French Montana Signs With Debra Antney’s Mizay Entertainment

This past Monday, French Montana became the newest artist represented by Debra Antney and Mizay Entertainment.

“As far as management, she got it down pat,” French told XXLMag.com. “She got everything that I need, and I got everything that she need—as far as the East Coast market, the Tri-State. Deb’s never had nobody from the East Coast, besides Nicki [Minaj].”

The Bronx-bred spitter, who appeared as a featured guest on Waka Flocka’s album, said he first met Antney, who is Flockaveli’s mom, at a nightclub in New York a few months back. He had high praises for her work. “That woman is like a label by herself,” he said. “She just work. Being the person that I am, that I work just as hard as her, it’ll make it a whole lot easier.”

As previously reported, Antney recently reunited with star client Gucci Mane. In addition to the ATLien she also reps OJ Da Juiceman and up-and-coming star producer Lex Lugor ( who is responsible for Rick Ross’s hits “B.M.F.” and “MC Hammer”).

In addition to whatever new ventures come from this partnership, the Konvict Muzik signee already has a handful of projects in the works, including an album with Akon. He is also currently putting the finishing touches on a collaborative album with Three 6 Mafia, due out in the first quarter of 2011, and his solo album, Excuse My French, which he hopes to have out by next summer. —Adam Fleischer

J. Cole Confirms Work With Dr. Dre

by Omar Burgess

After J.Cole tells Rap-Up about Dre's "life-changing music," should fans expect the collaboration on his debut or Detox?

Prior to releasing his “Friday Night Lights” mixtape, J. Cole expressed his concern about making sure his formal debut album would reach as wide an audience as possible. Getting an assist from the man behind two of the past decade’s best selling artists should help in that regard.

“I did some work with Dr. Dre, without going any further than that,” Cole told Rap-Up.com. “I will tell you he’s incredible, absolutely incredible. He has life-changing music.”

The confirmation comes after Dre went on record with radio personality Big Boy and listed Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole as two artists he had his eye on. So far, two confirmed singles, “Kush” and “I Need A Doctor” have been released from Detox.

Past collaborators such as Bishop Lamont and Knoc-turn’al have said Dre takes a team approach to making albums, and a quick glance inside of 2001’s liner notes show’s ghostwriters such as Jay-Z listed with publishing credits. If the collaboration sees the light of day, the only remaining question is if it will be on J.Cole’s album or on Detox.

Eminem, Royce Da 5'9 Reunite On New Track 'Living Proof'

By Nolan Strong

(AllHipHop News) After years of beef, Detroit rappers Eminem and Royce Da 5'9 have reunited and released a new track titled "Living Proof."

On the new 3:45 second track, Royce and Eminem trade verses over a loop of James Brown's famous breakbeat "Funky Drummer."

The pair formed the group "Bad Meets Evil" in 1996 and recorded several tracks until the group broke up in 2000, after Royce had a falling out with D12.

A five-year feud between Eminem and Royce Da 5'9 started around 2003, after Royce had a falling out with Bizarre of D12.

A few years after the April 2006 shooting death of Proof, Eminem and Royce began a dialog to peacefully resolve their ongoing issues, which were even highlighted on the popular TV series Beef.

In March of 2008, after several violent run-ins between their respective camps, Royce and D12 ended their differences.

In June of 2010, hints at reunion surfaced, when pictures of Royce, Eminem and The Alchemist in Paris together hit the Internet.

The song's title is an obvious tribute to Proof, who was shot and killed by a bouncer in a club on 8 Mile Road in Detroit.

"I think after we lost Proof we realized how stupid this beef sh*t is," Eminem said during a June 2010 interview on The All Out Show on Sirius Satellite's Shade 45. "It was a serious wake-up call, man, and realizing that life's short. It feels good to be back in touch with the homie. When I rhyme with Royce, I always gotta step it up because Royce is f*cking ill. He's one of the illest lyricists to me, out, period."

The latest track between Eminem and Royce Da 5'9 may be further evidence that a deal between Royce's supergroup Slaughterhouse (Joe Budden, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz) is close to being complete, after months of rumors that the group will eventually sign to Shady Records.

Shyheim Reacts to Being Mentioned in Jay-Z's 'Decoded'

by Sean Ryon

The Rugged Child of the Wu reacts to being mentioned in Jay-Z's book 'Decoded' for his guest verse on Big Daddy Kane's "Show and Prove."

DJ Dax from DaxGlobal.TV CheckMateNewYork.com recently caught up with Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Shyheim to discuss being mentioned in Jay-Z's upcoming book Decoded. In the book, Jay recounts working with a then-14-year-old Shyheim on Big Daddy Kane's '94 track "Show and Prove," which also featured Big Scoob, Sauce Money and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard. He also wrote that Reasonable Doubt's "Coming of Age" was supposed to feature the Rugged Child, but the Staten Island rhymer passed on it and the guest spot ultimately went to long-time Jay-Z affiliate Memphis Bleek. Shyheim says that he is honored to have so impressed Jay as to garner a page in his book, and explains that although he now regrets passing on "Coming of Age," he feels Bleek's verse did it justice.

"I'm honored that I had an impact on [Jay] like that," he explained. "I never really had no clue to the extent of how I was viewed. The whole ['Coming of Age'] record thing, it's kind of disturbing because being an artist when you're young and things, people make decisions for you, and [not appearing on that record] was a decision that I don't know who made that call...but I personally did n't say no. It's kind of an awkward thing, because if someone would have been like, 'Yo, Shy,' then maybe we would have had that dialogue and it would've been a different outcome. Who knows, that's neither here nor there...at the end of the day, I think [Memphis] Bleek did a great job on the record. Coulda shoulda woulda, but it is what it is."

Shyheim also discussed the making of the "Show and Prove" video (see above), to which Jay alludes in Decoded. He says that what Jay said in him having an "...old soul" was simply his perspective at the time. Regardless, Shyheim said that growing up in the industry also had it's problems as he did not know how to separate Shyheim the emcee from Shyheim the person at that time.

"Like I've said, I'm that kid," he said. "I'm still that, you know me from Staten Island, I'm still repping. I was living this life. that's where I was at that age at that time. I don't look back at it and...pinpoint that feeling. It's weird being a kid in the game because you never really get the chance to be like 'I'm in the business.' It took me years to separate...Shyheim [Franklin], the regular motherfucker...and Shyheim the rapper."

The full interview with Shyheim can be been below.

Slaine's "99 Bottles" Video Directed By La Coka Nostra's Danny Boy

by Jake Paine

Noting that he was deeply influenced by House of Pain and Cypress Hill, Danny Boy directs the first visual from Slaine's delayed "A World With No Skies."

Boston, Massachusetts emcee and actor Slaine recently decided to push back A World With No Skies after his increased profile from acting in Ben Affleck's The Town. The decision was made to clear samples, as the emcee and his label Suburban Noize anticipated new listeners to the La Coka Nostra member's breakthrough solo album.

As A World With No Skies awaits release date, the emcee's premier video "99 Bottles" premiered this week at MTVu. Directed by La Coka brother Danny Boy, who was in 1990s group House of Pain, the video conveys a missing link in Hip Hop to Slaine. "’99 Bottles’ is basically a bar room brawl anthem that has a throwback sound to the era where Hip Hop was rowdy and fun at the same time,” Slaine said in a statement. “I was not only influenced by House of Pain and Cypress Hill, but now I am kind of a part of that lineage in the Hip Hop family tree. This joint was kind of a tip of the cap to them with my own rhyme style and personality on it. I don’t like club songs, when I want to party and get bent, this is what it sounds like.”

DJ Premier Breaks Down Year Round Records', New Compliation

By Roman Wolfe and Houston Williams

(AllHipHop News) DJ Premier recently sat down to talk with AllHipHop.com about his label's first compilation and working with the various artists on the label, as well as veterans.

Year Round Records' first release Get Used To Us is a compilation record that features guest appearances from Styles P., Joell Ortiz, Saigon, Freddie Foxxx, KRS-One, Grand Puba and others.

According to Premier, Year Round has six albums lined up for 2011: KRS-One's Return of the Boom Bip, Pete Rock Vs. DJ Premier, Freddie Foxxx's The Kolexion, NYG'z's Hustlaz Union: Local NYG, Nick Jovas' Destination Unknown and Tef's album Contraband.

"It's a beautiful thing that everyone has a vision, because I have always been a visionary, which is why i've existed all these years, 22 years professionally," DJ Premier told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview.

According to Preem, Get Used To Us is a sampling of the material to come from Year Round Records, which is focusing on developing new acts, by introducing them along side established veterans.

"With the compilation, I took two or three projects from every project, remixes we did on vinyl, so I said let's put all that [out]," DJ Premier told AllHipHop.com.

DJ Premier stated that his label's debut offering would be available digitally and in several other traditional formats.

In addition to stores like Best Buy and Target, Preem stated that the album would also be available in mom and pop stores and on vinyl.

"Best Buy, Target will carry my stuff. I know all the underground stores that still carry vinyl for sampling and digging…some people want to have the physical product," DJ Premier explained. "I still like to read the linear notes and read everything and just look at the CD and the artwork. I want to provide that."

Although the acts on Year Round Records are establishing their identities and building their brands, DJ Premier hand selected each artist because of their individuality, their professionalism and their ability to execute the vision for their music.

"Artist wise, everybody has their own lane," Premier continued. "You gotta have a good live show, you gotta make good records, know how to interview, you gotta know how to put your image out there. With all these guys, I've never had to sit down and go 'we'll what do you want to do?' As an artist, that means you paint pictures, how can you not visualize how you see yourself?

Year Round Records: Get Used To Us is due in stores on December 7th, 2010.
