by Paul Martinez

West Coast group Horseshoe Gang (Julius Luciano, Kenny Siegel, Dice Deniro, & Demetrius Capone) release a 17 track mixtape "R&B (Rap & Bitches)" hosted by DJ Skee.
Treacherous recording artists Horseshoe Gang recently dropped their R&B (Rap & Bitches) mixtape, the project includes involvement by Crooked I, Techniec, Jerzy J, Elz, Pac Ten, Iceman, Karelezz, One-2, Dizaster and K-Young.

by Soren Baker

Ces Cru, Snak The RipperSpice 1, Azizi Gibson, Duckwrth, Irv Da Phenom, Nocando and Kung Fu Vampire are among the artists confirmed to perform in cyphers at TeamBackpack.net's "Mission Underground" show in San Francisco, California today. Scheduled to take place at the Mission Cultural Center, the event is slated to begin at 6 pm EST and can be streamed live at ustream.tv.

The cyphers will all be done live, in one take, an
d over original production. “You get to see the artist live right then and there," Nelson Silva, who co-founded TeamBackPack.net in 2010 with Armani Cooper and Dev Tejwani, said to HipHopDX in an exclusive interview earlier this month. "There is no ‘Hollywoodness’ to it. It's one take. This is them and their talent. It’s the most naturalistic way to show an artist and how they go in the studio and get on the track. We get to see it live.”

In addition to the cyphers, Ces Cru, Azizi Gibson, Snak The Ripper, Kung Fu Vampire and Irv The Phenom are also scheduled to be interviewed by TeamBackpack.net during "Mission Underground." The interviews will take place in between cyphers and will appear during the live stream. The live stream will also feature music videos.

Just Blaze Said To Executive Produce Slaughterhouse's Third Album

by Jake Paine
Just Blaze Said To Executive Produce Slaughterhouse's Third Album

Shady Records website says that Just Blaze is reuniting with Joe Budden, along with Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5'9 for a leadership role on the third Slaughterhouse album.
Joe Budden appeared on MTV's Rap Fix Live yesterday. In addition to discussing his recent solo effort, No Love Lost and his season spent on Vh1's Love & Hip Hop, the Jersey City, New Jersey emcee revealed that his group, Slaughterhouse is quickly following up their 2012 album, welcome to: our HOUSE.

"We're locking in this month. It's time," said Budden of the collective that also includes Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5'9. The group was signed to Shady/Interscope Records after a self-titled 2009 debut on eOne Entertainment. The last album reportedly took two years to create, as Budden said earlier in his interview with Sway Calloway and the Rap Fix team.

welcome to: our HOUSE was a #2 debut, selling over 50,000 albums in its first week at retail. With the exception of Royce's contribution to Hell: The Sequel by Bad Meets Evil, that was the highest charting position on any album from any of the four members.

A new story at Shady Records' official website offers details on Slaughterhouse's to be titled third full-length album. The group's label site confirmed that Just Blaze will be executive producer of the album, which is currently being recorded in New York City. Just, who worked extensively with Joe Budden on the emcee's Def Jam Records debut a decade ago, produced on Joell Ortiz's last solo album, Free Agent, as well.

Talib Kweli Rejects "Conscious Rapper" Label, Says It's Limiting

by Roman Cooper

Talib Kweli Rejects "Conscious Rapper" Label, Says It's Limiting

Talib Kweli admits that there's truth to his label as a "conscious emcee," but simultaneously rejects it.
Talib Kweli's latest project, Prisoner of Conscious, may, in fact be reflective of his stance towards being typecast as a particular artist.
"I don't consider myself as a prisoner of anything," explained Kweli in an interview with VladTV. "Clearly, I do songs with Nelly," he added, laughing.
However, Kweli is aware of attempts to label an categorize him. "Clearly, other people in this business, whether it be consumers or fans, or more importantly, the labels or the media, have the need to label me and package me as a conscious artist."
"I'm not special. They don't just do it for me. Everybody get a label applied to them," conceded Kwe, before adding, "But it's a matter of how much you live up to that label, and how much you accept whatever label someone else has given to you."
"The conscious rapper label correctly applies to me, because I am a conscious rapper," he explained. "...But this industry has demonized the term 'consciousness,' and has demonized  the idea of positive message and music that can move people in a different direction other than debauchery."
Kweli explained that he embraces the challenge of making positive music, but that the label placed upon him is limiting nonetheless. "That's why I fight against that label. That's why I fight against being put in that box, because the people who strive to put me in that box... are limiting the audience that can hear my music."

In a 20-plus year career, longtime member of The Roots, Malik B has one released one solo project, 2006's EP, Psychological. Not currently with the group, the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania emcee announced this week his plans to unveil his full-length debut. Sugarhill Gang Releases Clip From New Documentary "I Want My Name Back"

by Paul Meara

Treach of Naughty By Nature speaks on the impact of Sugarhill Gang among other features from the short clip.
Sugarhill Gang will release a documentary regarding "the shocking truth about how greed and betrayal led to the band's fall into obscurity." I Want My Name Back will hit retail on June 11 and is expected to explain Sugarhill's business hardships behind the mic.
Saturday, the three release a teaser clip from the documentary highlighting Sugarhill Gang's unprecedented inclusion of Hip Hop on top music charts. The group was the first national Rap act to crack the Top 40 radio with their 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight," largely penned by Grandmaster Caz and was the highest grossing Hip Hop song of all time.
Treach of Naughty By Nature, a group who was signed to Sugarhill Records, is seen speaking in the clip about Sugarhill Gang's influence on Hip Hop music and music in general.

"It's mega, they changed the face of Hip Hop just by being like the first, not the ones in the Bronx, the Cool Herc's, but the ones who broke it like mainstream," Treach recalls in the clip.

The pioneering Hip Hop trio is the latest of many in the genre's history to release information regarding a sticky label situation. The documentary includes interviews with Naughty By Nature, and Grandmaster Caz.

Jay-Z To Drop Album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” on July 4th, Samsung To Give 1 Million Away For Free

by Keith Nelson Jr “The Next Big Thing Is Here” That is Samsung’s slogan for their ad campaign and also one of the last phrases flashed after Jay-Z took fans behind the scenes of the making of his newest album Magna Carta Holy Grail. In the commercial, Jay-Z is in the studio with the likes of Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz and announced he may release the album on July 4th. The Samsung deal Jay-Z signed on with earlier this month gains some clarity as Samsung will give away one million copies of Jay-Z’s new album for free to Samsung Galaxy phone users three days before the album is to be released.
