Beat Cartel Presents: Destination Hip Hop

Beat Cartel Presents: Destination Hip Hop

Hip Hop producers release their first mixtape

Los Angeles, CA – October 27, 2009 – Beat Cartel, an up-and-coming Hip Hop production company, releases their first mixtape album, Destination Hip Hop, featuring artists from all over the world.

Destination Hip Hop introduces Beat Cartel’s style to the entire world, as they offer up their passport to hip hop with tracks by artists from Brooklyn, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, France and Bolivia to name a few.

Beat Cartel reached out to artists using MySpace, Facebook and other social networking websites, to find only the most talented of people who were hungry to be heard. Each artist picked a track produced solely by the Beat Cartel to infuse their style with Beat Cartel’s hypnotic beats.

The album features 16 tracks, with original and sampled beats showcasing their talents in producing, scratching, and mixing. Destination Hip Hop features artists such as: Billy Danze of M.O.P., Icadon, and Randam Luck; as well as several other unsigned artists.

“If this was fifteen or twenty years ago, we wouldn’t have been able to put this album together,” said E-NYS of Beat Cartel. “Thanks to technology, I was able to make a beat, send it to Job in New York, and have an artist record it in Zimbabwe, send it back to me and JOB to edit and mix, and then be able to put it out to the world.”

“Just by clicking a button, tens of thousands of people can hear these great lyricists as well as our music,” said E-NYS.

Jay-Z Questions Eminem's Absence From MTV's "Hottest In The Game" List

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Jay-Z has shared his reaction to MTV's "Hottest MC's In The Game" listing him at number one and questioned why Grammy-winning rapper Eminem lost out to artists including Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy.

According to Hov, Em should have been considered within the Top 10 especially due to his platinum-selling Relapse album.

"MTV, Thanx for this nod of appreciation," he wrote in a statement. "Although I don't strive to be 'hot' for any particular year, I thank you for the acknowledgment. My whole goal is to be recognized as the best ever. I created the term 'best rapper alive' as a sign of respect to my fallen comrades (Biggie and Tupac). I believe I've allowed a significant grace period, and I believe I would not be respecting myself if being the absolute best was not my goal, and that's why I continue to push myself until exhaustion ... salute. Sidebar: Kanye moment if I may ... Eminem?!?! I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don't thoroughly explain his omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best 'posse' cut of the year . (*Hands mic back to Taylor Swift ... and nobody was harmed, I apologize in advance.)" (Rap Radar)

MTV has issued a response to the public's reaction toward Em's absence from the list.

Eminem's ranking was one of the most discussed topics at the Roundtable. His hotly anticipated return to hip-hop after a long absence drove first week sales of over 600,000 - the highest first-week of the year so far. He granted a handful of select interviews here and abroad, and was part of a massive moment with Sacha Baron Cohen at the MTV Movie Awards. But then Em retreated to the lab, where he spent the summer crafting Relapse 2. From June to September, Em all-but took himself out of the public eye, while other MCs generated week-to-week heat with mixtapes, guest appearances, performances and Web activity. (M Live)

Rappers like Maino initially questioned how certain rappers could make the cut who have not released music as of late.

"Some of these people ain't had a record in years," Maino said while reviewing the list. "Is it based off record sales? Is it based off presence in the game? You got n*ggas on here that can't even rap. I don't claim to be this or that, I don't claim to be this nice or that nice, I'm just one of the realest n*ggas in the world -- Two straight summers I held down and there's a couple of these n*ggas that ain't had a summer song since 90-something. How you on the list of hottest in the game today, some of them should be hottest in the game overall or past years, no disrespect to some of them on the list but you got legends that did what they did and paved the way for me but at the same time, if you not relevant today -- then how are you on 'The Hottest MC's In The Game' list? They almost try to paint the perception of if you're not on the list, you're not hot." (This Is 50)

50 Cent expressed his discontent with the annual list in an interview around 2007.

"I didn't see [the list] but they asked me about it," Fif said in an interview with DJ Clue. "Well you know, these c*ck suckers -- it's terrible man, it's almost impossible for you to maintain a position without just being a total idiot. God made all of us, so he knows to give me special attention -- [MTV personality] Sway should just jump in front of a bus on his way up here man for doing that -- he's a meathead. They're not using their brains anymore, man. There's a difference between a guy that has eight records and a guy whose built consistency." (Power 105)

Papoose Promises Debut Album In 2010, "I'm Not Sitting Around & Crying About These Labels"

Written by Cyrus Langhorne
New York rapper Papoose has decided to keep fans waiting for his long-awaited debut album, The Nacirema Dream, by postponing its release until next year.

According to Papoose, he is no longer going place blame on his record label for not releasing his first retail solo project.

"I just been taking care of every day life," Pap explained in an interview. "I've been putting in that work, laying in the cut, making the right decisions...I'm coming with my album, The Nacirema Dream next year. I'm not sitting around like these n*ggas is doing and crying about these labels and all that. I got a master plan I'm about to put into effect next year, so n*ggas is gonna really see how it's gonna go down with my album. You like it or love it, if you f*ck with me, cop it. And to keep it real with you, the feedback I get from the haters, the people that don't like me, the only thing they say is 'Yo, the n*gga ain't dropped the album yet.' So what they gonna say when I drop it, man? So next year, the album coming. I've been working." (Hip Hop Beef)

Pap recently confirmed his debut album was still on deck despite multiple delays.

"Right now my aim is bigger," Pap said in an interview. "What I got in the works right now is going to shake the ground when it drops. What I'm about to do I feel like nobody is doing right now. I really don't give too much details about it right now, but the announcement will be made real soon. I'm about to make a real power move. I'm coming for you n*ggas, so I hope you're prepared for it. The Nacirema Dream album is coming properly. The fans are going to be proud. I hear the fans complaining, they're always saying, 'Yo, when you going to drop the album?' But I appreciate you waiting for me man. The fans know I'm not an idiot and everything is strategic so that announcement is coming real soon... A lot of people go to Koch and Babygrande and all that, but they're not doing it how I'm about to do it. When I make this move they're going to respect it." (Hip Hop DX)

The rapper's close ties with DJ Kay Slay helped him land a record deal around 2006.

After guest appearing on a few tracks in 2006, including the remix of Busta Rhyme's Top 20 pop-charting single "Touch It," he finally signed a $1.5 million contract with Jive Records in August 2006. His debut album, The Nacirema Dream, was practically already finished, but in the meantime, he held over fans with The Best of Papoose: The Mixtape, a succinct synopsis of his prolific mixtape run. (All Music)

He is also married to incarcerated rapper Remy Ma.

"Remy, she's maintaining and she's getting through it," Pap explained in an interview with Jenny Boom Boom over the summer. "I visit her every other day at this point and kids want autographs from both of us. In the beginning I was there everyday, but I got a lot of things to maintain out here so I'm there every other day. Yup [we're married.]...[The wedding] was the best it could possibly be. It's something that I'm proud of and we're gonna stick by each other...Her son is good money, he's maintaining. He goes to see her from time to time...We're just teaching him the right things, letting him know his mother is gonna be out here soon...Dudes really don't hold females down when it comes to these situations. Real people do real things, I do it from the heart." (Jenny Boom Boom TV)

Common Readies "The Believer" W/ No I.D. & Kanye West, "I'm Always Gonna Offer Something New & Fresh"

Written by Cyrus Langhorne
Grammy-winning rapper Common has linked with No I.D. and Kanye West to help make his upcoming album, The Believer, provide fans with a more Chicago feel and follow-up 2008's Universal Mind Control.

The rapper-turned-actor's ninth LP will provide fans with a return to his raw hip-hop roots.

"For Believer, it was creating raw music, raw hip-hop," he said in an interview. "I just wanted to create good hip-hop music. When I create albums, they develop as I go along, 'cause I have different thoughts and visions. And then as you create the music, it takes its own personality and spirit to it. But the beginning of it is raw hip-hop, it's just soulful...Twilite Tone and No I.D., they produced my first three albums and they were the first producers I worked with. And Kanye is an extension of them. Kanye always says No I.D. is his mentor. That's how I met Kanye, through No I.D. So for me to have these three working on my album is going home again. But I'm always gonna offer something new and fresh." (MTV)

His upcoming project will also mark his return to Ye, the producer most responsible for 2005's Be and 2007's Finding Forever.

Be, a much tighter album that was produced primarily by Kanye West, followed in May 2005, netting four Grammy nominations. West remained on board for both Finding Forever (2007) and the lighter Universal Mind Control (2008), though the Neptunes dominated the latter. (All Music)

Common previously spoke with SOHH about not putting down the microphone despite having nearly two decades of music to his name.

"God willing, you'll get albums nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen," he laughingly promised last fall. "I feel like a jazz musician in many ways and I wanna keep creating music. I feel like I want to be doing shows when I'm sixty something." (SOHH)

Aside from his own music, the rapper recently spoke on President Barack Obama's impact on the rap game.

"I also don't find as much gangsta talk," Common explained in an interview. "You see the whole chain-shining-and-rim era is gone. That's like super-played out. Just to have that, I think, is part of the Obama effect...So you find these artists that are having that independent thinking of being able to go out and create for themselves." (Gawker)

A release date for The Believer has not yet been confirmed.

Ghostface Killah & Raheem Devaughn Hint At Duet LP, "We Real Close To Finalizing"

Written by Cyrus Langhorne
R&B singer Raheem Devaughn has hinted that he will re-link with recent collaborator Ghostface Killah to record a full length duet album.

While keeping details to a minimum, Raheem said they are on the verge sealing the deal.

"Yeah I'm on two songs on the [Wizard of Poetry] album and it's like the latest turn of events," Devaughn revealed in an interview to radio personality Angela Yee. "We real close to finalizing a possible Raheem Devaughn and Ghostface Killah album, you know what I'm saying? Where it would be like a collabo joint, you know. I think he got a great chemistry going." (Team Yee)

Ghostface previously spoke with SOHH about his early struggles to get singers for his new album, The Wizard of Poetry.

"I had the list in my head but my list ain't work," he explained last July. "These R&B cats is wild yo but some people heard my work and they just jumped on it. Like John Legend, he heard what I was doing and he just wanted to get on it. Same thing with Raheem DeVaughn. I wanted Alicia Keys, I reached out to Avant. Tamia but you know how it is with women. They just stood the kid up. They ain't get back so I had to just go with the fellas." (SOHH)

Trey Songz recently talked about the possibility of making a duet album with rap newcomer Drake.

"We'll have to see," Songz explained in an interview. "That's crazy. We always talked about that when -- life. Look forward to seeing more music from us. I think we'll make music together as long as we're both making music. We've done some songs for his album, but we do songs all the time. There's no telling if those songs will be on the album or not. I'm sure we'll work together again before his album is out in stores, but we got some special stuff brewed up." (Rap-Up)

Rapper Fabolous is reportedly hitting the studio with Ne-Yo and Ryan Leslie for a group project.

"We're talking about a triple-team collaboration that's really gonna hurt the game," Leslie revealed in an interview. "Your boy Fab, the boy Ne-Yo and yours truly on the board. It's really gonna put a hurting on everybody...The table is open -- if you're bringing something to the table, you can break bread. It's about conceptualizing. It's not gonna be a project that's thrown together. It's gonna be a real round table, and we're gonna talk about really putting something in the atmosphere that contributes something that's never been done before." (MTV)

No further details have been released as of now.

Apathy, Ryu & Scoop Deville Form Get Busy Committee

Author: Jake Paine

The same week that veteran underground emcee Apathy releases his latest, Wanna Snuggle?, it has just been announced that the Demigodz member will join forces for another release this December. Teaming up with Ryu of veteran west coast Hip Hop outfit Styles Of Beyond as well as producer Scoop Deville (son of Latino Rap pioneer Kid Frost), The Get Busy Committee plans to release Uzi Does It on Veteran's Day, November 11.

Both Apathy and Styles Of Beyond suffered the slings of major label shelf-lives. The Connecticut emcee had a lengthy, unfruitful tenure at Atlantic Records while the once Divine Styler-mentored group was among many underground Rap acts signed in the mid '00s to Warner Brothers.

Last month, Apathy explained to DX the significance of this side project: "Get Busy Committee might be a real big deal ‘cause of some of the moves we’ve made,” said Ap. “Like, my album is underground. Demigodz is super underground. But Get Busy Committee is gonna be something really fuckin’ crazy. We have Topspin Media behind us. We have [Mike] Shinoda behind us. We got the dudes at MySpace Music heavily behind us. So Get Busy Committee is gonna be something else...[And] if you don’t like it, I don’t know what to tell you,” added Ap. “I don’t really give a fuck."

The album is 100% self-released. In addition to CD and digital formats, Uzi Does It will also limited release on USB drives shaped like automatic machine guns.

Wyclef Jean, DJ Drama Collaborate For Upcoming EP

Author: Salima Koroma

Wyclef Jean's latest album will take inspiration from a figure whose image has long ago become a symbol of freedom and revolution for the island-country of Haiti. Titled From The Hut To The Projects To The Mansion, the EP will see Clef channelling 18th-century Hatian revolutionary Toussaint L'Ouverture, leader of the Haitian Revolution, an uprising that led to the abolishment of slavery and Haiti's independence.

Wyclef explained that his alterego on the EP, Toussaint St. Jean, delivers lyrics in a more aggressive fasion. "Toussaint is more direct," he said. "He aint going to sugarcoat nothing. Whatever he's thinking, he's going to tell you. It's like, I've still got this machete--my tonge is harper than it's ever been."

To emphasize the gritty backdrop of the album, Clef enlisted DJ Drama to host the project, which was at first slated for mixtape status. "I asked myself, 'Who's the toughest guy out there?'" Wyclef explained about his choice in collaboration. "Then I said, 'Well, DJ Drama is pretty badass.' So I called him and asked if he'd be interested in doing a mixtape. He heard what I was up to and he said, 'We gotta do a book--this is a novel!' He got excited, and it became more like an EP than a mixtape."

The 13-track album will see appearances from Timbaland, Lil Kim, Eve, and Cyndi Lauper who is credited as "Luscious Loo" on the project, and who will offer vocals to the track, "Slumdog Millionaire." From The Hut To The Projects To The Mansion will release on November 10, and will be the precursor to Wyclef's full-length album Wyclef Jean, releasing in March of 2010.

Pac Div Talk Free Album, West Coast Hip Hop

Author: Sean Ryon

With the myriad of blows dealt to California Hip Hop over the past decade, few ever expected the state’s music scene to bounce back with as much force as it did over the past two years. One of the groups ushering this new and sonically diverse rebirth of left coast Hip-Hop is the three-piece outfit and DXnext alumni Pac Div [click to read]. Comprised of brothers Mibbs and Like and long-time friend BeYoung, Pac Div are hard at work recording their studio debut Grown Kid Syndrome, slated for a release at the top of next year on Universal Motown. This past summer, the trio dropped their critically acclaimed project Church League Champions [click to listen]. They described to DX their mentality during Church League's recording process.

“After we dropped [Church League Champions], we went on tour…and everybody’s been showing us love,” said Mibbs. “A lot of people who doubted us before are listening to our music now like, 'Man, these dudes are really serious about this shit.’ It’s been an overwhelming feeling.”

BeYoung added, “Going into it, it was all about really just showcasing that ambition of having big dreams but having the smallest and humblest of beginnings, like even when you’re at that state of being on the come-up, you still have those dreams…like using the metaphor of basketball, you had those dreams of playing with Kobe [Bryant]…and LeBron James, but you’re starting at the church league. You’re working your way up. You’re starting from the smallest beginnings, but you know you’ve got the biggest dreams. We really just wanted to get that whole underdog theme across because we feel like we’ve got a lot to prove.”

A popular 2009 trend, Pac Div released Church League Champions as a free album. The three emcees explained that while they wanted to give fans top-tier quality music, they didn’t want to over saturate the industry with music. They intend to keep the number of free releases at market equilibrium so that listeners are more fully able to digest and appreciate the music.

“We just wanted to give people a real quality segment of music rather than just your standard mixtape,” said BeYoung. "We’re very savvy about the trends and all of that going on in music, but what we’ve found is that over the years, our situation is a very unique one and we really just figured out how to really work our situation because the way we do things isn’t standard…we don’t over saturate the market with music. We’re usual pretty selective of what we put out, so we make sure to take time to craft out sound that’s really fitting…it’s like Polo or Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein or Louis Vuitton – that quality over quantity and we make sure that when we do put something out, it’s a really big deal.”

The group also discussed their unique blend of Hip Hop. They discussed how they draw influence from California’s extensive variety of Hip Hop acts. Yet at the end of the day, what matters to them as artists is their own unique perspective, something they refuse to compromise.

“The sound’s always been there,” said Like. “Los Angeles has always been a progressive place…[the mainstream] only really gave you one side of [California Hip Hop]. They only gave you the gangsta side. We had groups like the Pharcyde, the Alkaholiks, I mean, Xzibit was killing, Ras Kass, [Hieroglyphics], Souls of Mischief, Freestyle Fellowship – we could go on and on. These groups [existed]…on the west at the time of Snoop [Dogg], [Dr.] Dre, Dogg Pound and Death Row were popping…it’s really a diverse place. Not everybody’s a murderer or a backpacker or no everybody’s conscious. It’s a big mixture [of sounds]…we just try to represent who we are as people.”

He added, “Honesty breeds integrity, so we feel like the [more] that you can be honest to yourself [and] to the people, the better off you’re going to do for yourself in the long run.”

Another new musical style coming out of the west coast is the youth-oriented jerk dance movement. Although the members of Pac Div are not pining to jump on the recent dance craze, they do say that they understand it and appreciate it as a positive and safe outlet in which kids can get involved.

“The whole ‘jerk’ thing definitely has its place right now and it definitely has its crowd, but what we do is like sliced bread: it’s never going to play out,” said Mibbs. “It’s [like] a service that’s not going out of style. What we do is totally unique and is always going to be relevant…so while [jerk dancing] exists, we pay respects to that. We don't do it, but we understand it. Usually, it's like the young kid movement, so as long as nobody's really doing nothing bad and nobody's getting hurt and people ain't shooting each other, I'd rather have them doing that."

Juvenile Says Hot Boys Reunion “Will Happen”

Author: Paul W Arnold

The man who still holds the title of having the best-selling album ever released by Cash Money Records with his quadruple-platinum 1998 solo effort, 400 Degreez, Juvenile, wants the world to know that despite a now nearly two-year delay plans for the reunion release with his onetime partners-in-rhyme in the CMR super-group the Hot Boys (Juvenile, Lil Wayne , B.G. and Turk) are finally moving forward.

“Me and Baby been talking the past week about taking time out our schedules and sitting down and doing this Hot Boys thing, ‘cause it’s time,” Juve revealed to HipHopDX late last Thursday (October 1st) of his recent discussions with Cash Money co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams regarding the recording of a new Hot Boys full-length. “People been waiting for it. I don’t see us not going platinum real quick. I think if we do drop a album everything is gon’ be at a standstill in the industry. So, we need to really think about jumping into that. But I think that’s gon’ happen.”

Juvenile revealed to VIBE this past March that he has already signed on the dotted line to (and already been paid to) record this new Hot Boys project. But a group album has remained in limbo for nearly two years now.

Initial reports surfaced in the fall of 2007 with B.G. and Turk confirming that a Hot Boys reunion was in the works following Lil Wayne’s “We back!” proclamation during a September ’07 performance.

Plans to publicly reunite first on stage on February 17, 2008 to cap off the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities in New Orleans [click to read] had to be scrapped after a shooting outside of the club where Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G. and longtime Cash Money in-house producer Mannie Fresh (in substitution for currently incarcerated fourth Hot Boy emcee Turk) were advertised by the club to perform together.

A subsequent showing of unity amongst the Cash Money Millionaires took place two months later, at the same club, Dream, where their previous public reunion attempt had been thwarted by gunfire. While Juvenile, B.G., Mannie Fresh, and Baby all made it to the venue, Lil Wayne was touring at the time in Europe and could not attend. Weezy would finally appear alongside his pre-Young Money crew a little over a year later when he invited Juvenile and B.G. to join him on stage this past June.

That appearance also came roughly a year after the Cool & Dre produced “Ya Heard Me” leaked. The B.G. song featuring Juve and Wayne originally intended for Gizzle’s long-delayed new solo effort Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood [click to read] first surfaced a couple of months after the club Dream show, and has thus far been the only new cut with the trio of Lil Wayne, Juvenile and B.G. to make its way to the public.

“We got another song I think,” replied Juvenile when asked if “Ya Heard Me” is the only new Hot Boys track the trio has recorded since reunion talks began two years ago. “I don’t know if it surfaced yet. But nah, [“Ya Heard Me” is] not the last [new song we did together].”

The threesome haven’t officially been in the studio together yet due to logistical issues, as Juve explained of their previous attempts to musically reunite, “It was a situation where we were emailing [vocals] to each other. We never in the same area, bruh. I live in New Orleans. I don’t know if B.G. moved, I think B.G. live in – I think he live back in New Orleans now…ain’t for sure. But I live in New Orleans, Wayne live in Miami. Right now I think he overseas somewhere. So it is what it is until we can get it right.”

For the fourth member of their crew, his inability to reunite with his Hot Boy brethren is also a matter of locale, with Turk currently being incarcerated as he serves a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to the attempted second-degree murder of a S.W.A.T. Team member who was shot three times during a raid on a Memphis, Tennessee apartment complex in January 2004.

“I wish I could have him out here right now, but bruh, it is what it is,” said Juve of Turk. “He locked up in Tennessee. They got laws down there dude that’s from what…the 1800s. And by that being the situation, being against the police… I put some money up and everything to get him out dude, so it ain’t like we not behind him to get him out and we don’t wanna see him free, he’s just in a situation where it’s 'Johnny Law' and he don’t wanna see him free.”

Whether or not Turk finds himself a free man in enough time to join Juvenile, Lil Wayne and B.G. in their planned reunion project, just having Juve, Weezy and B. Gizzle willing to work together again is cause for Cash Money fans to celebrate after enduring years of Hot Boys separation (and subsequent jabs at one another in songs and in the press) following Juvenile and B.G.’s exodus from the powerhouse N.O.-based Rap label in 2002 to launch their own respective recording companies (Juvenile’s UTP Records and B.G.’s Chopper City Records) amidst claims of being cheated out of due monies by Baby.

“The financial squabble part been over with,” revealed Juvenile of his now deaded beef with Birdman, Sr. “We was just mad at each other. I been got my money years ago. My financial part of the squabble been over. When Juve The Great came out that was the end of the financial squabble. My thing just was we had never sat down and talked. Me and Baby had never talked and squared out our differences. That’s what we had to do. He was reaching out to me through various people, but they never got the message over to me. Then one day it got to me through my manager, so I called Katina Bynum over there at Universal and she gave me his number, and I called him.”

“Everything I just told you about Baby, it’s the same thing with Wayne,” Juve continued. “No different. Wayne pretty much – Wayne and Baby pretty much rock together. So when I speak to Baby I’m speaking to both of them, I’m speaking to Baby and Wayne. Me and Wayne already was talking, so I definitely didn’t have to have [a face-to-face] with Wayne. I had seen Wayne a few times already.”

While squashed beef between Juve and Birdman, Sr. and Jr. has yet to lead to the Hot Boys first unified effort (not including 2003’s leftovers release Let ‘Em Burn) since the group broke through nationally exactly 10 years ago with their platinum major-label debut Guerilla Warfare, Juvenile is planning to begin work on the long-awaited project immediately after next month’s release of his new solo effort Cocky & Confident.

“The ball in [Cash Money’s] hands right now,” he reiterated regarding the reunion album. “I couldn’t tell you [how soon you will get new Hot Boys music], bruh. Right now, my focus is getting my [new solo] album out. B.G. album coming out on the [24th] of November. I come out the 17th. And after that my focus is on the Hot Boys album. We were getting ready to go in the studio and put an album out before the end of this year, but Wayne blew up. And he got all these tours and all this stuff going on, and he gotta go get his money, so we had to put all that on hold for now. But it will happen.”

Cocky & Confident is due in stores and online November 17th from UTP/Atlantic/E1 Entertainment.

Jam Master Jay Documentary Added to New 50 Cent Album and Movie

By Chris Richburg

50 Cent’s official return to music will highlight more than the rapper’s way on the mic.

AllHipHop.com has learned a new documentary on the late Jam Master Jay will be included with the rapper’s highly-anticipated album and accompanying DVD, both titled Before I Self Destruct.

The second DVD, titled Two Turntables and A Microphone: the Life and Death of Jam Master Jay, will offer a look inside the world of the Run DMC member, who was regarded as a mentor and friend of 50 Cent.

The G-Unit leader, who served as the executive producer of the 85-minute documentary, appears in the film along with rap moguls Russell Simmons and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, among others.

Prior to his death, Jam Master Jay played an important role 50 Cent’s career.

The turntablist provided the rapper with his first taste of the music industry by signing him to JMJ Records in the late 1990s.

Bill Cosby Releasing Socially Conscious Hip-Hop Project

By: Ismael AbduSalaam

TV legend and social critic Bill Cosby has announced a new album aimed at bringing socially conscious lyrics to the forefront of Hip-Hop.

The new project is titled “Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency,” and will be available directly though Cosby’s social media network site www.billcosby.com.

Cosby, a veteran of several comedy and music albums, serves as the executive producer. Although he does no actual rapping, he is responsible for conceiving all the narrative concepts for each track.

When describing the music, Bill Cosby explained it as a declaration of a new direction rather than an indictment of the current Hip-Hop scene.

"I don't like referring to the music as clean,” Cosby said in a statement. “What I like is what you're not going to do. You're not going to curse. You're not going to put women down. You're not going to put the glory of the gun somewhere. And you're not going to put a whole lot of violence up front like that's the thing that will cleanse you and make you feel better."

The production is handled by William “Spaceman” Patterson (Miles Davis, LL Cool J, Eric Clapton, Alicia Keys) and Ced-Gee, co-founder of the seminal Hip-Hip collective the Ultramagnetic MCs.

The album will mix elements of Hip-Hop, R&B, jazz, pop, rock, and funk. Song titles include “Where’s the Parade,” honoring black women, “Dad Behind the Glass,” about absent fathers, and “Get on Your Job,” detailing self-responsibility.

Bill Cosby and the Cosnarati Band will premier on October 19 via a virtual town hall meeting in New York City. The presentation is courtesy of Ustream and commences at 7PM. Additionally, the concert will be available on www.billcosby.com and www.facebook.com/billcosby.

ODB’s Son Boy Jones Gears Up For Rap Debut

By Chris Richburg

As fans prepare to remember the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard on the fifth anniversary of his death, the Wu-Tang Clan member’s son, Boy Jones, is set to carve his own niche in the rap arena with his upcoming debut solo album.

Sources told AllHipHop.com the first single from the project will be released before the end of the year.

The arrival of Jones’ debut will mark a new chapter for the rapper, who shares his father’s talent for creating memorable rhymes on the mic with what is described as a “unique freestyle flow” and “unorthodox writing style.

Jones’ desire to be an entertainer emerged after Ol’ Dirty Bastard called him onstage to perform verses from his classic hit, “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” at Harlem’s Apollo Theater when he was nine-years-old.

Although the rap icon doubted his child’s talent when he stepped into the booth to record music, Jones continued to pursue his dream by developing his writing and performing skills and joining forces with a friend to form the group Bang Out at age 16.

The rapper’s efforts over the years garnered the attention of Wu-Tang co-founder/producer RZA, who signed Jones to his Wu Music Group record label in the Spring of this year after his first recording was released on an official Wu Tang offering.

Jones continued to prove his worth when he joined the Clan’s original members for the Rock the Bells tour.

The outing provided a high point in the rapper’s career as he conjured up memories of Ol Dirty Bastard for concertgoers with performances of “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and “Brooklyn Zoo.”

In addition to touring, Jones has appeared on various musical offerings, including Lord Jamar’s 2006 opus, The 5% Album and soundtracks for the films The Protector and Afro Samurai.

Seeing the effects of drugs, the rapper has expressed an interest in giving back to the community by speaking to teens about the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse.

Other endeavors for Jones include film and television projects. News of Boy Jones’ forthcoming album comes close to five years after Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s unexpected death on November 13, 2004 at a recording studio.

The popular Wu-Tang member died of a drug overdose two days before his 36th birthday.

Boy Jones’ debut album is slated to hit stores in the Spring of 2010.
