Lending a hand to the relief efforts in Haiti, The Hip Hop Caucus has created a new website (hiphophelphaiti.org) for the public to visit that gives information on ways to contribute to the cause through local organizations and events.
Along with the site, which is updated on a daily basis, The Hip Hop Caucus will also be holding a national conference call later tonight to discuss ways of continuing relief efforts. Participants in the conference call include President Obama administrative members, rappers David Banner and MC Lyte, as well as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Congresswoman Barbara Lee.
“We are all deeply saddened by the destruction and tragic deaths that have resulted from the earthquake in Haiti,” explained Reverend Lennox Yearwood, Jr., President and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus. “[We are] committed to encouraging the public to support the Haitian people by donating to the relief effort.”
Doing their part to raise awareness, Yearwood continued, “Our goal with the national conference call, and launch of ‘HipHopHelpHaiti.org’, is to pull together an infrastructure for the Hip Hop community to stay supportive, engaged, and organized around what will be a long struggle for the Haitian people to recover.”
The conference call will take place tonight at 9:00 p.m. (EST). The public can join the conference call by registering at hiphophelphaiti.org.
