Diamond D & Big Rec Form DoomsDay Group, Recording Project

by Jake Paine

From Ultimate Force to D.I.T.C, Diamond D has another group he's working on, with Big Rec.
Diamond D is a founding member of the Diggin' In The Crates crew, better known as D.I.T.C. The Bronx, New York native and mentor to Fat Joe has worked with the likes of The Fugees, Busta Rhymes and Xzibit, throughout his nearly 25-year career. This week, 3 Little Digs revealed that the now Atlanta, Georgia-based producer/emcee has a new venture in DoomsDay, with local emcee Big Rec.
After watching Big Rec Apache Cafe, D reportedly stepped to Rec as a supporter. "He approached me, and said he wanted to work," said Rec in a new video filmed in Norcross, Georgia's Tree Sound Studios. "It was an honor to even be approached by a legend. That was a high-point in my career."
Diamond, who has released three studio solo albums, stressed two ultamatems in forming DoomsDay. "We'll do the project, it's just two conditions: One, [you] can't leave with any music till the project is done. Two, don't ever, ever, bring anybody to my house," said the onetime member of Ultimate Force.

Roc Marciano Named VP Of A&R At Man Bites Dog Records

by Jake Paine

Roc Marciano will be a part-owner and adviser in the label with releases by Copywrite, MHz, Eddie B & Harry Fraud and Esoteric.
Long Island, New York emcee/producer Roc Marciano can now add record executive to his resume. The Hempstead native will now assume the role of VP of A&R at Virginia-based Man Bites Dog Records. The label roster includes Copywrite, Eddie B, and Diggaz With Attitude. Additionally, Roc is planning to release his third solo album, Marci Beaucoup later this year on the indie label.
"I know fans are really excited about that project," said label CEO Ryan about Marci Beaucoup, "and for good reason, too. What I've heard so far is next level." In his new role, Marciano, who has guested on a number of previous Man Bites Dog [Records] albums, will also continue to be featured on label releases. "You can count on some very dope guest spots from Roc on some of our newer projects coming out."
He continued, "I think having Roc as an owner and an adviser to the label is a smart investment for both brands," explained R.M.L. "He is very savvy with how he brands himself, and that's something we can really learn from."
A former Busta Rhymes protege and member of Flipmode Squad, Roc released Marcberg in 2010 and Reloaded in 2012. The latter was co-executive produced by Alchemist.
Years ago, Brooklyn, New York emcee Torae was named head A&R at New York-based Soul Spazm Records. In the 2000s, Jim Jones and more recently, Young Jeezy, have held the position at Atlantic Records.

Immortal Technique Announces Rebel Armz Album & "The Martyr 2"

by Andres Vasquez

Immortal Technique also updates "The Middle Passage" and explains delays.
Yesterday (April 1), Immortal TechniquePoison PenSwave Sevah and Constant Flow stopped by the HipHopDX office to speak about a variety of topics. During an interview with HipHopDX's Editor-in-Chief Justin Hunte, Technique revealed information about his next few projects and provided an exclusive regarding a Rebel Armz album.
"I've got people playing instruments on this mothafucka," Technique said of his highly anticipated album, The Middle Passage. Technique continued by saying that he had to scrap two songs from the project recently because of issues clearing samples.
"I really wanted to go all out and have an organic sound but it's still Hip Hop. This doesn't sound like an Opera album or some crazy shit like that. We didn't go off the deep end but technically, I had to scrap two [songs]. What came out of that was also the idea that if 'The Martyr' was so successful - because we did over a million downloads for it - if 'The Martyr' was so successful, we're gonna have to have a 'Martyr 2' now. That unreleased song is gonna go on 'The Martyr 2.'"
Next, Technique shared that he has plans to release a collaborative project with Rebel Armz, a group of emcees that includes Poison Pen and Diabolic.
"I'll be able to put out The Middle Passage, 'The Martyr [2]' and me, [Poison] Pen, Diabolic and the rest of the crew have been kicking the idea around a lot about doing a Rebel Armz album and I think it's overdue. So I'm gonna say [it] here on DX, since y'all like exclusives, that we are definitely gonna do it. This is the first time I'm saying it. The Rebel Armz album [with] Immortal Technique and the whole fuckin' squad is gonna happen. It's going down."
The Middle Passage has been delayed for several years. In 2010, Technique said he was working on the album, which was to be a "conceptual" project. By 2011, Technique explained that he hoped to release the album in the first quarter of the following year. “[It’s about] halfway done," he explained then. In that same year, Technique released "The Martyr" to critical praise and over a million downloads online. The Rebel Armz consists of various emcees including Technique, Chino XL, Swave Sevah and Akir.
