Jay-Z Warns The Game About Taunts, "I Could Wake Up Tomorrow & Just Really Go Right In"

Jay-Z has addressed The Game's recent taunts and disses towards him and said while he is giving the rapper a temporary pass, things could easily change on a case-by-case basis.
Click here to find out more!

Speaking with radio personality Big Boy, Jay attempted to explain why The Game has been reacting negatively towards him despite not being dissed.

"I think he's been posturing for this thing for a while," Jay explained. "I guess he just took the fact that I said I'm not talking about him which is not a diss at all. I figured that was his opportunity, he's going on tour and he's promoting, or buzz or marketing or however people feel they need attention these days. So it's no real problems behind it, it's no real challenge behind it. With the Nas thing, that was a real thing, it wasn't done because of any marketing or anything like that. I typically let those types of things slide but you know, I could wake up tomorrow and just really go right in." (Big Boy's Neighborhood)

He previously spoke with DJ Semtex about Game's disses.

"[There should be a committee] because beef now is so corny," Jay said last week. "It's not really about nothing, I don't know if I said anything to warrant having beef, or if I said anything derogatory about him. If I say I'm not talking about this man,you know, I just said I'm not talking about him. I ain't say anything derogatory about him. So a lot of beefs are either misunderstandings, ego or just stupid or just done for publicity purposes. That could become tiresome. If it's a genuine clash for the top a la Jay-Z and Nas, that's official because we handled it the right way and at the end of the day we ended up working for each other. But a lot of beefs are just frivolous, they lack merit." (DJ Semtex TV)

The Game also warned Jay about what he planned to do if a diss was made against him.

"My fans expect me to respond and I ain't lost a rap beef to date," Game said in an interview last week. "He just really needs to sit his old a** down somewhere and let the new n*ggas make money...He knows if he goes to war with me, it's gonna be never-ending. From Joe Budden to Memphis Bleek to Ras Kas to Yukmouth to G-Unit as a staff, record label and group, I'm a one-man army man. I will tear you down. They will stop wearing Roc-A-Wear clothing...If Jay responds with a song, it'll be on his album because he's a pretty smart dude, witty, and he knows it'll benefit him more to put it on The Blueprint, if and when he does, just be on the lookout for '400 Bars' ...I'm a really put my pen on the paper and really strike a match." (103 Jams)

Jigga previously labeled Game a "groupie" and said he over-reacted to his freestyle name mention.

"I like the game, the game is changing all the time, I've been dominating the game," Jay said in an interview with Tim Westwood. "Now tell me exactly what I said, tell me exactly what I said. I said, 'I'm not talking about...' is that a diss? I'm not talking about you. 'Oh you hurt my feelings...' Tell groupie to get over it. If that's a diss, wear that. Tell groupie to get over it." Blue Scholars Sign With Duck Down

Author: Andres Tardio

The Blue Scholars will be releasing material through Duck Down Records in a partnership with Seatle's Caffe Vita Coffee Company. The first release in this partnership, Oof! will be dropping on August 25, 2009. September will see the re-issue of the group's Bayani release with Bayani Redux, which will feature one brand new song and two previously released tracks that were once available through digital download only. A press release from the label promises more full length projects to follow.

This move allows The Blue Scholars to maintain creative control as well as power over how the music is marketed and distributed.

Dru-Ha, the CEO of Duck Down, spoke on what this deal means to his label.

“I believe Blue Scholars is positioned to be one of the next important groups, not just in Hip Hop, but in music worldwide, and I want Duck Down to be a part of that. They bring their progressive ideas not just to their music and lyrics, but also in the way they think about and do their business.”

Distriubition of actual CD's will be handled by E1, which currently acts as Duck Down's distribution partner. Digital distribution will be handled by Tunecore and other marketing options will be worked out by the Blue Scholars and Topspin web marketing tools.

For Geo, of the Blue Scholars, the move was one that needed to be made.

“After weighing all the options, remaining independent is without question, the best look. Duck Down shares that vision and their track record speaks for itself. With them, we get that national and international push while still owning and controlling our music."

Why the partnership with coffee makers? Caffe Vita founder Mike McConnell says this shouldn't be too surprising.

"Coffee is both international and local, it effects the lives of millions, and it has tremendous ability to generate culture. We believe strongly in the work of the Blue Scholars and their power to look beyond the basic commodity that music has become. We are honored that Sabzi and Geo see that Vita is striving for the same goals."

Buckshot Discusses New Album, Technology

Author: Sean Ryon

On Tuesday, Black Moon emcee and Duck Down Records CEO Buckshot [click to read] spoke with HipHopDX about his upcoming collaborative album with KRS-One Survival Skills, coming this September 15 on Duck Down Records. Buckshot explained how the album’s recording process was like a call to war, and that as a general of both a label and a veritable army of artists, it was his duty to react as such.

“[My mentality while recording this album was] we’re going to war,” noted the emcee. “When it comes time to doing something [in which] I’m faced with pressure or discomfort, I always remember and say to myself that I’m a general in a boot-camp, and I can’t fail that position as a general no matter what I may personally feel. What I personally feel has nothing to do with my position as a general, so as a general, even though KRS-One is the man [and] I respect him and he’s a legend and I’m a student of KRS-One, I’ve got to get in there and bring back that trophy. I’ve got to get in there and assassinate that mic. I’ve got to destroy that bunker. I have to be a general at the end of the day.”

Buckshot also explained one of the album’s key themes: the rise of technology in Hip-Hop. Equating the Internet to the murderous machines from The Terminator series, he explains how Survival Skills is a reaction to the current state of the Hip-Hop industry.

“We’re living in the world [as] the John Connor’s [from ‘The Terminator’ films],” explained the BDI Thug. “We are John Connor. Those that stand for the independent movement, we are the John Connor’s and…‘Terminator’ is today. We are living in the T-1 era; this is the T1 era, and we are the John Connor’s. John Connor represents us, and that’s what that movie was trying to tell you. John Connor was the person that built the terminator, and he had to be the same person to come back and destroy it. Well that’s we are [doing]. We’re building the Internet, we’re building the terminator, and eventually, we’re going to have to come back and destroy it.”

Similarly, Survival Skills' cover, which depicts KRS-One and Buckshot climbing a treacherous mountain together, conveys a similar message to the Black Moon emcee. He feels that the cover champions the power and the integrity of their music over the homogenizing effects of technology in Hip-Hop.

“The message behind [the album’s cover] is that we are both proud to be in our positions,” explained the Brooklyn-born emcee. “That’s just behind that picture. We are both proud to be in that position. What is that position? I’m proud to be being pulled up by a general, a leader, a legend. I’m proud to be being held up by a legend, a leader, a general, somebody who is striving for the same goals that I [am]…we’re both striving for the same mission: to preserve the integrity of the human…and with us going into the technology era or the age of technology, we’re relinquishing that [integrity]. So people like myself and KRS-One are just going to survive on the will of the most high, strictly to do that.”

Later, he added “Before, we used to lack something. We had the right music, but we didn’t have the business. Well, they messed up when they linked up KRS-One and Buckshot, because Buckshot is in business. I eat craft and breathe business. So when you put that mind frame together with a mind frame like KRS-One’s, you’ve got a ticking time bomb. Let’s see if they stop us now.”

DMC Trades Darkness for Happiness on New Album

By Chris Richburg

Creating a follow-up to his debut solo album, Checks, Thugs and Rock and Roll, proved to be a motivational experience for rap pioneer DMC, who opted for a different musical path, after visiting Japan for a series of interviews to promote the 2006 release.

The result of the encounter provided the foundation for DMC’s forthcoming release, The Origins of Block Music.

“Every time the Japanese journalists would come in the room, whether it was male or female, they would go ‘Mr. McDaniels are you OK?’ Every interview ‘Are you OK? How do you feel today?" the New York native remembered, as he wondered why the reporters were so concerned about him.

“I just had to say ‘Yo, why do you keep askin’ me that?’ The journalist held the album up and said ‘because this album is so dark and depressin.’”

“And I thought about it. I talked about [Run DMC DJ Jam Master] Jay’s murder, finding out I was adopted, me being suicidal, me being an alcoholic, me losing my father,” he continued. “…These people probably think I’m an emotional wreck. And then I realized I was because I didn’t go to therapy. I wasn’t speakin’ to nobody after Jay died [and my] father died. I’m an alcoholic who just found out at age 35 he was adopted. But then I realized that that album wasn’t an album per se. That album was me letting all that darkness out of me.”

Featuring appearances from Sarah McLachlan, Kid Rock, Ms. Jade and Rev. Run, the release of Checks, Thugs and Rock and Roll came after the February 2006 premiere of the Emmy-winning VH1 documentary, DMC: My Adoption Journey.

The show chronicled DMC's search for his biological mother after the rapper discovered he was adopted while doing research for his autobiography King of Rock : Respect, Responsibility, and My Life with Run-DMC.

With The Origins of Block Music, the entertainer wanted a more upbeat offering as he set out to construct a project he labeled as “a carnival of great, innovative, fun, happy, rhyme, beats and music because the last album was so depressin."

Among those appearing on the album are Public Enemy’s Chuck D as well as Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, Motley Crue guitarist Mick Mars and Sebastian Bach from the band Skid Row.

The rock all-stars collaborate on The Origin’s second single, while DMC receives production assistance from fellow rhymesayer Freddie Foxxx on the album’s first single “Block Music Education.”

“He produced me a rock record that is phenomenal,” said the rapper, who touted the Foxxx’s knowledge of various musical genres.”

DMC’s The Origins of Block Music is slated to hit stores in September.

Rap Boss 'Baby' Says Cash Money Planning Six New Albums

By Tai Saint Louis

Cash Money Records and Lil’ Wayne’s offshoot imprint, Young Money Entertainment, are staging a virtual coup on the industry this fall.

In a recent interview with AllHipHop.com, Cash Money’s co-founder Bryan “Baby” Williams revealed the label’s combined roster will release up to six albums between September and October of this year.

Leading off the assault will be Hip-Hop’s newest star, Drake, who officially joined the Young Money roster in late June.

“We’re putting out five albums, we gonna do a blow out,” Bryan “Baby” Williams told AllHipHop.com. “Drake album, my album, Young Money, Wayne album. We gon’ put ‘em all out in one month, September going into October. G. Malone and 2 Pistol probably come out in between all of that.”

In order to fit his fourth solo effort, Always Strapped, into the line up, Baby had to forgo his original August 11th release date.

“I thought it would be something I wanted to do, just to get us all at the same time,” he explained. “And it’s just coincidence that all our songs popped off at the same time [since] some of them been out longer than others.”

While he added that the final order of the releases was still pending, Baby was certain that Young Money’s compilation album will be released on the same day as Lil’ Wayne’s next solo effort.

What he did not specify, however, was whether the album in question would be the elusive Rebirth, which has been pushed back several times since Wayne announced the non-traditional, rock-influenced project.

Asked whether he is concerned that the Young Money movement, which boasts buzzworthy artists Mack Maine, Nicki Minaj and Jae Millz as part of the roster could take away from Cash Money’s legacy, Baby responded that it would be impossible. He views Wayne’s imprint as a continuation of the work he and brother Ronald “Slim” Williams started with Cash Money in 1991.

“We one,” he shared. “I’m so proud of my son and what he doing. We the machine behind the brand. I wanna see it big as possible. I want my son to do better than what I done. That was the plan. That’s why he took over. The bigger he is, the bigger we is. I wouldn’t be a father, I wouldn’t be a business partner, I don’t even think I’d be a man if wouldn’t accept whatever goes on with my child.”

There’s one more reason why Baby is grateful to the energy Wayne and his cohorts have brought back to the game. He credits his “son” and the artists around them for his continued longevity as an artist because they keep him “feeling young.”

“My son makes it luxury for me,” Baby added. “I can do this till I [don’t] feel like it. I’m always moving to something else. Just cuz I do this don’t mean I don’t do that. I multi-task. But with me doing the rap thing, I do it cuz I love it. I love being on the road. But that’s just one part of the hustle baby. We into everything. It’s all about growing. For us to grow, Young Money gotta grow and everybody that’s attached to us. We want to be the best that ever did it.”

Jedi Mind Tricks' Vinnie Paz Preps Solo Debut

Author: Andres Tardio

Fans of Jedi Mind Tricks can now look forward to a debut solo effort on behalf of Vinnie Paz. However, the South Philadelphia-based rapper says there is no need to worry about him being upset with his group work. Instead, Paz seems devoted to taking on a new challenge and with Assassin's Creed, he's ready to face the doubts and expectations others might have about him.

"This solo record isn't a matter of being unhappy with Jedi Mind Tricks or me needing to satisfy my ego," he said via statement. "It's just an artistic challenge that I've wanted to tackle for awhile now and the timing is right."

He also says that many people might be puzzled by his direction, since the latest from JMT has basically featured Paz on the mic and Stoupe manning the boards exclusively. Still, he says that going solo gives him the chance to do something different with his music.

"Our fans are some of the best fans in independent music, but that success creates certain expectations of what Jedi Mind Tricks music should sound like, which as an artist is a blessing and a curse. This solo record is about stepping away from those expectations for a minute and challenging myself to try new things as an artist."

In an effort to go that different route, Paz has enlisted the services of Beanie Sigel, Clipse, Freeway and Paul Wall. Production will also come from Da Beatminerz, Madlib and Lil Fame of M.O.P. among others.

The album will be released this year through Enemy Soil but no finalized release date has been established as of yet. His first single, "Drag You to Hell" is already out. Paz is currently on tour with his group JMT's Hell Awaits Tour with Esoteric and Reef the Lost Cause.

Earlier this year, JMT partner Stoupe released The Decalouge

Joe Budden Apologizes To Method Man

Author: Danielle Harling

In a video filmed for JoeBuddenTV backstage at Rock The Bells, rapper Joe Budden officially apologized to Wu Tang’s Method Man for comments he made earlier this year.

Accompanied by rapper Mickey Factz, Joe Budden spoke for a little over four minutes on why he’s sorry for his actions.

“So [we] had a heart to heart…I really am sorry for the Method Man initial move,” said Joe Budden. “When I say I’m apologizing it’s because Joe Budden is truly sorry about something Joe Budden did. And it was in bad taste.”

Although apologetic Budden also added that if his name is brought up anymore the “peace treaty” is over.

“Now, I’m done talking about the entire Method Man, Slaughterhouse, Wu-Tang, everything. Joe Budden is wiping his hands clean of it,” explained Budden. “From this point forward if anyone of them nigga’s say something to me that I do not like or if anyone of them nigga’s say my name in a negative light the peace treaty is fucking over and the no comment movement is over man.”

The problems between Method Man and Joe Budden began when Budden questioned Method Man’s ranking in Vibe’s Best Rapper Alive tournament. Both rappers exchanged words and fellow Wu-Tang member Inspectah Deck even released a diss track entitled “House Nigga”.

Joe Budden and Slaughterhouse are currently touring with Rock The Bells.

Big Boi Says He's Leaving Jive For Def Jam

Author: Jake Paine

Since the folding of Arista Records, OutKast's group and solo contracts have been retained at Jive/Sony. After speaking with EyeWeekly last night, rapper Big Boi says that may be ending this month.

“The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering,” Big Boi said of ending his seven year contract with Jive, after leaving LaFace/Artista after Stankonia in 2000, the same year Arista reconstructed to J Records, Interscope and Jive. There, he released the group effort Idlewild [click to read] in 2006, after 2003's double-solo album project, Speakerboxxx/Love Below, both reaching multi-platinum status.

Since 2007 however, Big Boi's solo follow-up: Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty has remained shelved, despite single servicing and video production.

He told SOHH.com in June, "The push backs have just really been trying to get the situation together with the record label, and trying to learn a new system. There are some talks going on right now. I can't really release it right now. Probably within the next week or so, there will be a big announcement coming out and the album will be out this summer, believe it, it's done, it's it in the can and I'm very happy with it. We got to clearing it up."

According to EyeWeekly's story, Big Boi is set to to reunite with early mentor L.A. Reid, former co-founder of LaFace Records, now serving as Def Jam President.

Though not confirmed, it appears as Big Boi's album will go to Def Jam with him.

In the last year, The Clipse, UGK and Too Short have all ended contracts with Jive Records

Busta Rhymes Goes Independent With Publishing Deal

By Roman Wolfe

Hip-Hop star Busta Rhymes has taken a step towards independence via a new worldwide deal with independent publisher Kobalt Music Group.

According to the terms of the deal, Kobalt will administer 27 of Busta Rhymes’ tracks, including all songs on Back on My B.S., which contained the hit single “Arab Money.”

In July of 2010, Kobalt will begin administering over 150 of Rhymes tracks, which are currently being handled by Warner Chappell.

"We are thrilled to conclude this deal with Busta Rhymes which also includes synch licensing and creative services for film, TV, games, ringtones and other media,” said Willard Ahdritz, CEO and Founder of Kobalt. “He is truly one of the most influential artists in Hip-Hop history and we look forward to working closely with him.”

Busta Rhymes, born Trevor Smith, started his career as a member of the pioneering Hip-Hop group Leaders of the New School in 1989.

In 1996 Busta Rhymes began a successful solo career on the strength of his breakout single “Woo Hah!! Got You In All In Check,” taken from the album The Coming.

He has enjoyed numerous hit singles like “It‘s A Party” featuring Zhane, “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” “Gimme Some More,” “Break Ya Neck,” “What’s It Gonna Be” featuring Janet Jackson, “Make It Clap,” “Touch It,” “I Love My B**ch” and numerous others.

"We chose Kobalt not only for their competitive deal structure and fully transparent, online accounting system, but also because the team at Kobalt is knowledgeable, experienced and extremely involved and aggressive -- all the key elements we were looking for in our publisher. We're very happy to be here," added Mona Scott-Young, manager of Busta Rhymes.

Dead Prez Member M-1 Granted Access to Gaza with Viva Palestina U.S. Convoy

By Chris Richburg

Efforts to provide aid to needy residents in Gaza were finally granted as a Viva Palestina U.S.-led humanitarian convoy entered the country on Wednesday (July 15).

Among those traveling with the more than 200-member group were Dead Prez rapper M-1, New York City Councilman Charles Barron and former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney as well as representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Middle East Children’s Alliance, Cuba Coalition, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA), International Action Center, the Answer Coalition, International Socialist Organization and Workers World Party.

The convoy’s 10-hour trip to the Rafah border came after leaving Cairo early Wednesday morning.

The entry into Gaza came after the activists remained at the border for about six hours processing paperwork.

The experience proved to be frustrating for McKinney, who took issue with Israeli attempts to thwart Viva Palestina’s mission as well as a requirement by the U.S. Embassy to have American citizens sign papers waiving their right to be protected by their government if they enter Gaza.

“This was not required in the first Gaza convoy nor was such an item required in the Free Gaza Movement,” said McKinney told the Black Agenda Report.

According to reports, Egyptians have aided Israelis in blocking entry in to Gaza since 2007.

Because of Israel’s siege, the 1.5 million residents of the Gaza Strip are in need of humanitarian assistance.

The situation took a turn for the worse in December and January as Israel launched a three-week assault as military bombed homes, schools, mosques, hospitals and universities.

More than 1,400 Palestinians were killed in the attacks, which wounded more than 5,300 and left more than 50,000 people homeless.

The access to Gaza resulted after two previous attempts by McKinney to enter the country.

In December, a relief vessel the politician was riding in was rammed by the Israeli navy in international waters.

McKinney continued to encounter setbacks in late June as she spent seven days in an Israeli prison.

The time behind bars came after the Israel Navy arrested the McKinney and 20 other human rights activists after boarding their boat Spirit of Humanity.

McKinney was later released to join M-1 and the Viva Palestina U.S caravan, which was organized by British Member of Parliament George Galloway.

Among the items brought into Gaza were two ambulances, and 11 truckloads of medical supplies as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in medicine, food, toys and building cement for hospitals.

Q-Tip Pens New Book "Industry Rules"

By Roman Wolfe

Former Tribe Called Quest front man Q-Tip has teamed with Ballantine Books to publish Industry Rules which will contain the rapper’s thoughts on the entertainment business, fashion, love and morality.

The book’s concept will expand upon a classic Q-Tip line on A Tribe Called Quest’s classic song “Check the Rhime,” in which he states: "Industry rule #4080/Record company people are shady.”

The 4080 line became popular in Hip-Hop circles and was even the name of a popular rap magazine in the 1990’s.

"It was important to me to write a book because on the whole, I feel we could all be more literate, and as an artist, I’m always looking for ways to do something cool, different, and both light and introspective at the same time,” Q-Tip said in a statement. “With so many influences, like Duke Ellington’s writing, or the music played by radio DJs in the 70’s, or just what you see hanging out on Linden Blvd., there’s a lot to say, and I look forward to reaching a bunch of colorful dudes and gals with the project."

In addition to the aforementioned subjects, Q-Tip will also reveal never-before-told stories about his personal and professional experiences during his 20-year-recording career.

Industry Rules will be released in conjunction with A Tribe Called Quest’s 20th anniversary of their debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990).

Q-Tip is also planning to drop his unreleased album Kamaal the Abstract on Battery Records.

Jay-Z Calls Game a “Groupie,” Denies Chris Brown Ban

By Ismael AbduSalaam

After weeks of taunting video clips from The Game, mogul Jay-Z has finally broken his silence regarding the LA emcee and Chris Brown.

In a recent interview with UK’s Tim Westwood, Jay-Z addressed whether Chris Brown’s recent apology for the Rihanna beating was sufficient.

“We’re all flawed human beings,” Jay explained. “The most he can do is apologize, that’s it. What can we say? Everyone should be allowed to make mistakes, it happens. [Regarding blocking him from the BET performance], that’s the silliest rumor I’ve ever heard. I was really sitting back and watching the suckers comment, because you really don’t comment on rumors.”

The Brooklyn native elaborated that if he had personal issues with Chris Brown, it would be handled in a more direct manner.

“Let me first categorically deny it, that’s not even my style,” Jay stated.” If I have a problem with Chris Brown, I have a problem with Chris Brown. I haven’t said anything live or behind the scenes. I don’t agree with what he did, that’s it. As far as not letting him perform, that’s ridiculous and stupid. That’s a sucker move and I wouldn’t do it, and people commenting on rumors, it’s a sucker move…That’s not how I deal with my problems.”

Moving on to the Game, Jay-Z framed the recent attacks as the work of an individual desperate for attention, and questioned why his initial Game-mentioning freestyle would be taken as a diss.

“Ooh, you hurt my feelings, oh my God! Tell groupie to get over it,” Jay mocked and laughed. “If that’s a diss [my freestyle], wear that! Tell groupie to get over it.”

At press time, Jay-Z’s highly anticipated Blueprint 3 is scheduled to drop this fall on September 11.

Common Sued For Unspecified Damages

Author: Andres Tardio

Andrew Marks and London McDaniels claim Common took part of their song "When Will the Day Come" and used it in his own track "Take it EZ." They are noting that they weren't paid properly for the use of the song. However, Common doesn't deny that he sampled their work.

As a matter of fact, Common acknowledges that he used a piece of their work. In the downloadable version that is available online, Com chose to add a tag line to inform fans of this. "Contains samples from 'When Will the Day Come'" can be read on the online listing of the track, according to TMZ.com.

Still, Marks and McDaniels have filed a lawsuit for unspecified damages against the Chicago representative. They claim Com never obtained proper authorization to use their work.

Common has been focusing on film lately. He is rumored to be involved in the upcoming A-Team film and has been said to be The Green Lantern in the Justice League film that may be released sometime in 2011. The Internet Movie Database also notes that Common is tied to Just Wright, a film with Queen Latifah and Date Night, a movie that features Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Tina Fey and Taraji P. Henson. Both films should be due out in 2010.

Rakim Readies 'The Seventh Seal'

Author: Salima Koroma

The last time HipHopDX spoke to Rakim, his plans were to release his third full solo album in late 2008. One year later, fans are still anticipating the release of The Seventh Seal, the title of the as of yet unreleased CD. However, Rakim recently told Billboard.com that the album will definitely see a fall release. He explained that his inspiration comes from a desire to bring diversity back into the game since he feels it has become lost in the mainstream.

"When you look at Hip Hop," he said, "I want to do that: to spit fire and take our best from the ashes to build our kingdom; to recognize all the regional styles, conscious lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other. Lose the garbage and rebuild our scene. I've always tried to insert consciousness and spirituality in my records, interpreting the writings of all cultures and religions and how they apply to life in modern times."

Rakim kept mum about producers and features on the album, but suggested that he would introduce new talent and feature recognized artists.

"I'm going to keep that cat in the bag for one more minute. But you'll see names you know and names you don't recognize yet but will after this drops. We've got our New York dudes on there, but we reached out to everybody. We have some features too; special cats in the right places but not everywhere."

Having just come off a brief stint on Aftermath Records, there was a possibility that collaborative tracks between him and Dr. Dre would turn up on The Seventh Seal. However, Rakim told Billboard.com that those tracks would not see the light of day, although he was open to working with Dre in the future.

"No doubt [I am willing to work with him] if the project and the timing are right. He's got his thing going on and I got mine. But I know our camps will look for ways to mix things up."

The Seventh Seal will release this fall. To read Rakim's full interview with Billboard.com in which he talks about how the name of the album came to be, and what he thinks about Hip Hop's youth,

De-Haven Releases Jay-Z Diss Track

Author: Salima Koroma

With Jay-Z in the midst of a lyrical and very public battle with rapping peer, The Game, he has also found himself the subject of criticism from someone closer to home. Former friend and self-proclaimed mentor to Hov, De-Haven, recently put out a song criticizing the successful Hip Hop entrepreneur for what he claims is a lack of appreciation for those who helped him come up.

Having grown up together in Brooklyn's Marcy Projects, the two became close friends, according to De-Haven who also said he was one of the biggest supporters of Jay's music career before the days of Reasonable Doubt. However, the bond they shared disintegrated after De-Haven served a five-year jail term and came home to a family unit that did not include Jay-Z.

In an interview with HipHopDX in January, De-Haven expressed regrets that he and Jay drifted apart, and also some resentment at what he suggests is Jay's ungratefulness.
"When we were livin' in Jersey," he told DX, "Jay-Z was known as my little brother. Nobody could tell me that they were nicer than my little brother, as far as rhyme skills--that was impossible. Whoever was the nicest in their hood, I would say, 'Let me go get my little brother. I'll be right back.' Jay-Z would come out and destroy them."

Prior to the interview, De-Haven took to Youtube, harshly criticizing the rapper for actions he believes were "unloyal." Jay fired back in American Gangster's "No Hook," in which he implied that his former friend cooperated with Federal agents. "Fuck De-Haven for cavin' that's why we don't speak," Jay rapped. "Made men ain't supposed to make statements. End of the story, I followed the code, cracked the safe. Other niggas ain't in the game so they practice that. Leave that boy Hov alone, why don't ya."
Although De-Haven told DX that he would be willing to patch things up with Jay-Z in 2007, his recent diss suggests that attempts at becoming friends again have failed.

"Foul shit you do, the truth you can't hold back. My dude gave you credit, pay that man what you owe, black," De-Haven says in the song that also mentions Beyonce, as well as Jay's lack of street credibility.

Nas Brings AZ, Others To Rock The Bells

Author: Sean Ryon

Sunday night at the Washington D.C. leg of the Rock the Bells tour, headlining act Damian Marley was unable to perform with collaborator Nas for the concert's final performance. Not to disappoint fans, Nas called in a special guest performance with frequent collaborator and fellow member of the now-disbanded Firm, AZ. The two emcees performed a number of songs together, including "Life's a Bitch" from Nas' debut album Illmatic and "Affirmative Action" from It Was Written.

Styles performed first, doing hits like "Good Times" and "Blow Ya Mind," while Pharoahe followed up with a few songs as well, including "Simon Says" and he and Styles' collaboration "My Life." Nas Talks Album Number 10

Author: Omar Burgess

Nas has yet to finish his Distant Relatives collaboration with Damian Marley, but that hasn't stopped him from planning a follow up to 2008's controversial album, Untitled. In a recent conversation with Billboard magazine, Nas said he plans to start working on his tenth studio album right after completing his work with Marley.

"My shit right now is age-appropriate for myself," Nas said of the direction of his upcoming album. "I love everything, most of the things that are going on musically. But my music will talk about what I see, how I see it, and it should be interesting. My last things were about what I felt about hip-hop and what I felt about race matters. This new thing will be a natural thing. I have a few things that I feel like doing, but who knows what it will be."

Nas made headlines in 2008, when he appeared at the Grammy awards with his then wife, R&B singer Kelis and said he would name the album after the racial epithet, nigger. After much public discussion and criticism, the album was simply called Untitled. Nas' ninth effort proceeded to sell over 100,000 during its first sales week.

The Game Fires New Song at Jay-Z; Twitters About Beef

By Chris Richburg

The Game’s efforts to humiliate Jay-Z have entered a new phase with “I’m so Wavy,” a new recorded dis of the Compton MC’s Brooklyn-based counterpart.

In the four minute and 50 second song, which hit the Internet on Saturday (July 11), The Game degrades Jay-Z as he references Jay-Z’s looks and age throughout the track, in addition to weighing in on the rap mogul’s ability to conceive children with his wife, R&B vocalist/actress Beyonce Knowles.

"N****s pop tags, I pop the 4-5/N*****s got swag, I got the tech nine...Yeah, you got cheese and I kill rats/Translation, I still trap/Now do something with that, or respond to this/And with those big a** lips, you got my name in your mouth I hope it taste like uhhh, no homo, one more time/uhhh, that's your promo.”

“I’m So Wavy" is the latest in a string of criticism leveled at Jay-Z by the Game.

The former G-Unit member’s opposition stemmed from Jay-Z mentioning The Game earlier this month when he performed the introduction to his highly anticipated album Blueprint 3.

Days later, the Game responded to Jay-Z when he aired his grievances overseas by leading a “F**k Jay-Z” call and response chant during a live performance where he also referred to his rival as a “old a** n***a.”

The Game continued his taunts at another international concert as he mentioned Knowles during a freestyle that alleged an intimate relationship between the former Destiny Child’s member and various players from Texas based professional teams.

On Saturday, the rapper further commented on the beef on Twitter.

Although his efforts may echo his previous conflict with G-Unit, The Game maintained that his problems with Jay-Z paled in comparison to what he experienced with the 50 Cent-fronted collective.

“SEE, Y'ALL GOT IT CONFUSED. THIS IS NOTHING LIKE THE G-UNIT BEEF. THAT ONE WAS WON IN THE STREETS AS WELL AS THE MIXTAPES! "300 BARS" LIVES,” the rapper tweeted in all caps while noting how the conflict will not move beyond words.

“THIS BEEF IS A HIP HOP "CHESS MOVE". STRICTLY A LYRICAL WAR! DON'T MAKE IT MORE THAN WHAT IT IS... THOSE WHO DON'T BELIEVE WILL SOON SEE,” The Game said.

Despite the Game’s insults, Jay-Z has yet to issue a response to his rival.

Nevertheless, the West Coast rhymesayer clarified his reasons behind dissing Knowles as he stated that Jay-Z had done the same thing in previous battles.

“I WAS FREESTYLIN' & SHE GOT HIT.” 4 THOSE DEFENDIN JAY ASKIN Y? AINT JAY DA N***A WHO SAID HE CAME ON NAS's BABY SEAT,” The Game added.

“HE CAME OUT HIS MOUTH 2 SAY "GAME" & JUST LIKE ANY N***A WIT ENUFF SKILLS 2 LOCK IN, I "LOCKED IN”! IM SO WAAAAVY AINT S**T BUT A STATEMENT.”

In addition to Jay-Z and Knowles, The Game mentioned fellow rapper’s Lil Wayne and Drake in "I'm So Wavy" as well as Amber Rose, the girlfriend of rapper/producer Kanye West.

The video model’s loyalty to West was highlighted in the song by Game, who advised the Chicago artist to “get rid of Amber Rose.

“I'mma tell you how she get down/ I was at Diddy's afterparty/ Sippin' Cris, she was whispering at Chris Brown/ I seen Chris turn his head like, 'No'/ Then 'Gold Digger' came on, I pointed like, 'Ho!'," The Game continued.

The Game also mentioned a rift between Jay-Z and West that allegedly resulted in a backstage fight at a concert.

The Game also harped on Brown, whom the rapper said was supposedly blackballed from this year’s BET Awards, after Jay-Z threatened to stay at home instead of taking the stage for their scheduled performances.

At press time, Jay-Z has yet-to-address any of The Game's insults.

The Game Continues To Taunt Jay-Z, Disses Beyonce In Madrid

By Roman Wolfe

The Game is showing no signs of halting his assault on Jay-Z, as two new videos have surfaced featuring the Compton, California native disrespecting Hip-Hop’s biggest earner in 2009.

In his latest Lamborghini Blog, The Game acknowledges the gulf between his financial status and Jay-Z’s, although he was quick to point out he too, was earning money, making Forbes' list for 2008-09 earnings at around $6 million.

During the course of his latest 30 minute video blog, The Game shaves, shows off his clothes, takes viewers on a tour of his penthouse suite in a hotel in Spain - and continued his attacks on Jay-Z - during a stay as part of his tour across Europe.

The majority of the blog features The Game walking the streets of Europe talking to the natives, as well as people from The United States.

In one humorous incident, he asks a Mime if he was familiar with The Roc (as in Roc-A-Fella).

The mime clueless, states he was but, referred to wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

On stage, the humorous tone was left behind, as The Game continued to taunt Jay-Z, screaming to the crowd “f**k Jay-Z” and once again labeled the Roc-A-Fella CEO an “old ass n***a.”

The Game then launched into a freestyle verse where he called out Jay-Z’s associate and longtime friend Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith and even took a shot at Jay’s wife, Beyonce Knowles.

“You got a bad b**ch word/Aint no p***y like hers/Just ask the Mavericks, Cowboys, Rockets and The Spurs,” making reference to sports teams in Knowles’ home state of Texas.

Jay-Z has yet to respond to either of The Game’s recent verbal jabs, the last one coming in Bordeaux, France.

The Game is currently on a tour of Europe.

Cash Money Mixtape Lawsuit Thrown Out Of Court

By Chris Richburg

Cash Money Records’ lawsuit against mixtapeBCD Music Group is a thing of the past.

The record label’s case was thrown out by federal court judge Miriam Cedarbaum, for failure to clearly state any causes of action upon which relief could be granted, a lawyer for BCD Music Group old AllHipHop.com.

The dismissal marks the end of the conflict between Cash Money, and Texas –based independent distributor BCD Music Group, which was also named in the label’s complaint.

In February, Cash Money filed its lawsuit against Drama’s Aphilliates Music Group, BCD, Makin Moves Entertainment and others amid claims that the music of Cash Money rapper Lil Wayne, was created and distributed illegally through mixtapes.

The suit, which was part of an ongoing case against BCD, centered around three volumes of Drama’s Dedication mixtape series as well as Happy Father’s Day, featuring music by Lil Wayne and Baby and Frank Nino’s When the North and South Collide.

News of the lawsuit triggered speculation concerning tension between DJ Drama, Lil Wayne and the mixtape community in general.

The turntablist dismissed the rumors in April as he noted how the accusations against him were “misplaced.”

“This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs. DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good,” Drama stated.

“I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationship between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records.”

Cash Money’s lawsuit was an amended version of a previous complaint that was withdrawn after being served.

Despite the outcome of the case, BCD's lawyer, Wallace Collins, Esq., revealed that Cedarbaum gave Cash Money until September 9 to re-file a second amended complaint if they choose to further pursue the case.

If the complaint is not filed, the dismissal will be deemed final and with prejudice.

Lawyers for DJ Drama contacted AllHipHop.com to clarify that only BCD was dismissed from the lawsuit.

Joe Budden To Inspectah Deck: "I'm going to tear him up for fun"

By Houston Williams
A full-fledged lyrical feud has broken out between Inspectah Deck of the Wu Tang Clan and Joe Budden, who now represents for Slaughterhouse.

While Budden has yet to respond in song, Deck has released a song called “House N***a,” where he proclaims “the war is on.”

The lyrical beef is a result of Joe Budden expressing that he was a greater emcee than Method Man in a tourney of the best rappers alive by now-defunct Vibe magazine.

"When I first heard the Inspectah Deck s**t I thought it was weak but I said, 'Aight I'm going to tear him up for fun," Budden said on BlogTV, a site he uses for live video blogging. "I just wish somebody else would've responded, not him... Me and Raekwon talked it out, me and Busta Rhymes already spoke. Now here you come...”

Budden didn’t say that he would definitely respond, but he did sent some barbed words for Deck.

“While Inspectah Deck may be considered a legend for the one great verse he had in his 30 year career, it's 2009...We'll see how it all plays out. We gotta see how it goes down when I get into the studio,” Budden continued. “He should be dissing RZA for not paying him. When Saigon dissed me, my next dis track was the fact that I got paid from his dis track. I don't think people really use their heads. He rapped on 'Pump It Up.' Me and Just [Blaze] got paid for it."

On the song, Deck admits to defending Method Man, who refused to entertain a battle with Budden.

On his blog, Budden suggested that he may use the feud to push his Slaughterhouse album with Crooked I, Royce Da 5’ 9” and Joell Ortiz.

“Honestly, dude ain't worth responding to... But I DO have an album coming out.. Mite be buzzworthy to cook dude.. We'll see,” Budden wrote.
