically acclaimed collaboration Champion Sound.
"We were definitely inspired by [Dilla and Madlib]--not so much musically, but the way they collaborated from not really knowing each other like that at first," Al adds. "The fact that me and Oh didn’t really know each other as well gave us that same kind of mutual respect from a distance. They’re the big brothers to us, and to even be considered on that level of collaboration is great to me."
Alchemist plans to release his solo project, Chemical Warfare, on Koch in January of 2009. The collaborative album with Oh No is expected to drop shortly thereafter. I’m gonna be flooding y'all, and you know I’m built for it,” he said in a recent YouTube video clip. Freeway’s “Month of Madness” comes in preparation for his third solo album Freedom of Speech, which is tentatively scheduled for release next year.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Reunite for "UNI 5" Concert
On Sunday night, all five original members of rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony came together to perform at Los Angeles' sold out Club Nokia. The entire group hadn’t performed together in over a decade, but has finally set aside their differences to present fans with the Uni 5 experience.
“Bone Thugs-N-Harmony coming together for the Uni 5 album is a monumental movement for Hip Hop and family life in general,” group members said. “It shows that any obstacle can be overcome, and unity, love, and harmony are the best remedies; hence, Uni 5. The Bone legacy is here to stay.”
Consisting of members Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone, the newly reunited group performed hits from the past 15 years including “1st of Tha Month,” “I Tried,” [click to read] and the Grammy-Award winning “Tha Crossroads.”
The group experienced problems back in 2000 when member Flesh-n-Bone was sentenced to eleven years in prison, and then again a few years later when infighting led to the ousting of Bizzy Bone. The remaining three members released an album titled Strength & Loyalty [click to read] just last year.
“We are just like any real family,” stated Krayzie Bone. “We fight and have disagreements, but at the end of the day, we are brothers, from our skin down to our 'bones.' Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will be a family, unit, team, and group always.”

UK Radio Deejay Suspended After Playing "Arab Money"

Hip Hop music has continually taken heat for various reasons; malicious content, obscene portrayal of life, or the exploitation of sex and drugs. With that said, it has seldom been the case for religion to become the hot bed of discussion, at least on American soil. The same can’t be said for music overseas, where the radio play of Busta Rhymes’ new single “Arab Money” [click to listen] has gotten one UK deejay in a bit of trouble.
Galaxy FM’s Steve Sutherland, winner of the 2002 and 2006 MOBO Award for "Best UK DJ," has been suspended after playing “Arab Money” this past weekend. Global Radio, a private company that owns Galaxy FM, received several complaints concerning the content of “Arab Money,” which subsequently led to the suspension of Sutherland. The producer for Sutherland’s show, which airs in Birmingham, Manchester, Yorkshire, and also Scotland, has been suspended as well.
Galaxy FM has since apologized to their listeners through a statement on their website. “Galaxy would like to apologize to all our listeners for the airing of this song. It was never Galaxy’s intent to offend its listeners and never will be.” It continues, “A full internal investigation has now commenced. Galaxy would like to apologize for any offense however unintentionally caused.”

Details On Soundtrack For 'Notorious'
The track listing for the movie 'Notorious' has been revealed. The movie, which is a biopic on the late, great Notorious BIG, is scheduled for release next month, January 16th. The soundtrack will arrive a few days earlier on the 13th.
With the obvious tracks by BIG, the album will feature some contributions by Jay-Z, Jadakiss and Faith Evans. Jada will finally be releasing the long awaited "Letter To BIG", that has been talked about for so long. The song was originally supposed to be on his upcoming album "The Last Kiss", but filmmakers thought it would be perfect for this soundtrack instead.
Also in a twist, Biggie's son, Christopher "CJ" Wallace Jr. will be on the album. CJ will be performing on a new version of "One More Chance." It's being labeled as "a duet" by Bad Boy. CJ's mom, Faith Evans, sings on a remix of the song, also featured on the album.

Q Da Kid Explains History, TAG Records Endorsements

Q Da Kid has made history, being the first artist signed to Procter & Gamble's TAG Records [click to read], a label that's being guided by the expertise of Jermaine Dupri [click to read].
Beyond just making history, the Brooklyn emcee has a history of his own, not often discussed in the chatter about corporate labels. Monday afternoon, Q told HipHopDX, "I was signed to Violator a couple of years ago, [within a] a group called The Franchise. It included me, Red Cafe and Gravy. Red Cafe is from Konvict Muzik, and Gravy's playing Biggie Smalls in [Notorious]."
In a group with such would-be talent, it's surprising The Franchise did not go further. "It just didn't work. We was on numerous mixtapes, from Kay Slay, to Whoo Kid, who was our deejay at the time, [DJ] Clue. We was grindin' hard, crazy in the streets. I was the first one to leave the group, and went out on my own. I moved to Miami. When I moved to Miami, that's when I met up with [DJ] Khaled, [DJ] Irie; I did the crazy club thing in Miami, and I used to always see JD coming back and forth. Dallas Austin flew me to Atlanta to do the Drumline Soundtrack, and I met JD out there during the process."
That relationship led to the TAG deal. However, given the major backing Q has, he may be in a greater position than most debuting artists with bringing attention back to New York. He recognizes the accountability that comes with that though. "Being that I'm from Brooklyn, a lot of the great emcees came from [here]. So there's a lot of pressure at the end of the day. People expect a lot 'cause a lot of great music came from here," Q says, citing Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z [click to read], Lil Kim and Shyne. "I gotta make sure my music is correct, and it represents Brooklyn and Hip Hop as a whole. That's what I'm trying to do." It's bigger than New York to Q. "I'm not trying to be a regional artist. I'm trying to be an artist that can go to Africa or China and perform."
Part of Q's Hip Hop side may come from working with No I.D., whose produced hits for Common and Jay-Z as well as having worked alongside JD and Kanye West. "A lot of people don't realize he made 'On A Mission,' the single," admits Q Da Kid of his first single, presently available on iTunes. "Me and No I.D. have a relationship from back in the days; I've known [him] from like 2002. Me and him is like family. We sit down and conversate about the records and how Hip Hop is playing out right now, how the whole music thing is doin' right now. He said, 'I don't want you to have nothing like nobody else has right now; I want you to have your own sound.' And you can hear that on 'On A Mission,' it's totally different from anything that's out now."
"On A Mission" has gone on to become this season's theme song for The Denver Nuggets. Q just returned from the Mile High City performing the regional hit. He says the effort has also garnered him an Under Armour campaign to boot.
With ad campaigns coming in quickly for the relatively new face in the mainstream, some skeptics point to Q's backing, in a culture that saw KRS-One and LL Cool J gain endorsements well into their career stardom. Q speaks to his critics in saying, "At the end of the day, it's not like we do it in a corny way. When you see the TAG commercial, [there isn't] anything about body spray. We tried to keep it as urban as we could. We made it look like it was an [emcee] battle, where you see the TAG [mention] at the end. It's not like we incorporate it on some stuff."
Owning his own studio, and often mixing his own records, the hustler in Q adds that his present commercial spots and endorsements only add to his artistry. "Everybody that sees that TAG commercial is like, 'Yo, that's an incredible commercial right there.' That commercial was hard. When they hear me on radio doing freestyles or whatever, they be like, 'Nah, dude can really rap.'"
With his debut album on the way for 2009, Q told DX before heading onto more meetings, "I should be tired, but hey, I can't sleep now. I gotta keep going."

Sugarhill Gang Sues For Uncollected Royalties
Founding members of the Sugarhill Gang Michael "Wonder Mike" Wright and Guy "Master Gee" O'Brien, have filed a lawsuit against their former manager and Sugarhill Publishing.
Wonder Mike and Master Gee have charged Sylvia Robinson, the estate of her late husband Joey Robinson Sr. and members of Sugarhill Publishing, in regards to millions of dollars in uncollected royalties for “Rapper’s Delight," which is considered by some to be the first rap song ever.
Wonder Mike and Master Gee still perform the song, and because the track has been sampled so frequently, they want compensation. They also claim Robinson lied to them about their original contract back in the late '70’s.
Joey Robinson Jr. has recently denied the statements and claims the platinum rappers are "encroaching on his trademarks", according to a report in the New York Daily News. Referring to the duo’s lip-synching performances, Robinson tells the newspaper, "It's really a sham to confuse the public...there was no lip-synching [back in the late 70s]!"
Robinson Sr. and his wife, who also produced the records, founded Sugar Hill Records in 1974 and brought together the original group members Wright, O'Brien and pal Henry "Big Bank Hank" Jackson in the late 1970's. However, Robinson Jr., Warren Moore and Derek Smalls have performed the classic song before under the Sugarhill Gang name.

Raekwon Talks New Mixtape, Aftermath Rumors and Cuban Linx 2

While his Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 album doesn't drop until March of '09, Raekwon says he has a few projects lined up in the meantime. While out on business in LA, Rae talked with LA Weekly about how he plans to hold down a demanding fan base for the next few months.
"We’re definitely making a Cuban Link bonus DVD for everyone to check out that’s worth a look," The Chef says. "At the same time, we’re doing a book called the Purple Book, which is the memoirs of everything that I’ve been through in this game and what the significance of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is."
Raekwon added that a mixtape entitled "Burning Bags" will be dropping shortly, possibly as a free Internet release. Rae also explained why he thinks the year-long delay of the album is worth the wait.
"The RZA, the legendary J Dilla, Dr Dre. and just those three elements there, that’s really dangerous, the heat is crazy," Raekwon says. "It’s an underground record. I kept each producer in the zone. You’d never know that the record had all these different producers if I didn’t tell you, because they came with gritty beats to make a gritty album. We came with a couple energy boosters to get the stadiums jumping but for the most part, it’s the same type of storytelling."
Raekwon plans to release Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 on his own Ice Water Inc. label, aborting plans of what many hoped would be a Hip Hop fans dream collaboration.
"Well, me and the label, we couldn’t come to the right terms," Rae says of his hopes to join Aftermath Entertainment. "Dre had a lot of projects he was working on and you know me, knowing how important OB4CL2 was, I needed him next to me the way I wanted...but we kept a mutual respect and friendship. We both big fans of each [other], and it wasn’t a big thing. Dre is somebody who’s very busy and who works hard like me."

Today, ?uestlove reached out to fans via his own blog to explain what happened and give a more detailed look at his feelings about the incident.

"In short we escaped what I can only call a tragic bus crash while on our way to open for kanye in paris. That white van basically missed an open for an exit and thought he could last minute side swipe us/race us to get off. and just wound up knocking us off this road. Kinda strange how the mind works because the inside of the bus is tinted and covered with curtains. so despite the fact we flipped over i still thought it was just a fender bender for i had no reference point of direction."
The Roots are still on tour through Europe. Tonight, they'll be in Stockholm. They're on tour through December 9, where they will make their final stop in Amsterdam. The dates and venues can be found below.

Ludacris Talks T.I. Collaboration, Clarifies DJ Premier Comment

With Ludacris’ new album Theater of the Mind [click to read] out in stores now, fans will be welcomed by a few firsts from the southern rapper; a collaboration with T.I., and a production credit from DJ Premier. Speaking with Rhapsody.com [click to read], Luda delved into the topics of working with T.I., chopping it up with Premier, and whether or not he was the “first southern rapper with a Primo beat.”
Despite beginning their respective careers in Atlanta, Ludacris and T.I. had never worked together on an album until this year, which also marks the release of each rapper's sixth album. With the supposed “beef” behind them, the two ATL lyricists got down to what it is all about: the music.
"We see each other in passing all the time," Ludacris explained. "Once we got in the actual work, we were both just two focused individuals. We knocked out ["Wish You Would" and "On Top of the World"] quick. You never know, there might be some more stuff to come. Maybe we can complete the spectrum and just do more work together and have more than one type of song out there. But I feel like the ones we’ve done are solid."
Along with T.I., Ludacris shares the stage on Theater of the Mind with other notable rappers, such as Jay-Z, Nas, and Common. With that said, it’s been the DJ Premier-produced "MVP" [click to listen] that has many Hip Hop heads salivating for more. Luda explained how that collaboration went down, saying, "I was in Toronto, and I had a lot of off-time from shooting the movie Max Payne. Premier came up to Toronto and we knocked that thing smooth out. We came up with three different beats. That was the one I loved the most. I recorded to it and it was history from there. I loved working with DJ Premier."
After describing "MVP" as a song that takes people to a place where they "first fell in love with Hip Hop music," the interviewer had some bad news for Ludacris, stating that it was in fact Devin The Dude who had DJ Premier produce "Doobie Ashtray" on his 2002 release Just Tryin' ta Live. With this news, Luda gave props to the Houston rapper.
"Oh, shit," Ludacris said. "I’m a Devin The Dude fan, too. I have heard 'Doobie Ashtray' and that’s crazy because I love that song. Now that you say that, it makes me realize [it]. But I never knew Premier did it. Well then, dammit, there you have it. I’m the second Southern artist to get a DJ Premier joint."

With a new freestyle entitled "I'm Having A Relapse" [click to listen] hitting the web earlier this month, Eminem’s new project was rumored to be dropping this fourth quarter [click to read], but Mr. Iovine explained, “We only tried to put him [Eminem] out this year to replace Dr. Dre, but we got into a quagmire. Eminem was always coming next year.”
He elaborated, “We lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem's album. Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything.”
Fans concerned about losing Dre’s highly anticipated album, Detox, entirely can rest assure that it is still on the way. Iovine said, “Dre's going back in January. He'll be finished with Eminem by then, and he'll finish his album.”
Although Mr. Iovine gave hope that the titanic projects are indeed set to be released next year, no specific dates or background information was revealed.

Wu-Tang and Fila Reunite for New Weathertech Boot

Revered Staten Island, NY rap collective Wu-Tang Clan is giving shoppers another item to add to their Christmas list with its new Wu-Tang Weathertech boot.
The footwear is the latest product to emerge from Wu-Tang Brand, Ltd's alliance with popular sportswear brand Fila. The two companies first collaborated in 2007 with the release of the C.R.E.A.M. shoe, a special limited edition of Fila's classic original tennis shoe that was available in three colors and developed exclusively for New York City's Training Camp sneaker boutique.
Although the Weathertech boot marks Wu-Tang's second footwear venture with Fila, the group's business partner Oliver "Power" Grant revealed that Wu-Tang's relationship with Fila goes back to the collective's beginnings.
"The partnership with Fila began during our early days and our latest product represents the ongoing mutual respect we have for the brand today," the executive said via a statement.
Inspired by the classic Fila boot silhouette, the Wu-Tang Weathertech boot will feature an oiled suede upper, molded rubberized vamp, d-ring lacing system and padded ankle collars. The side and heel tab of the winter weather boot will include the Wu-Tang Clan's insignia as well as signature Wu-Tang yellow highlights.

Rappers Kanye West, Chuck D and Chali 2na are among an eclectic group of entertainers and artists featured on The Spirit of Apollo, a new album from North America/South America (N.A.S.A.).
Created by producer Sam "Squeak E Clean" Spiegel and Brazilian turntablist Ze "DJ Zegon" Gonzales, N.A.S.A. is geared toward bringing entertainers from the East and West Coast together through music and art.
Artists featured on The Spirit of Apollo include Kool Keith, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, KRS-One, Method Man, George Clinton and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who appears with Karen O and Fatlip on a track titled “Strange Enough.“
Despite having a slew of guests on the album, Spiegel maintains the collaborations came naturally, as he credits the music with dictating who would eventually be featured on certain songs.
“We never said, ‘let’s make a track for this person,’” Spiegel told AllHipHop.com. “We’d usually make something we liked, and then as we were starting to write the song, it would tend to go in a direction that we’d be like, ‘this sounds like George Clinton,’ or ‘this sounds like Method Man.’ We would start to feel the song out, and feel the artist through the song as we did it. Basically, we’d sit around as we were making these tracks and say the nuttiest combination of names, like our dream of who we could get on the song. It’s crazy, a lot of times they actually happened.”
The Spirit of Apollo, which features the Chuck D-assisted single “Money,” is part of a series of projects coinciding with the album’s release.
Among the ventures is a full-length behind the scenes documentary on the making of The Spirit of Apollo.
Highlights also include a fun look at reggae superstar Sizzla’s compound in Jamaica, Method Man performing magic tricks and a glimpse at Clinton’s recording session.
In addition to the documentary, N.AS.A. has recruited artists such as Shepard Fairey, Sage Vaughn, Mark Gonzalez, Barry McGee, The Date Farmers, Splunny and Marcel Dzama to bring images from their original artwork to life via animated music videos for songs off The Spirit of Apollo.
Artwork from the artists will be used for the album’s cover art and packaging.
The video for “Money” is scheduled to be released in December.

“We never said, ‘let’s make a track for this person,’” Spiegel told AllHipHop.com. “We’d usually make something we liked, and then as we were starting to write the song, it would tend to go in a direction that we’d be like, ‘this sounds like George Clinton,’ or ‘this sounds like Method Man.’ We would start to feel the song out, and feel the artist through the song as we did it. Basically, we’d sit around as we were making these tracks and say the nuttiest combination of names, like our dream of who we could get on the song. It’s crazy, a lot of times they actually happened.”
The Spirit of Apollo, which features the Chuck D-assisted single “Money,” is part of a series of projects coinciding with the album’s release.
Among the ventures is a full-length behind the scenes documentary on the making of The Spirit of Apollo.
Highlights also include a fun look at reggae superstar Sizzla’s compound in Jamaica, Method Man performing magic tricks and a glimpse at Clinton’s recording session.
In addition to the documentary, N.AS.A. has recruited artists such as Shepard Fairey, Sage Vaughn, Mark Gonzalez, Barry McGee, The Date Farmers, Splunny and Marcel Dzama to bring images from their original artwork to life via animated music videos for songs off The Spirit of Apollo.
Artwork from the artists will be used for the album’s cover art and packaging.
The video for “Money” is scheduled to be released in December.
N.A.S.A’s The Spirit of Apollo is slated to hit stores February 17, 2009.

Legendary rap stars Slick Rick and Whodini will hit the stage for the preservation of Hip-Hop culture as they help kick off the Classic Hip-Hop concert series.
The event, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 22) at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, is the brainchild of Cold Crush Brothers affiliate Adrian "Easy AD" Harris.
The music pioneer, along with Anthony "A-tone the Hip-Hop Historian" Hovington, teamed up with Donerson Research Group, Inc. CEO Haywood Donerson, III, to present the concert as a vehicle to promote the history, culture and art of Hip-Hop.
Other performers slated to appear include rap icon Kool Mo Dee as well as Roxanne Shante and Harris’ Cold Crush Brothers group mate DJ Tony Tone.
Proceeds from the Classic Hip-Hop concert series will go towards establishing a permanent museum exhibit on Hip-Hop that will feature items and artifacts from the culture’s early days.
The event, a joint venture between Harris and Hovington’s Classic Hip-Hop LLC and Donerson Research Group, Inc., is the latest project from Classic Hip-Hop.
The company, founded in 2005, is dedicated towards preserving and promoting the positive aspects of Hip-Hop culture.
Those looking for a deeper understanding of Hip-Hop can get an up-close look at those who helped paved the way for its standing as a worldwide phenomenon, according to Harris, who will serve as host for Saturday's concert.
"We want people to come out, bring their sons and daughters to experience innovative Hip-Hop music from Classic Hip-Hop artists,” the businessman told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Hip-Hop has come a long way and with this concert series and exhibit opening, we will help bring the culture full circle. We are not just putting on a concert but, raising the funds and awareness to bring this exhibit to life for generations to come."
In addition to the performers, international radio personality Donnie Simpson will be on hand for the show to donate his personal jacket worn in the movie Krush Groove.
The Washington DC concert will be followed by 10 shows in nine cities across the country.

Nas, will.I.am, The Roots Record With Nat King Cole

The smooth sound of Nat King Cole will cross paths with Hip-Hop's edgy vibe via a new tribute album to the pioneering late crooner.
The release, titled Re: Generations, will feature Cole singing alongside entertainers and producers such as Nas, Cee-Lo Green, Brazilian Girls, the Roots, Cut Chemist, Just Blaze, TV On The Radio and will i. am, who joins Natalie Cole for the song “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”
Working with the Black Eyed Peas frontman proved to be a productive experience for the songstress, who expressed her satisfaction with the finished product.
"I just love, love, love the mix that will.i.am put on 'Straighten Up and Fly Right,’” Natalie Cole told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “It's so very cool and Dad would get quite the kick from this. What a great feeling it was to have worked with both will and Dad at the same time! It doesn't get much better and this entire album is so amazing."
Executive produced by Natalie Cole’s sister Carole, Re: Generations was created as vehicle to “musically and visually bridge the so-called generation gap and hopefully create mutual admiration and respect between teens, parents and grands of every culture.”
With the diverse group of talent working on the album, the King Cole Partners & Productions CEO is convinced her father would’ve appreciated the effort.
"As the curators of our father's music, image and likeness, my sisters and I strive to keep Dad in the mix and as innovative as he was back in the day,” Carole Cole stated. “We have no doubts that if Nat were here today, he would embrace all of the artists on this record as well as the ones we were unable to get next to. He would want to produce them and encourage them to leave their own indelible mark on the cultural landscape. And as a bona fide music lover, Dad would buy their music and be a loyal fan."
In addition to the musicians, Re: Generations will involve several visual artists from Los Angeles who will create custom artwork for the Capitol/EMI album using Cole's music, style and cultural influence as inspiration.
"Creating artwork for this project, Re: Generations, is quite an honor," said international muralist/graffiti artist Man One, who created an original mural in honor of the project with assistance from two students from The HeArt Project, a local mentoring program.
Other artists contributing Cole-inspired art to Re: Generations include Ritzy Periwinkle, and Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca and Cole’s own grandson Sage, who created the album’s cover art.
Musically, the project afforded Cut Chemist the chance to work with someone he described as “an incredible vocalist."
"Nat King Cole's voice sounds great with any and every style of music,” the producer said. “I've never had this much fun doing a remix before. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with the best."

MC BREED PASSES AWAY

MC Breed, a legendary Atlanta/Flint, Michigan based rapper, died today (November 22), according to a source with AllHipHop.com.
While details are still being confirmed, several sources told AllHipHop.com that the rapper died early this morning.
“He’s no longer with us,” said a tearful friend, who shall remain anonymous. “We are in the process of putting together a benefit concert, hopefully at Saint Andrews to raise money for a funeral,” the source told AllHipHop.com.
MC Breed, born Eric Breed, was a 15-year-veteran who was born in Flint Michigan.
He worked with a number of rappers, including Too $hort and Tupac Shakur.
On September 5, Breed was admitted to an Atlanta area hospital and placed on life support, after he collapsed when his kidneys failed, during a game of pickup basketball.
His condition began to improve and he was taken off of life support a few days later.

DJ Qbert Launches Qbert Skratch University

Aspiring DJs will receive a helping hand in perfecting their craft, courtesy of legendary turntablist DJ Qbert.
The entertainer has joined forces with Napa, California-based ArtistsWorks, Inc. to create Qbert Skratch University, an online video learning site scheduled to launch in early 2009.
Through a series of progressive videos, Qbert will teach various levels of scratching techniques to students that range from basic to exotic to beat juggling.
With the university, Qbert sees unlimited potential in reaching newcomers who want to become an established DJ as well as veteran turntablists looking to take their skills to the next level.
"It's cool that skratching has so many fans around the world and we can all be in one place now and learn from each other no matter where we live," said Qbert, who will make assignments to students when necessary. "One day in the future, we'll be able to instantly beam ourselves to any location in the world. But for now, the easiest way I can connect with other skratchers around the globe is through the QSU!"
Participants will be able to post videos on the University’s website as Qbert evaluates and responds to each video by offering personal guidance and suggestions via a response video or written text assessment.
Also, students can work at their own pace and move around the instructional videos.
The online school is the latest accomplishment for Qbert, who has been featured in the critically acclaimed documentaries Scratch and Hang the DJ.
In addition to providing a continuous block of instruction, the turntablist will post videos of competitions as well as his experiences on the road.

President Bush Issues Pardon For Rapper John Forte

President George W. Bush has pardoned rapper John Forte, an affiliate of the Fugees, who has been serving prison time for smuggling drugs, sources told AllHipHop.com.
Forte was one of 14 persons that Bush has pardoned or granted commuted prison sentences.
This wave of White House pardons is Bush's latest, as he has less than two months in his presidency. A pardon cannot be overruled.
Forte was arrested at Newark International Airport in 2000 and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to distribute. Police caught him accepting a briefcase with about $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine in it.
Forte was hit with a 14-year sentence in a federal penitentiary under minimum sentencing laws even though it was his first offense and he was a non-violent offender. He began his bid in jail in 2001 and has fought the laws vehemently.
Through the ordeal, he maintained his innocence and turned down a plea deal.
John Forte has released two albums, Poly Sci and I, John.
John found an ally in legendary singer Carly Simon and her son Ben Taylor, both close friends. Forte lived at Simon's estate in Martha's Vineyard for about six weeks in 1999 and even spent the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with the family. Simon and Taylor have lobbied on Forte’s behalf since he was incarcerated.
Much speculation has been made of others Bush may opt to pardon. Most of these involved those that government employees that may have unjustly interrogated suspected terrorists in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.
A pardon of these cases would severely impede president elect Barack Obama from investigating such crimes.

Grand Hustle, Shawty Lo Camp Rumble At Dirty Awards

Radio One's fourth annual Dirty Awards ended abruptly this evening when two separate altercations erupted reportedly between rapper Shawty Lo and members of the Grand Hustle camp tonight (November 24).
An eye witness told AllHipHop.com that the tension between the two crews mounted during Shawty Lo's performance, which included a diss version of Grand Hustle artist Yung LA's song "Ain't I."
As Lo performed his version with a chorus "Don't I," an audience member identified by an eyewitness as Capitol recording artist Alfamega, allegedly threw a chair onto the stage.
At that point, witnesses say another artist signed to the T.I.-helmed label stormed the stage, at which point authorities proceeded to break a fight.
T.I. himself took the stage shortly after the fight to accept an award following, a reported private conversation with Shawty-Lo, in which the Grammy Award-winning rapper/actor allegedly insisted once again, that the two end their long-running beef.
He proceeded to denounce the violence and negativity and assured the Dirty Awards audience that he did not condone the fighting.
Shortly thereafter, however, a second fight broke out as T.I. performed his verse from "Ain't I," allegedly substituting some lyrics with verbal jabs at Shawty Lo, with whom he has had an unpleasant relationship throughout the year.
Towards the end of the performance, another member of the Grand Hustle camp allegedly jumped off stage and assaulted a man witnesses said was Shawty Lo's brother.
Police officers then halted the awards show, using pepper spray to end the fight.
While the Dirty Awards audience was immediately evacuated, witnesses say other altercations may have occurred outside of the event.
