Bekay To Remix Hunger Pains With New EP

DXnext emcee Bekay released his Hunger Pains album in November on Coalmine Records. The full-length featured appearances from Masta Ace ("Brooklyn Bridge" ) and R.A. The Rugged Man amidst production from The Alchemist, J.R. Rotem and DJ Babu.

This week it was announced that Coalmine will be releasing a remix EP from Hunger Pains. The digital and vinyl collection features new mixes from M-Phazes, DJ Qvali and others.

Matt Diamond, CEO of Coalmine, made the following statement regarding the release of The Hunger Pains Remix EP. "As a label, Coalmine places a strong emphasis on the producer as well as the artist and there's not a better way to breath new life into a previously existing record than by creating a remix. The idea to release The Hunger Pains Remix EP is inspired largely from the days of when classic albums would be followed up with a 12" or vinyl EP that would contain otherwise nearly impossible to find remixes. The concept of collecting and 'digging' for those hard to find gems is an element of the culture that has shifted from record stores to downloads. Although the experience has changed, the end result is the same...dope music."

The tracklisting is as follows:

Tracklisting: 1. "I Am" (Remix) feat. Dilated Peoples
2. "I Am" [NODFACTOR.com Remix] (prod. by DJ Qvali)*
3. "Brooklyn Bridge" [Part II] feat. Sha Stimuli & Push! Montana
4. "Brooklyn Bridge" feat. Masta Ace (M-Phazes Remix)

Raekwon Joins Evidence in Studio

by Andres Tardio

As Evidence prepares his first album to be released via Rhymesayers Entertainment, he has decided to leak a video with some insight. The video features
Raekwon and Evidence in the studio, typing on their Blackberry phones and gearing up to record their verses over an Alchemist beat that plays in the background.

The video also comes around the same time as Evidence has promised to stop his activity on Twitter until the album is fully mastered. This has only intensified the buzz for Cats & Dogs. Although this title may sound as if it is connected to his last full length album, The Weatherman, it is not a sequel, as he told us last year.

"I don't like sequels," he told DX in April. "I like Jaws
. I don't like Jaws 2. For the most part, I'm just making something new. I can't do the same record twice. When I made Weatherman, it was based around a lot of dark imagery, the passing of my mom, certain things that I just really had to talk about. Since then, I've experienced a whole lot, though. I really feel like I have something to offer with this."

Former Bad Boy Producer Launches Artist Development Company

By Ismael AbduSalaam

(AllHipHop News) Anthony “Scoe” Walker is set to utilize his near decade of experience as a Bad Boy producer and A&R to develop artists through the newly founded Temp Music Management.

With labels reticent to spending any money on new artist development, Walker’s company looks to assist new artists on industry protocols such as image consulting, production, and how to submit materials to labels.

Walker cultivated his career after arriving in New York from his native Lake Charles, LA.

After meeting with Bad Boy A&R Conrad Dimanche, he sold his first production track to Loon, and then moved on to work with 702, Tamia, Eightball & MJG, and Dream.

His work led to him handling A&R duties for Suavehouse’s Rick Ross LP Rise to Power. In Mario Winans and Conrad Dimanche, Walker retained two mentors that encouraged his vision to help new artists make a way in the ever-changing music industry.

"During my time producing records for Bad Boy, artist Mario Winans took me under his wing and showed me a lot of what I know now,” Walker stated to AllHipHop.com. “Relationships that I have forged with people like him and Conrad have been of insurmountable value to me, and I feel like I owe it to the next generation of music makers to share the knowledge I've gained."

Temp Music Management purports to offer clients an extended network of music executives, lawyers, and producers for consultations to empower the artist(s) for an eventual major label meeting.

Contacts include executives from Shady Records (Senior A&R Director Riggs Morales), Suavehouse (Tony Draper), and Def Jam (VP of A&R Lenny Santiago).

Interested artists can view the Temp Music Management website at www.tempmusicmanagement.com. The site’s official launch will commence on February 7.

GZA Speaks On New Album, Collaborations and More

by Andres Tardio

GZA has been working in the shadows, crafting new material. With the Wu-Tang legend, its classics and "drama" placed on the side, he is expanding his borders, unafraid to tackle new challenges. Now, GZA is determined and he has recently spoken about this, collaborating with artists from other genres and the status of a forthcoming Wu-Tang Clan album with writer Jeff Weiss.

GZA may have surprised fans by working with The Black Lips and King Khan but he says it was a natural choice to put their minds together.

"The bands were fans of Wu-Tang and I and we decided to perform together. It worked out well; they’re good musicians and we have a mutual admiration and love. The thing is, they were already connecting with me in some way first. I’d never heard their music before, but I was feeling it and when I saw both of those groups perform live, I knew I could work with them. The vibe was there."

Devendra Banhart is also working with GZA.

"I met Devendra at Coachella. I watched him and Gang Gang Dance perform and thought they both put on really great performances. I was like ‘who is this guy,’ because he was rocking, and it turned out that he was a big fan. When I met him, he told me what an honor it was and how much he loved Liquid Swords and Wu-Tang. So it was a beautiful connection."

It seems any time a Wu member is interviewed, the question of the next Wu album is innevitable. As it stands, the question is one that needs to be asked, specifically due to the group's last effort, which was followed by rumors of tension, disagreements and more. However, GZA, while speaking on it as "drama," says he is hopeful.

"I’ve got some songs done for my own album, but I’m still writing and recording. There’s been talks about doing another Wu-Tang album and going out on the road to promote it. We’ve just all got to get together and do it."

Queens Veteran Rapper Killa Sha Dies

by Jake Paine

Rap artists including Planet Asia (via Twitter) and website Unkut.com have confirmed that veteran Queens
emcee Killa Sha passed away this weekend due to complications from Diabetes. A onetime partner of Tragedy Khadafi, Sha was a member of Juice Crew affiliates The Super Kids.

Later becoming Killa Kids, Killa Sha released several vinyl singles. Throughout the '90s, he remained close with Mobb Deep and Tragedy Khadafi. Sha, who also recorded as Sha Lumi, worked as a deejay for Prodigy and Havoc, while also recording as a rapper with Jedi Mind Tricks, Tragedy and Screwball.

He last released God Walk On Water on Traffic Entertainment in 2007. There was a rumored full album with Large Professor in the works, with whom he worked on last year's Main Source.

UPDATE: Christian Hedlund of the Traffic Entertainment Group, spoke of the rapper's impact to the label, and what they witnessed in Sha. "We felt that Killa Sha was perhaps the last real Queensbridge rapper, period. He was a righteous individual, real stand-up guy, who delivered what he promised, and delivered quality. Not something we run into all the time."

Complex Chronicles Jay-Z's Subliminal Disses

by Jake Paine

One of Jay-Z's strengths has always been his ability to walk a fine line in his lyrics. While many more rappers have "taken shots at Jigga" than the converse, Jay-Z's own digs at his peers date back to the '90s.

Today the staff at Complex.com has compiled a history, "Shots Fired? Jay-Z's Sneakiest Dis Lines." The piece evaluates various Jay-Z lines, from album cuts, freestyles, appearances and more. Potential targets include debatable advances on Jayo Felony and Lil Wayne
to more obvious addresses to Dame Dash, Cam'ron and Nas.

For example, looking at 2009's "Reminder," The Complex.com staff looked at the lyrics, "Now everybody’s senile on me / Throwbacks, I threw ‘em back, remember those, button-ups? Young Hov, tell them ordinary Joes button up." They deduced that the second bar may have been a slight to onetime Jay critic Joe Budden.

Snoop Dogg Signs Cypress Hill To Priority

By Roman Wolfe

Snoop Dogg’s goal of uniting the West Coast rap scene is one step closer to fruition, as the rapper has announced Cypress Hill as his first singing, since taking over as Creative Chairman of Priority Records.

Cypress Hill (B-Real, Sen Dog and Eric BoBo) recorded for Columbia/Sony the majority of their career.

Today (January 15), the group announced a worldwide exclusive deal with Priority/EMI and will release Rise Up, their first studio album of all new material, in six years.

"My role as Creative Chairman of Priority Records has put me in the driver's seat to help revive the most important west coast Hip-Hop label," Snoop told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "As such, I'm excited to announce my first signing as Cypress Hill. Cypress Hill is undeniably one of the most important Hip-Hop groups in music history, not only are they incredibly talented and the first Latino Hip-Hop group to go platinum, they are also from the west coast-so this signing is the perfect marriage."

Although the group hasn’t released an album in six years, they remained active in the recording studio.

Rise Up was recorded over the past three years at B-Real’s Los Angeles based recording studio, The Temple.

"We took a little break after the last record to work on individual projects," B-Real stated. "Both Sen Dog and I wanted to put out our own solo records, which we had been working on for some time. And though we were doing other things, we each kept ideas in mind for Cypress Hill and would go into the studio periodically to record. It was great to work at our own pace and without a deadline hanging over us. We'd get together at my studio and record whenever we felt that burst of creativity. It was an amazing way to work and resulted in what I think is our best record yet."

The self-titled lead single from Rise Up features Rage Against The Machine/Street Sweeper Social Club group member Tom Morello, who also appears on a track titled “Shut ‘Em Down.”

"It was great to work with my longtime friends and comrades Cypress Hill on these two monster rock tracks," said Morello. "Cypress are back with a vengeance!"

Cypress Hill’s Rise Up is the follow-up to the group’s 2004 album Till Death Do Us Part.

Rise Up is due in stores April 6.

Crooked I Creates "Kunta Kenzino" On New Track, Ends Benzino Conflict

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Slaughterhouse's Crooked I has announced the end of his beef with Benzino by creating a fictional "Kunta Kenzino" personality for a sketch on his "On To The Next One" freestyle.
Click here to find out more!

Prior to getting into the track and saying he is done dissing, Crooked uses Zino as a character during slavery times.

"Hey, come here," a fictionalized Zino says. "I got a pistol. Massa gave it to me. Massa says I'm a good n*gga. He give me a pistol, see this right here? If you pull this back like that, it shoots fire out the other end. Just like magic. Terrible magic. Massa said we can keep all these field n*ggas in line and if them field n*ggas get they hands on one of these, uh uh uhhh, they gon' be in troubbble. Mighty powerful trouble. Because as sure as I'm Kunta Kenzino, I'ma tell on them n*ggas. We good n*ggas. That's my whole plan, to tell Massa on them n*ggas." ("On To The Next One" Freestyle)

Royce Da 5'9 also taunted Zino on a video recording last weekend.

"Yo Benzino," Royce says in a self recorded video. "We ain't got no beef with you because you ain't never did nothing to me. You ain't never came close to putting no hands on me, I ain't even seen you in person so I ain't got no reason to wanna kill you. So all that pulling guns out and acting like a motherf*cking 'Rambo' and sh*t, if I see you, you better be the same n*gga in the video and when I see you, we gonna talk and let's talk. I ain't saying I got no beef but I wanna know what your motherf*cking problem is. Okay 'Mr. Burns.' You better slow your motherf*cking roll, all them liver spots you got on you. All that f*cking retirement home stench...You look like Sean Paul...You talking all that murder sh*t, but you need to get back on the rapping tip..." (Hip Hop News 24/7)

Prior to that, Zino released a video going after Crooked I.

"Okay, first of all, we gonna talk about what that was about, that was about trying to give you f*cking weirdos some f*cking pub in the number one urban selling [magazine]," Zino said in the video. "[Your] cigar isn't even lit, you got this big stupid a** hoody trying to talk like you reading from a script, you're p*ssy Crooked, and you're named after a malt beverage. I know Suge [Knight] done left your a** butt a** naked out there a long time ago. You need to go handle that. Because you don't want none of me. And you talking about guns and stuff, silencers on guns, since we on a gun subject, let me show you this right here...Guns is a part of life, y'all n*ggas pop sh*t -- and then when it comes down to some real sh*t, some real n*gga sh*t, then it's a bunch of 'Oh, I'm not, I'm not.' You dry snitching, there's only one thing worse than a snitch and that's a dry snitch." (Halitosis 2K)

Previously, Crooked asked why Zino was trying to involve guns in their dispute.

"Benzino, yo, real talk, why?," he asked. "You talking too much homie, you doing too much. It's only a couple ways to get out of a beef, man, and you might as well squash this sh*t. I know you was mad because [we] didn't do the motherf*cking interview with your magazine, but that was some other sh*t. You knew what that was about. You shouldn't have even spoke on it or caught feelings. If you a real gangsta, you don't catch feelings over that sh*t. You thinking with your emotions right now. Showing guns on the Internet? N*gga, you on the hip-hop cops radar right now, that's what you just did. Calm down homie, it's not about all that bullsh*t...I got love for Boston, don't even go there. Do not go there, you went too far showing motherf*cking pistols..." (YouTube)

Young Buck Pumps G-Unit Beef W/ "Steroids" Diss, "You Eminem's Slave, Belong To Dre"

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Former G-Unit solider Young Buck continued his beef with 50 Cent's camp with the release of another hard hitting diss song called "Steroids."

While primarily focusing on 50, who he calls "Curtis," Buck also takes shots at Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo on the four-minute diss.

"I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, I know the G-Unit n*ggas is irrelevant and all y'all but some sh*t just gotta get handled," Buck said on the song's intro. "F*ck your contract n*gga...You told on Supreme and other n*ggas' connections -- Go ahead and f*ck [XXL Magazine Editor-In-Chief] Vanessa [Satten] to get the front cover/I'ma just address ya to get the front cover/Get Flex to fix another old school up/But if [Hot 97 director] Ebro find out, you're screwed up/My contract's f*cked up and yours is too, Curtis, for the next ten years you're Jimmy's wh*re dude/You Eminem's slave, belong to Dre/Think if they tried to hold your a** back to getting paid/What would you do, tell your sister Yayo that her career through?" ("Steroids")

On New Year's, Buck also dropped a diss track going at Fif's crew.

"I'm just saying, they asked for this sh*t, I ain't popping no bottles n*gga," Buck says on the song. "I just buried my best friend, it's f*ck everything/F*ck them G-Unit n*ggas and whatever you claim, you better bang/I feel no pain as I kill y'all -- 40 [Glocc] speaking on me, you don't know me homie/But I know Compton n*ggas that wanna do that for me/Go get Curtis now, tell him Buck said f*ck 'em because for the last two years this h*e ain't said nothing/I came from the dirt, I'm sh*tting on your label and p*ssing on your paperwork/Look b*tch you need this, here go some energy/Yayo you know you the biggest h*e in the industry/It's all over now, y'all better kill me/Yeah I been selling dope to feed my baby, feel me/Ain't no way in h*ll I'mma do this yearly/So I'mma start it off by saying 'Happy New Year'....You could give me ten million and I wouldn't come back/What the f*ck is 50 Cent is what Jimmy said/Look at yourself, even now digging up the dead/Get some help all you had left was one Buck/And you lost that and f*cked up, now it's 'Happy New Year.'" ("Happy New Year")

50 recently said he was preparing a visual for his Buck and Game diss track, "So Disrespectful."

"It'll be out, there'll be a visual for it," Fif promised in an interview. "The record is working by itself, that one, you know, it just plays with no assistance from the record company because people like it and took it and personally enjoy it. But I wrote that record about people I have had issues with that were pretty cool or at some point I felt they crossed me. You know, so I wrote those different things and it came out good. People enjoy it." (Big FM)

Despite their estranged relationship, 50 recently said Buck is still on the G-Unit Records roster.

"Buck is still signed to G-Unit Records, hopefully he can come up with a record. If he can come up with a song, we can get my money back, you know what I'm saying? I hope he can come up with something right quick. I'm looking forward to that check at least. They gotta pay me not to put the [G-Unit] logo on it." (This Is 50)

Royce Da 5'9 Checks Benzino, "I Wanna Know What Your Motherf*cking Problem Is" [Video]

Written by Biz Jones

Slaughterhouse's Royce Da 5'9 has responded to Benzino's recent taunts toward his crew and questioned what the rap veteran's true issues were.

While also taunting Zino, Royce explained how neither artist have had a face-to-face encounter.

And you talking about guns and stuff, silencers on guns, since we on a gun subject, let me show you this right here...Guns is a part of life, y'all n*ggas pop sh*t -- and then when it comes down to some real sh*t, some real n*gga sh*t, then it's a bunch of 'Oh, I'm not, I'm not.' You dry snitching, there's only one thing worse than a sntich and that's a dry snitch." (Halitosis 2K)

Previously, Crooked asked why Zino was trying to involve guns in their dispute.

"Benzino, yo, real talk, why?," he asked. "You talking too much homie, you doing too much. It's only a couple ways to get out of a beef, man, and you might as well squash this sh*t. Initially, Zino said problems erupted over a situation with Royce's manager.

"The whole thing with Slaughterhouse, I felt like the whole thing with Royce's manager, they didn't want to give [my publication] Hip Hop Weekly, the number one urban hip-hop magazine out there, [an interview] but it really wasn't no beef. He said a few things, I said a response. If it was beef now, you know how we doing it." (57th Ave)

Benzino Fires Back At Crooked I, "Suge Knight Left You Butt A** Naked" [Video]

Written by Biz Jones

Rap veteran Benzino has fired shots back at Slaughterhouse's Crooked I and warned the rapper of trying to silence his recent actions against the hip-hop group.

Speaking through a self-made video, Zino also mocked Crooked's past relationship with former record label owner Suge Knight.

Do not go there, you went too far showing motherf*cking pistols..." (YouTube)

Prior to that, Zino said problems erupted over a situation with Royce Da 5'9's manager.

"I just wanna clarify a few things, you know what I'm saying about this whole Royce Da 5'9 situation and the 'Break To Build' song with Raekwon," Zino says in a video recording. "I had a verse on the song, it's produced by myself -- I had a verse on the song, Rae said he liked the joint and did the second verse and the third verse I held over and he had nothing to do with it. It wasn't really a diss song in the first place because all I did was say a couple of things about Royce in the third verse, in the last two bars or so. But Rae ain't have nothing to do with it, I just wanted to clarify that. Shout-out to everybody over there at IceWater. And also, the whole thing with Slaughterhouse, I felt like the whole thing with Royce's manager, they didn't want to give [my publication] Hip Hop Weekly, the number one urban hip-hop magazine out there, [an interview] but it really wasn't no beef. He said a few things, I said a response. If it was beef now, you know how we doing it." (57th Ave)

Crooked I previously spoke on why he ignored Zino's past taunts.

"Some dudes I have respect for and some dudes I don't," he explained in an interview about rap beefs. "It's like me sitting back and watching Benzino say, 'I respect Crooked but Slaughterhouse is over-rated.' I'm Slaughterhouse. If you disrespect Slaughterhouse then you are disrespecting me. But what am I going to do? I am not going to waste my breath rapping a million bars about somebody. If I did that, I would put it on an album and get paid. I'm not going to air anybody out for free. All of these little beefs pop up and to me they are just silly. To me it's like, you do something to me when I'm on your Coast and I'll do something to you when you're on mine." (All Hip Hop)

Raekwon Narrows Date For Joint Album W/ Method Man & Ghostface Killah

Written by Rosario Harper

Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon has given the latest update on his delayed Method Man and Ghostface Killah joint album and said fans should prepare for its release early next year.

According to Raekwon, the long-awaited project is almost ready for retail release.

"Everything is a go from what I'm hearing," he said in an interview. "It's a record that's gonna come out on Def Jam so...I really don't have too much knowledge on it. I spoke to [Method Man] and he's telling me by the middle of February the album should be already solidified. So, that's what I'm hoping [is] gonna happen. We'll see what Def Jam [will] do. I'm just coming in as a piece on the board just to really go in and do what I gotta do. But we gon' see how they handle the business with that album...We still got more things that we wanna do. We ain't never wrapped. We gon' definitely make sure that we really give y'all a tight album, and [make sure that] everybody's opinions and criticisms account for this record." (Hip Hop DX)

Raekwon recently confirmed past reports of the project being delayed through 2010.

"We wanted that pushed back, I fought for that because I felt that it wasn't enough time, the chemistry is still boiling," Raekwon explained in an interview. "When you think about us putting something together, it's gotta be stupid so my brothers are respecting my feelings on it, I'm respecting their feelings on it, we all saying the same sh*t so. At the end of the day, when yall get the album, enjoy it and get ready for some other sh*t." (57th Ave)

Reports of the album being delayed spread online last month.

"[Redman's] Reggie Noble 9 1/2 and the forthcoming Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah´s album are moving to an early 2010 release date," she wrote in a statement. "Stay tuned for an announcement of the official release dates." Both projects were slated to arrive into retail stores next month with Wu arriving for the holiday shopping season on December 22nd, but will now be pushed back until next year. (Press Release)

From Wu-Tang frontman RZA's perspective, the threesome's group album is long overdue.

"I think it's a great idea," RZA said of Raekwon, Ghostface and Method Man teaming up. "I was pushing that idea to them years ago. Back in the day, we was gonna have a branch called 'The Brothers From the Grain' that was kinda those guys right there. I'm gonna see Meth tonight in the studio to see if I could add on something to that project. Add some depth to it. They are three of the most prolific voices in Wu-Tang...We're at a period of life, if anybody from Wu-Tang needs me, I'm there for them. Everybody has grown and matured to where we don't need each other." (MTV)

The new group album is slated to drop Tuesday, February 9th.

HiPNOTT Records Partner Mixtape Release With HipHopDX

by Edwin Ortiz

HiPNOTT Records, founded by blogger/music enthusiast Kevin Nottingham, will be releasing the first of its two-part mixtape series HiPNOTT Records 2010 Takeover on January 11.

2010 Takeover, co-sponsored by HipHopDX.com, features work from Nottingham’s artists as well as guest appearances from the independent scenes more prominent names. Murs, Illyas (of Tanya Morgan), Guilty Simpson and Kyle Lucas are all included on the project.

Describing the mixtape as reminiscent of a special era that influenced many of today’s acts, Nottingham explained to DX, “The Golden Era of Hip Hop was a time when Hip Hop felt good and people made Hip Hop music because they felt good about it... and it was reflected in its sound. A lot of people lump the Golden Era sound into 90’s boom bap, where in actuality, that was just one sound of many. Yeah, you had Gang Starr and A Tribe Called Quest, but you also had acts such as Naughty By Nature and Digital Underground who brought a fun, feel good vibe to Hip Hop. I would never compare any of my artists to these classic acts, but I will say that they each have the potential to reach their level of stardom."

Putting together the mixtape series over the course of three months, Nottingham added, “I came up with the idea with my HiPNOTT COO, Kareem Fort, who thought it would be a good idea to hit 2010 running with new music. We realized that when we announced the signing of Cymarshall Law and K. Sparks recently a lot of people were still unaware about the label. Hopefully after this year, people will see that we're serious about placing a footprint in Hip Hop.”

With part two of the series dropping in February, as well as projects from Cymarshall Law and K. Sparks and G.C. ready for release in the coming months, Kevin stated, “We have some great music lined up for the whole year at HiPNOTT Records with our current roster and we have a few deals in the works to sign on new acts. Just looking over our release schedule yesterday, I think we have enough music to put out one album per month for the whole year. And it's all quality music! Just as the mixtape name suggests... 2010 is the takeover!”

Pill Confirms Warner/Asylum Deal, Eyes Summer Release Date

by Omar Burgess

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, Karen Civil broke the news that Pill signed a deal with Warner/Asylum. Things had gone particularly well for the Atlanta native in 2009, after having his music embraced by such outlets as the Los Angeles Times, MTV and of course, HipHopDX. After a quick conversation with Pill and his manager Derek Schklar, HipHopDX has confirmed that the deal is official.

"I wanted to get with somebody who has a stronghold on urban radio and marketing," Pill explained. "They actually get it. You don't see many major labels that are able to bring out a new artist, put them in the public eye and keep them in the public eye."

So what was the deciding factor which caused Pill to join the Asylum family? Schklar said the indie powerhouse respected Pill and himself not only as artist and manager, but more importantly as businessmen.

"Most labels make you fend for yourself and they'll put you on the back burner, because they have some huge R&B singer on the label too," Pill added. "Nowadays you build your buzz, a label jumps behind you and you keep going. I just felt that they were the perfect situation for me to keep things going."

After shouting out Todd Moscowitz and Joey I.E., both Pill and Schklar revealed that the courtship from Asylum has been a lengthy one.

"They got at me first. [Asylum] hollered at me about 45 minutes after 'Trap Goin' Ham' hit the Internet. They been on me for a minute! They believed in me from day one, and we've just been back and forth since. I respected that. I'm gonna do me. [Derek] and I are gonna put our heads together, come up with a big plan and then let them do what they do best."

Timbaland Speaks on Relationship With Jay-Z

by Andres Tardio

Back when Jay-Z was prepping the release of The Blueprint 3, a few of the Timbaland produced tracks slated to be on the album were leaked. This caused a few people to whisper about the leaks and recently Timbo spoke on what those leaks did to his relationship with Jay-Z.

"Me and Jay is kinda weird," he told MTV. "Musically, I take friendship very serious. Me and Jay, sometimes people think we have falling-outs. We don't have falling-outs, it's that we don't communicate at the proper time. I take friendship very seriously. I wanna tell him how I might feel about a situation. The last time we talked, he understood how I felt. He saw my point with the Keri stuff being leaked out and everything. I had nothing to do with that. I would never do that to him. Nothing against his wishes. It bothered me so bad, I went on hiatus for a minute, because I would never disrespect his wishes. Like, 'I'm trying to do this with my album, please don't let that song get out or no leakage.' ... Four months later, the song is leaked. I felt so bad, because I would never want my friend to feel like we had some miscommunications."

He added that he thought someone may have been out to sabotage his friendship with Jay by leaking "Rumors," which the two worked together on.

"I felt like, 'What in the world? Who is trying to sabotage our friendship?' That bothers me. I respect my friends, because I don't got a lot of them, and he's one of my friends in the music industry. I felt like, 'I'll remove myself. If people wanna play us against each other, I'll bow out.' We talk about personal stuff. I don't want him to feel like he can't talk to me about certain things. We both said to [each other] one day, we know we don't need each other musically, but we are friends. I'm like, 'I hope you realize that. But I want you to realize that me and you are like Dre and Snoop.' Sometimes I don't think he understands that. When we get together, we do make magic."

Crooked I Warns Benzino: "Calm Down."

by Andres Tardio

Recently, Benzino put out a video dis of a track directed towards Royce Da 5'9". Wasting little time, Crooked I has now released his reaction to the feud in video form.

"You're talking too much, homie. You're doing too much. There's only a couple ways to get out of a beef. You might as well squash this shit," he says in the video.

He also sheds light on what may have started the beef.

"I know you was mad because [Slaughterhouse] didn't do the motherfucking interview with your magazine. But, that was some other shit. You know what that was about. You shouldn't have even spoke on it or caught feelings, nigga. If you're a real gangster, you don't catch feelings over that shit. You're thinking with your emotions right now."

Reacting to guns in Benzino's video, he says there was no need for that.

"Calm down, homie. It's not about all that bullshit...I got love for Boston. Don't go there, man. You went too far showing motherfucking pistols and all that type of shit. That shit's not gangster. That shit is called incriminating yourself. That shit is not gangster."

Adding a warning of sorts, he also calls for an end to the feud.

"If you respect me, nigga, you will stop all that. If you don't respect me, it's going to go where it gotta go...My nigga Nickel, that's my nigga and I'm not going to let no nigga talk foul about my nigga, ever."

"It's not going to be pretty, homie. It's goin' to be ugly...It's not worth it...You know me. I know you...Fuck that shit. Don't let the internet get you caught up in some shit. You don't have no problem with Slaughterhouse, nigga. Slaughterhouse ain't ever did nothing to you. You have no problems with Slaughterhouse. Do you. We'll do us. That's it."

Adding more about the origin of the feud, he brings up the interview again.

"You already know the politics behind the reason why the Slaughterhouse interview didn't go down on your motherfucking magazine. You know all that, dog. Just keep that shit like it's supposed to be...You know what I'm talking about homie."

Shyheim Talks "Disrespectfully Speaking," Bottom Up Records

by Sean Ryon

From Kriss Kross to Lil Romeo, child rappers have long been perceived more as marketing schemes than bona fide artists. Yet even the harshest of critics can’t deny the level of artistry displayed by Hip Hop child prodigy and former Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Shyheim. Now, 16 years since debut on 1993's “On and On” at the age of 14, Shyheim is still hard at work rocking the mic. He released his fifth solo album, Disrespectfully Speaking, this past October on his label Bottom Up Records and is planning for two more releases in 2010. Shyheim spoke to HipHopDX about how he has grown as an artist and what it means for his career.

“I just grow with my music,” explained Shyheim. “Everyday is life with my shit and I think that’s what my music different from that of every other artist out there. I grew up in Hip Hop. Everything that was recorded from when I was a child until now, it was my life. It wasn’t a marketing scheme. It wasn’t something created like someone going over and saying, ‘Yo, let’s make these type of records’ when I don’t make those types of records. If I had a marketing scheme and did that and sat down and made records, then I’d probably be triple platinum. But then again, I’d be sacrificing what’s real to me.”

Shyheim touched on one of the most personal tracks featured on Disrespectfully Speaking called “Pain.” The song finds the Staten Island emcee tackling the subject of his late mother’s drug addiction. Shyheim explained the therapeutic elements of writing such a highly personal song and how his music acts as a sobering reality to the glitz and glam of most modern Hip-Hop.

“[Songs like 'Pain' are] my therapy,” he said. “I’ll be honest, I lost my mom on July 7…from an overdose. It’s like I just take the cards that were dealt to me and by me saying lines like, ‘I’m looking in my mother’s face/Seeing drugs eat her away,’ I felt that way. I watched drugs eat her away. I watched it…she was sitting like ‘Yo, I want a sandwich,’ but I know what she was going to buy. But I still had to give it to here because I couldn’t ever see my mother working for nothing.”

He later added, “I think a lot of artists nowadays get caught up, and I think what I see as an artist and [how] I keep it so real…reminds [people] of what’s really going on. So a lot of people get in the smoke and the clouds of illusion of, ‘Yeah, yeah, I got this, I got that,’ and you may want that and get caught up in that illusion, but when you wake up, it’s what it is. That’s why people drink and smoke weed and dust and shit, that’s how they escape. My music is not the escape drug. My music is rehab, we’re going to talk about this shit.”

The Rugged Manchild also discussed his transition from strictly being an artist to becoming the head of his own independent label Bottom Up Records. He says that his experience in the industry with the Wu-Tang Clan primed him for taking on such a role and has shown him the best way to handle a roster of up-and-coming artists.

“I’ve seen the bullshit and I’ve seen many labels like Bottom Up before me come and fall apart and I asked myself a question: why is that?” said Shyheim. “Why is it that I’ve seen Wu-Tang, I’ve seen Roc-a-Fella beefing, I’ve seen Dipset [break up], I’ve seen many crews [fall apart] after getting money? Why is that? And ultimately, I always hear that ‘Oh, I wasn’t getting me money, this person wasn’t doing this for me, he wasn’t doing that for me’…[what] I have to…basically have is independent contract[s], so any artist on Bottom Up is an independent contractor. As they come to Bottom Up and they do music and do music videos, I may put out their album. But if they don’t continue walk and pursue their own career, and watch my steps and learn from me and take the knowledge to go on, it’s not my fault. It’s their fault. I’m not locking them into [a place] where they can’t do what they need to do.”

With two albums slated for release in 2010, Shyheim doesn’t appear to be letting the industry or the economy keep him down. He spoke on the as-of-yet untitled projects and how he hopes to build a legacy through them not just for himself, but also for his Staten Island brethren.

“This album is going to be more transitionary,” he explained. “I think it’s time that I give people 100% of me…just making quality music. You might hear some shit that may be club-going. You may hear some deep shit, but I’m going to give it 100% Shy. And then the next quarter [in] June, there will be another Bottom Up album where I feature…all the talent that is coming from Staten Island…[they] are all independent artists from Staten Island that I’m trying to teach ownership…so [they] can have longevity and a legacy because if I don’t pass the torch, who’s going to keep it alive?”
