Mellow Music Group "Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows" Release Date, Cover Art & Tracklist

by Soren Baker

Mellow Music Group's forthcoming "Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows" features Mr. Lif, Has-Lo and Quelle Chris, among others.
Mellow Music Group's Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows project is slated to be released January 28 via Mello Music Group. The 20-cut collection is slated to feature appearances from Mr. Lif, Has-Lo, Oddisee and Quelle Chris. The set is scheduled to feature production from L’Orange, Has-Lo and Quelle Chris, among others.
Earlier this week, Oddisee released the song “Invisible Walls,” which is set to be the first song on Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows.
“Invisible Walls" is available for download and stream.

In a 2008 interview with HipHopDX, Oddisee discussed his early material. "I hit a lot of road bumps as far as people not realizing the amount of work that I'm doing, and that I'm an emcee/producer,” he said. "For all the stuff that I’ve done, there’s still a lot of people that don’t know me. People that do know me, I say a large portion of them think that all I do is emcee, or that all I do is produce. So again, I'm trying to centralize my fan base. When Foot In The Door came out, it was pretty heavily bootlegged. And it was frustrating, because people would get the credits wrong. I would see one song on a blog on Bulgaria, saying, 'Produced by Oddisee,' and that would be it, but it’s me rhyming on it. Then I see my stuff on a blog in Brazil, and it would say, 'Featuring Oddisee,’ but it wouldn’t have any production credits. People have no idea what they’re listening to. All they know is that it came from Foot In The Door."
The Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows cover art and tracklist are as follows:
1. “Invisible Walls” f/ Oddisee (produced by Oddisee)
2. “The Lost Nova” f. Mr. Lif & John Robinson (Produced by L’Orange)
3. “Hard Writer” f. Has-Lo (Produced by Has-Lo)
4. “Lost Children” f/ Georgia Anne Muldrow (Produced by Duke Westlake)
5. “Euclidian Geometry” Instrumental (Produced by Quelle Chris)
6. “Supreme Codeine” f. Miz Korona, Quelle Chris, T. Calmese & Nick Speed (Produced by Quelle Chris)
7. “A History Of Modern Dance” f. Open Mike Eagle (Produced by Jeremiah Jae)
8. “King O.A.T.” f. yU, Tim Hicks & Charlie Ross (Produced by yU)
9. “You Are Safe Now” f. Milo (Produced by L’Orange)
10. “Family Room” f. Castle (Produced by Castle)
11. “Nothing Has A Never” f. Oddisee (Produced by Oddisee)
12. “Juggernaut” f. Has-Lo (Produced by Has-Lo)
13. “Crazy High” Instrumental (Produced by Oddisee)
14. “L.I.V.E.” f. Akil The MC (Produced by Duke Westlake)

Madchild Says Dizaster Battle Would Be "The Ultimate Test"

by Andres Tardio

Madchild Says Dizaster Battle Would Be "The Ultimate Test"
Madchild also says that he is not a battle rapper, but that he might be able to surprise Battle Rap fans.
Madchild, who has participated in a King of the Dot Battle Rap event, recently spoke about who he would want to face in a future face-off.

"I could step up to the challenge and battle Dizaster," Madchild said during an interview with Montreality. "I believe I could. I'm not calling him out or anything like that, but I think that would put me to the ultimate test because he's a fierce lyricist. I'm a fierce lyricist. I'm not a battle rapper, but if I battled a few more people, I do believe that I could get to the point where I could battle him and surprise everybody."

In August 2012, Madchild spoke with HipHopDX about Battle Rap and why he decided to participate in a match-up for King of the Dot, one that paired him against San Jose, California Battle Rap emcee/talk show host Dirtbag Dan.

"I thought it was a cool thing that was going on," Madchild said. "I thought with some of the things in Hip Hop that are watered-down and manufactured, I thought this was a real incredible thing that was bringing some purity back to our culture. When you look at the culture of Hip Hop, it’s important to preserve the culture as much as it’s important to progress in the culture. I was impressed when I started watching these battle raps. I was impressed how many people were interested in it. I was impressed with how talented some of these emcees were, even though they weren’t recording artists, some of these guys’ wordplay is fierce. There are some fierce lyricists out there. I was like, this is a real dope movement and I hadn’t seen at that time, any artist that had sold a number of records, enter it. When I talked to [King Of The Dot’s] Organik, when we met, he was like, 'Basically, Madchild, you’d be the first one that sold 800,000 records in your career to enter a battle like this.' I wa.....

Rolling Stone Names Its 20 Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2013

by Soren Baker

"Yeezus" & "Nothing Was The Same" Named Rolling Stone's Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2013.
Rolling Stone has named its “20 Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2013.” Kanye West’s Yeezus earned the #1 spot, while Drake’s Nothing Was The Same landed at #2.
"Kanye's electro masterpiece is his most extreme album ever, which is saying something,” Rolling Stone says in its Yeezus blurb. "No wonder the late, great Lou Reed embraced Yeezus, since it's basically the Metal Machine Music concept translated into futuristic Hip Hop, all industrial overload and hypertense egomania and hostile vibes.”
The article compares Yeezus to Nothing Was The Same. "With Kanye breathing fire in rarified air, Drake is the people's rapper, a smart kid conflicted about his fame, heart, family, everything except his mic potency,” Rolling Stone says. "But what makes his lonely fantastic voyage matter is its emotional weight, which gets crucial amplification from Noah ’40' Shebib's whirlpool beats.”
Danny Brown’s Old album was the #3 album on the list, while Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 landed at #4. Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap earned the #5 spot. "The second mixtape from this 20-year-old Chicago MC is the ultimate in psychedelic Hip Hop,” Rolling Stone says. "Chance spins Lil Wayne-meets-Hendrix language swirls punctuated by the real-life observations of a kid who grew up in a world where 'it's dark a lot . . . easier to find a gun than it is to find a fucking parking spot.”
Rolling Stone's “20 Best Hip Hop Albums Of 2013” is as follows:
1. Yeezus, Kanye West
2. Nothing Was The Same, Drake
3. Old, Danny Brown
4. The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Eminem
5. Acid Rap, Chance the Rapper
6. My Name Is My Name, Pusha T
7. Born Sinner, J. Cole
8. Doris, Earl Sweatshirt
9. Trap Lord, A$AP Ferg
10. Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay Z
11. B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, 2 Chainz

Sean Price & M-Phazes "Land of the Crooks" Cover Art, Tracklist & EP Stream

by Soren Baker

Sean Price & M-Phazes "Land of the Crooks" Cover Art, Tracklist & EP Stream
Sean Price & M-Phazes release their "Land of the Crooks" EP, which features guest appearances from Roc Marciano and Billy Danze, among others.
Sean Price & M-Phazes released their Land of the Crooks EP today (December 17). The 11-cut collection features guest appearances from Billy Danze, Roc Marciano and Guilty Simpson, among others.
The EP features instrumental versions of each track.
Land of the Crooks is available at digital retailers for $5.99, and can also be purchased on CD as part of a double disc set with Guilty Simpson & Small Professor’s Highway Robbery LP via Fat Beats, as per a press release.
The EP’s artwork was inspired by the 1986 movie”Crocodile" Dundee. "The idea of doing a spin off ‘Crocodile' Dundee was a concept that came to mind the moment I thought of putting out this project,” Matt Diamond, founder of Coalmine Records, which released Land of the Crooks, says on the imprint’s website. "The movie definitely appeals to the generation of fans that would appreciate a Sean Price x M-Phazes collab. That movie poster was iconic, so to it see it translate with both P and Phazes represented on the cover is pretty dope, and hilarious. I wanted the image to maintain a certain sense of geographical identity, which explains why P’s holding back project tenements that you’d find in Brownseville, while Phazes is pushing aside the Sydney Opera House. I also advised the designer to add Gorilla’s and Kangaroos to run hog wild in the street, to replace the cars and cabs from the original poster, which adds to the lawlessness that you’d suspect when you’d combine both artists."
The "Crocodile" Dundee poster is as follows.
Sean Price released his Mic Tyson album in 2012.
M-Phazes is an Australian producer who first listened to Rap when he was 11 or 12. "I got into Public EnemyA Tribe Called QuestDe La Soul and N.W.A,” he said during at 2012 interview with HipHopDX. "I guess after about a month of listening to Hip Hop, I started banging on the table and mumbling little raps and shit. But I always had a thing for the beats. That's what attracted me to Hip Hop. So after messing around with the tape-deck, looping and dubbing little raps through headphones, my mum bought me a computer and I had some bullshit software. But I learned it and fell in love with beatmaking. I eventually gave up the rapping and decided to pursue production exclusively."
The Land of the Crooks cover art, tracklist and stream are as follows:
01. "Bag of Shit" f. Loudmouf Choir
02. "Dump In The Gut"
03. "Land of the Crooks" f. Billy Danze, Maffew Ragazino & DJ Babu
04. "Murdah Type Thinkin" f. Roc Marciano
05. "Murdah Type Thinkin" f. Guilty Simpson (Small Professor Remix)
06. "Bag of Shit" (Instrumental)
07. "Dump In The Gut" (Instrumental)
08. "Land of the Crooks" (Instrumental)
09. "Murdah Type Thinkin" (Instrumental)
10. "Murdah Type Thinkin" (Small Professor Remix) (Instrumental)

Mobb Deep Announce World Tour & Details On New Album

by Yohance Kyles
Mobb Deep
Mobb Deep is back. The Queens duo stopped by HuffPost Live to announce they are dropping their reunion album next year in the run-up to the 20th anniversary celebration of their classic album The Infamous. Prodigy and Havoc will also go out on a world tour to support the new project.
The two emcees spoke with Marc Lamont Hill about their upcoming project, revealing the album packaging will contain 10 unreleased songs featuring Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Ghostface, and Nas verses from The Infamous recording sessions.

During the interview, Mobb Deep also praised the way Beyoncé released her latest album, called Lil Kim a legend, and touched on their brief falling out. Havoc said the statements he made about P being gay that set off the public beef were not true and were tweeted out of anger.

“I got mad at my partner and he handled it like a chief. We squashed it,” said Havoc. “I went crazy for a moment. I didn’t mean it, cause that’s my brother.”
“Time heals all wounds. Hav is my brother,” adds Prodigy. “We’ve been through worse. Real life and death situations, so Mobb Deep is forever.”

Mobb Deep plan to release their new album around March 2014 and a documentary in the next year as well.

The Street On Beastie Boy’s “Paul’s Boutique” Cover Could Become “Beastie Boys Square”

by Keith Nelson Jr

Beastie Boys
McCarthy’s campaign to rename the intersection of Ludlow and Rivington streets in New York City’s Lower East Side neighborhood to Beastie Boys Square is his latest after Brooklyn Community Board 2 rejected his request to have St James Place and Fulton Street co-named Christopher  Wallace. McCarthy wants to have one street dedicated to Hip Hop in each of New York City’s five boroughs due to the genre’s lasting impact on the city:
Over the course of 40 years, hip-hop has contributed to the economy, to fashion, tourism, race relations and New York City had projected this onto the world. Where is the recognition from New York City? Has there been any? I don’t see that.
While Christopher Wallace Way was rejected due to the Notorious B.I.G.’s criminal past and vulgar lyrics, The Beastie Boys’ reverence in the area could help their cause. On the famous intersection now is wrap joint Wolfnights and its general manager Vicky Dalva expressed the continued support for The Beastie Boys in the area:
When Adam Yauch passed away, people came here for three or four days putting candles and flowers out, taking photos, really mourning his death. At least one person comes in each week asking if it’s Paul’s Boutique.
This past May, a small park near the Brooklyn childhood home of late Beastie Boys’ member Adam “MCA” Yauch was named “Adam Yauch Park”, a year following his death.

Kid Capri Says Battle Rappers Can Make Good Songs

by Andres Tardio

Kid Capri also says he is slated to release a mixtape featuring top-tier battlers.
\
Kid Capri is set to release a mixtape featuring battle rappers, according to the deejay.
"Yeah, it’s coming out real good," Capri said in an interview with xxlmag.com. "I am doing all the beats on there. I just wanted to go and get all the battle rappers. I shot a battle rappers joint three years ago with Loaded Lux, before I even knew it was going to be a big deal. It happened to be big. Now, this is where we at. So I wanted to get all the battle rappers. The top-tier battle rappers and put them on my beats just to show the world that the battle rappers can make good records instead of getting that stigma that they can’t. A lot of battle rappers can make records, such as Meek Mill, KRS-One. They did it, so it’s only right we show them what they can do."

In May, Loaded Lux, who is known for battling, among other things, spoke with HipHopDX about criticism that battle rappers can't create worthwhile music. Lux said he does not shy away from the "battle rapper" label, but instead embraces it.

"The beauty of life is you can always change things," he said of the criticism regarding battle rappers. "It’s always forever changing. With me, as far as I’m concerned, I embrace all that I am, all that I do because it is me. You can’t just take one aspect of me. You’ve got to take it all. I ain’t got no problem with that. These are things that I’ve achieved, and these is my accolades. Yeah, I battle rap. You can put me in that category, if you want. There’s more to me than that. Like me or love me for whatever it is, but at the end of the day, they sayin’ something and they sayin’ something from the essence. I’ll never deny that, dispute that or try to be something other than myself."

Capri has not confirmed names of battle rappers set to appear on his upcoming project.

Hip-Hop Stays Alive! L.A.’s 93.5 KDAY Sold To Meruelo Media

by timsanchez818

KDAYLogoContacts
The good news for Hip-Hop fans is that the new owners plan to keep the station in its current format and also plan to invest in to its expansion, which could also mean a stronger signal – a longtime complaint of those in the L.A. area. The station was previously in a purchasing agreement with RBC Communications, who were planning on changing the station’s format to an all Chinese Mandarin format, however that deal fell through several months back.

93.5 KDAY is unique in the sense that they allow longtime fans of Hip-Hop to enjoy the music and the hits they grew up with which can no longer be heard on the radio, an outlet that tends to only focus on what’s current. It also gives a boost to artists who have catalogs of music in reaching audiences that were too young to remember their initial releases.

AllHipHop.com would like to congratulate the staff of 93.5 KDAY and the new owners for doing their part in keeping Hip-Hop alive in the radio market. We also have exclusive interviews coming up with KDAY radio personalities DJ Brandi Garcia, Class1c and DJ Dense – so stay tuned for that!

God bless you, but just remember the people that got you to this point were hosed, beaten, lynched, castrated, and set a blaze. Nothing, with the exception of the Jewish Holocaust, surpasses the Black struggle.” “This Hip Hop s**t was made by masculine Black and Latino males. This is the alpha male s**t,” adds Jamar. “Not even the beta male, who they’re pushing at us now. Your Drakes, and your f**king Kendrick Lamars and all these softer type of dudes.” According to Jamar, Drake would not have been as successful if he had started his career in the 1980′s and 1990′s. He acknowledges Drake can rap, but his tendency to sing would not have been appealing to Hip Hop fans of the era. The conversation then turns to some of the Hip Hop acts from that time that did break out like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. Jamar contends that it was the music from those 80′s/90′s rap groups that paved the way for artists like Drake. “That was an introduction to a more a nicer- that pulled a lot more white people in,” says Jamar. “They were the forefathers for a lot of these rappers now.” When Vlad specifically asked if De La Soul were the forefathers to Drake, both Jamar and Star answered yes. “A Tribe Called Quest too,” said Jamar. allhiphop.com

U-God Says Only Reason Southern Rappers Are Popping Is Because They’ll Sign Anything

by Yohance Kyles U-God recently spoke with Montreality about numerous topics including his childhood, upcoming projects, and his favorite cartoon character. Ultimately, the conversation turned to Trinidad James’ recent comments about the South running New York, and Universal God had a lot to say about it referring to Trinidad directly. “Trinidad James ain’t talking to me about that s**t,” said the Wu-Tang Clan member. “You better listen to my sh*t n***a.” The life long NYC resident then goes on to share his view on why southern rappers have been so successful over the last several years. U God says it is because rappers from the south are more willingly to sign contracts that New Yorkers would not: Only reason why n***as is popping, them down south n***as sign any goddamn thing. New York dudes, the one time we was rocking, we don’t go for all that. We want our [publishing]. We want all our s**t. So that s**t traveled down south. So dudes started going down there with that bulls**t. But, I like the music personally. I ain’t getting caught up in what dudes be saying, but Trinidad James can knock it off with all that bulls**t. He ain’t saying nothing. N***a signed his life away. He getting 360 deals. Watch U-God’s full interview below and fast forward to 7:15 mark to hear his comments on Trinidad James and southern rappers. allhiphop.com

SPIN Names Its "Rapper Of The Year"

by Andres Tardio

SPIN names Chance The Rapper its "Rapper of the Year."
SPIN has named Chance The Rapper its "Rapper of the Year."
The publication announced that Chance it considered its "rapper of the year" due to his work on Acid Rap, a project that also nabbed the #2 spot in SPIN's "Album of the Year" list, falling behind Kanye West's Yeezus.

"[Acid Rap] is an impressive, arresting display of furious styles, but it's also a well-observed and deeply empathetic album about growing up and trying to be decent — a good kid in a mad Midwestern city — whose songs inhabit a series of lost and half-found characters: wounded addicts, lusted-over high-school lab-mates, feckless dealers, a sweetheart dad, and young couples in love," SPIN says of Chance's 2013 project.

"There's nothing wrong with being a rapper in 2013," Spin adds. "But Chance, well, he's a rapper and he wants you to know it. Scratch that: He's the rapper."
SPIN names honorable mentions who ranked behind Chance. Kendrick Lamar earned a nod for his "Control" verse and Eminem was named for his The Marshall Mathers LP 2 work.

Elsewhere, SPIN also gave consideration to Vic Mensa, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Big Sean, Wale and J. Cole, among others.
"We could use more J Cole and Wale types in the mainstream, for sure," SPIN says.
In May, HipHopDX reviewed Chance's Acid Rap giving it the highest possible praise for a mixtape.

"With Acid Rap, Chance The Rapper does more than simply entertain with poetic quips and a vibrant personality; he sparks a conversation that keeps the listener committed from start to finish," HipHopDX said in its review of the project. "It’s this steadfast conviction that separates him from the current pack of talented yet indistinct peers, and at 20 years old, the Windy City representer should have little trouble building upon what looks to be a breakthrough moment with his latest project."

Chance The Rapper's upcoming Justin Bieber collaboration is slated to be released at midnight. The track was announced earlier this week via Twitter.

DJ Quik Details His Next Album's Sound

by Andres Tardio

DJ Quik also says he wants to sound "youthful" and "naive."
DJ Quik is prepping work for his next full-length album and he recently spoke about the mentality that he is set to take on with the project.
"I just got a budget opened for me for my ninth album, my ninth studio album," DJ Quik said during an interview on Extended Play. "I'm channeling DJ Quik from 1989. I'm sampling my old shit and thinking like the old DJ Quik from 1989. I'm biting me from then. I won't be impressed until I sound as youthful and naive as I used to. I don't want the smarts anymore. Smarts don't really work. Smarts are boring. In music, sometimes, you just gotta throw caution to the wind, say, 'What the fuck,' and do what you feel."

During a recent interview with HipHopDX, DJ Quik confirmed rumors of his upcoming retirement.

"My voice is going out," Quik said. "This is my last year. I’ve toured for three…four years straight to get to this point. And now I got my son here, and that mothafucka gonna take over. I don’t need no Grammy. I don’t need no American Music Award, because I helped invent that shit. If anything, when I die, posthumously raise $30,000 and pay for the mothafuckas to vote to get me a key and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I’m good, and I don’t need nothing else. DJ Quik is a beast. I’m the best. I’m smart, I’m fly, and I’m cute. I wear Yves Saint Laurent cologne and shit that people can’t even pronounce. I don’t play with these mothafuckas."

Logic Says Upcoming Album Will Be More Personal

by Andres Tardio
Logic Says Upcoming Album Will Be More Personal
Logic speaks about "Like Me" and how his true self will shine on his upcoming project.
Logic recently released "Like Me," a selection that he feels is an important piece for his fans.
"This record actually has a lot of significance as far as lyrically," Logic said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. "This is one of the first songs where I really...In my career, my fans know [me], definitely, without a doubt with records like, 'Dear God' or 'Dead Presidents III,' where I have delved into who I am as a person and the things that I've gone through. However, I have never truly brought you into the world of like Bobby, the person. Kind of been a lot about Logic."

"I feel like with rappers and mixtapes, its kind of like, we rap and we show our worth," Logic continued. "So it's like, 'I'm this good because I can rap like this, check out this style, check out this, that.' That's kind of what we do [with] mixtapes, to be honest. But with the album, it is totally different. I want this to be why my fans are my fans. I want them to get to truly know me. You can hear it in Kendrick's mixtapes, you know, kind of being the best and you can hear it in Cole, just them rapping, but there are some really incredible songs that they have of great meaning and who they are, but I feel like in their album, that's where we really got to know who they were, not only as rappers, musicians and artists, but as people."

Logic's "Like Me," also discusses the importance of knowledge of industry within the record business. For the emcee, this was also an important topic to cover.
"Just off the break you hear me talking about quotas and, 'Yeah, you've got a deal,' but do you even know how much your deal is really for, what you walked away with, what's going to go into your recording budget, what's going into your promotional budget, publicity and all these different things painting the picture of where I am now," Logic said.

Logic's "Like Me" is also a sign of things to come, Logic says.
"That's what I am also going to be doing for the length of the album, just giving a really vivid picture of who I am and where I am and where I am going," Logic said.

Murs Launches Murs 316 Label & Debuts "S.O.S." Video

by Soren Baker
Murs Launches Murs 316 Label & Debuts "S.O.S." Video
Murs explains the business of his new Murs 316 imprint, which will release albums from Kosha Dillz, Jabee, Marley B, Cash Lansky, MC Optimal and Reverie.
After building a career for himself as an artist and as a businessman through his Paid Dues festival, Murs says that he was regularly being solicited for advice and guest appearances from aspiring rappers. Thus, the rapper decided to launch Murs 316, a label where he could work with artists and help jumpstart their careers. The imprint is scheduled to release albums from Kosha Dillz, Jabee, Marley B, Cash Lansky, MC Optimal and Reverie by March.

“I wanted to create a platform for hard-working musicians with good hearts,” Murs says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “All the artists I have lined up are good people who want to see their dream manifest and I’m trying to help them do that. I feel like I do have a lot of knowledge and wisdom to impart to other emcees. It’s a platform where I can do all of those things, do features for artists, help them out, give them advice, put them on some shows with me and help out people I felt had a similar work ethic.”

Murs is not operating his label, which is named after Murs’ first collaborative album with 9th Wonder and is also the same company that puts on Paid Dues and will be releasing Murs’ debut feature film, in typical record company fashion. Murs 316 is a one-off label that does not give advances and that will not be signing artists to long-term deals. The company partners with an artist on one project and will share ownership of the masters in perpetuity with each artist on its respective project.
Murs 316 has released Kosha Dillz’s Awkward In A Good Way album. Its next release is Jabee’s Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt, which is due in stores December 17. DJ Fresh presents Marley B & Cash Lansky’s The GLDN TCKT is slated for a January 7 release and Foudation presents MC Optimal is scheduled for a February 4 drop date. Reverie and Louden have the final release of Murs 316’s first wave of releases. Their project is due March 4.

Murs set up a SoundCloud page for his imprint. It features a Murs 316 Mix Tape sampler with two songs from each act on the imprint, as well as the posse cut “S.O.S.,” an acronym for “Scrap On Sight.” The song’s video was filmed at the Beach Hut Deli in Reno, Nevada and is premiering on HipHopDX.

The release of Reverie and Louden's album will mark the end of what Murs is calling Season #1 of Murs 316. Season #2 is slated to begin in April with another handful of artists who will be featured on a sampler on the Murs 316 SoundCloud page and who will record a posse cut a la “S.O.S.”  Murs 316 also plans to release an album per month from its second batch of artists.

Murs says that he’s being upfront with the artists he’s working with on Murs 316 about his company’s relationship with them.

“I always promote the label as, ‘This is not a crew. This is a business,’ because so many people get so involved in, ‘This is my crew. This is my family,’” Murs says. “I just think that is so much bullshit. I have a family and I have a set of friends. We’re all together because we want to make a career out of music, so as long as we stay focused on that, it’ll keep a lot of the feelings, a lot of the bullshit, out.”

Lil' Kim Says She's The Queen Of Hip Hop

by Andres Tardio

Lil' Kim also says she will die with the crown on her head.
Lil' Kim, who is preparing the release of Hard Core 2K13recently spoke about her place in Hip Hop history.
When asked about where she sees herself stand in Hip Hop, Lil' Kim explained her position.
"I am definitely the queen," Kim said in an interview with xxlmag.com. "I definitely see myself as the queen. I am the one who made it possible for females to be sexy. That’s just the bottom line. And [I] still rap hard with the fellas.
"There’s nothing that’s gonna take away from my legacy," Kim added later. "I’m sorry. It is what it is. I’m dying this way. With the crown on my head. Nobody can take nothing away from me."
During the interview, Kim also talks about why she thinks she was able to succeed.
"The one thing that made me so great before is I just did what the fuck I do," she said. "I didn’t care how I did it. I did it for my fans at the same time, but I also did it for me. That’s what my fans love because I did me. I told them the story about me and my life. I made sexual music that was fun and just people loved to sing to."
Lil' Kim has often referred to herself as a queen. In her 1996 debut album Hard Core, Kim had a track titled "Queen Bitch." Kim's 2002 project The Notorious K.I.M. also featured a selection titled "Queen Bitch Pt. 2."
Lil' Kim has also often called herself the Queen Bee or Queen B.
Queen Latifah recently said that women in Hip Hop have not topped the era where Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown and other women were at the top of the Rap sphere.
“I still think some of the best ones that have done it have yet to be topped. I still don’t think anybody has topped the whole era of Foxy, Kim, Missy, Eve, me on the tail end kinda things,” Latifah said in September on "The Rickey Smiley Show." “I’m still looking forward to it not just being a one-at-a-time female rapper thing. I mean, I think Nicki Minaj is great, but I think we definitely need to blow up some of the other females that are out there.”
