Joell Ortiz, Sheek Louch, Strong Arm Steady Get Album Release Dates

by Jake Paine

Joell Ortiz' "Free Agent" joins the melee of releases for next month, as E1 says it's coming November 30.

After nearly six months of delays, Brooklyn emcee and Slaughterhouse member Joell Ortiz' sophomore album, Free Agent is now expected for release on November 9. Online retailers, including CDUniverse.com, have posted this date to an album that was originally scheduled for spring release.

Free Agent has been previously reported to feature production from DJ Premier, DJ Khalil, Lil Fame and others, with vocal guests ranging from Talib Kweli and Brother Ali to Bun B and The L.O.X.

Last week, Ortiz released a free EP, Farewell Summer .

Speaking of The L.O.X., Sheek Louch's Donny G reportedly has plans for a December 7 release, says RapRadar.com. This will be the Yonkers emcee's first venture with Def Jam Records, after joining bandmate Jadakiss there earlier this year.

Los Angeles/San Diego, California trio Strong Arm Steady is readying their major label debut. Krondon, Phil Da Agony and Mitchy Slick have been signed to Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Music for over three years, and after many delays, Arms & Hammers is reportedly planned for February 1, 2011.

Earlier this year, Krondon and Phil teamed with acclaimed Oxnard, California producer Madlib to release In Search of Stoney Jackson on Stones Throw Records. (September 18)

UPDATE: E1 Entertainment has just stated that Joell Ortiz' Free Agent is officially planned for November 30 release.

Tracklisting Revealed To AZ's "Doe Or Die: 15th Anniversary Edition"

by Jake Paine

Classic records like "Sugar Hill" and "Rather Unique" will re-surface next month, along with the show-stopping "Feel My Pain" and "Nothing Move."

As initially revealed to HipHopDX in September, veteran Brooklyn, New York emcee AZ is releasing a 15th Anniversary Edition of his acclaimed debut, Doe Or Die. Now planned for release on November 23, the re-release of the EMI Records original will feature new songs, as well as re-interpolated versions of tracks from the original 1995 album that prompted hits such as "Sugar Hill" and "Rather Unique."

The tracklisting has revealed to said album, including both hits produced by L.E.S. and Pete Rock respectively. New songs, such as "I'm Ill," "Feel My Pain" and "Nothing Move" have all made the new edition, among others.

AZ explained his vision last month to HipHopDX, "What it would be is I’ll take like the best six [songs] off of Doe Or Die and remix [those], and then add, like I said, four other [new] joints too it - just to give ‘em something new. I didn’t wanna do the whole Doe Or Die album [over], but I picked the best ones, from 'Sugar Hill' to 'Gimme Yours,' 'Rather Unique,' 'Ho Happy Jackie,' the [title-track]. And then added the rest [of the] brand new songs, just to give the new fans of today a taste of what’s going on."

The tracklisting to Doe Or Die: 15th Anniversary Edition is as follows:

1. Intro (15 Years)
2. Rather Unique
3. Feel My Pain
4. Give Me (What You Can't Get Back)
5. Nothing Move
6. Mo Money, Mo Murder
7. The Wake
8. Your World Don't Stop
9. I'm Ill
10. Sugar Hill

In related news, it was announced yesterday that AZ will also be teaming with Statik Selektah for a full-length, while the rapper reportedly still shops for a label home for Doe Or Die 2.

Joe Budden Gives Tentative Release Date For Slaughterhouse Shady Records Debut

by J-23

The deal may not be final, but Joe Budden provides a tentative release date for Slaughterhouse on Shady Records

Since Royce's reconciliation with Eminem last year and Slaughterhouse appeared in the "Forever" video with Eminem, the rumours that the foursome were signing with Shady Records have been persistant.

While Royce told fans in April that the deal was a week from being done, the contract has still not been signed. Joe Budden is confident that the deal is as good as done, and told Power 105 they have a release date in mind.

"We are just about [signed to Shady Records]. It's so premature. It's four artists and a deal like that is just extremely complicated when you have four individual entities but the great thing about it is Em is just so passionate about hip-hop," Joey told Power 105's DJ Envy. "Everything that this group was formed around, he is in 200 percent support of so shout-out to him as well. Late 2011 [our Shady Records debut will drop], I'll go on the record and say that."

The union was first hinted at in the early spring of 2009, but it was the fall of that year when Royce spoke about the possible deal. “I’ve been talking to Em and Paul [Rosenberg, Eminem's manager] for a long time,” said Royce. “With this particular situation, things are falling into place. Everything is in place where it’s supposed to be. I’m very prepared [for] when the opportunity presented itself. It’s a time where there’s things they need over here and certain things we need in order to move over there. I think it’s a good marriage. Like I said, I just hope it can happen.”

CL Smooth Returns With New Solo, "The Emancipation Of Corey Penn"

by Jake Paine

After some reunion shows with Pete Rock and an appearance on John Legend & The Roots' "Wake Up!", CL readies his first LP in years.

Legendary New Rochelle, New York emcee CL Smooth will soon release his second solo album, The Emancipation of Corey Penn. Using the rapper's government name, the work will follow-up Smooth's 2006 American Me project, which boasted production from longtime Diplomats producers The Heatmakerz and Naughty By Nature member Kay Gee. A year later, CL released The Outsider, but the work was divided between remixes, new material and live performances.

The project does not have a confirmed date, but is anticipated for late 2010 or early 2011 release, according to publicists.

Known largely for his 1990s work with partner Pete Rock, CL Smooth has been in the news lately for reunion shows and a box-set reissue of the duo's classic 1992 album Mecca & The Soul Brother. The release included popular hit "T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over Year)" which CL wrote in dedication to late Heavy D & The Boyz member Trouble T-Roy.

Earlier this year, CL Smooth appeared on John Legend & The Roots' Wake Up! release on Columbia Records, which garnered a Top 10 debut.

Kanye West / Jay-Z Album On The Way

By Remmie Fresh

Originally, Jay-Z and Kanye West were going to collaborate for an EP, but now the pair are turning the effort into an album. Kanye West told MTV of the plan.

“We’re putting out a whole album now. We had done five songs so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there – and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay! We’re going to the South of France at the end of this month just to record new ideas. We’ll probably be done with the album in like a day or whatever. If you think about it, it’s really easy for Jay: He only has to think of, like, 10 verses!”

Originally, the frequent collaborators had opted to record an EP called Watch The Throne. West didn't suggest a release date for the album.

KRS, Styles P., Papoose, More On Board For DJ Premier's Debut Compilation

By Roman Wolfe

Living, Hip-Hop legend DJ Premier has announced the details behind the first compilation for his record label, Year Round Records titled Year Round Records: Get Used To Us.

The first collection of tracks from the world renowned beat creator hits the streets this December and features the Year Round Records Roster: Nick Javas, Khaleel and NYG'Z.

In addition to Preme's roster of artists, Get Used To Us features guest appearances from a who's-who in Hip-Hop, including KRS-One, MC Eiht, Styles P., Royce da 5'9, Freddie Foxxx, Lady of Rage, Blaq Poet, Papoose, Tef, Dynasty, Young Maylay, Joell Ortiz, Saigon and Grand Puba.

Additionally, Brenks and legendary producer Showbiz contribute tracks to the 16-song album.

“I chose to release this LP while I put the finishing touches on all of the projects that were due for 2010," DJ Premier said. "I figured, why not pull a song from each project as well as the Remixes that were only available on 12” inch vinyl last year. Since I am independent and I do not have to worry about following the map that our industry goes by, my goal is to release more than six albums in 2011."

If all goes according to plan, DJ Premier's label will release six new albums in 2011: Pete Rock Vs. DJ Premier, KRS-One (Return of the Boom Bip), Freddie Foxxx (The Kolexion), Tef (Contraband), Nick Jovas (Destination Unknown) and NYG'z (Hustlaz Union: Local NYG).

The NYG'z' Hustlaz Union: Local NYG will be the first all-DJ Premier produced project since Gangstarr's 200X album The Ownerz.

"I am a street DJ! Street DJ’s set the trends of what is good way before everyone knows what is happening," DJ Premier said. "Street DJ’s are like weathermen, we know when it is sunny, rainy, snowy, hurricanes; you name it before it actually hits. To prove my independence, I am dropping 4 singles and videos all at once (Nick Javas “Opportunity Knoccs”), (NYG’z “Policy”), (Khaleel “Hot Flames”), (MC Eiht “Fine By Me”) for the Get Used To Us compilation.

"I pride myself on making sure that my established market of fans and supporters get fed what there always waiting for when I release music and I welcome new fans that want to hear hard, original beats with rhymes that you can’t deny when it comes to skills," DJ Premier continued. "Plus, I have a live weekly radio show Friday nights from 10pm—Midnight (EST) on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio-(Hip Hop Nation)-(Sirius 40/XM 67) called (”Live From Headqcourterz”) which is dedicated to breaking new underground Hip Hop from a true DJ’s perspective. I only play what I think the audience needs to hear. Hip Hop’s age range has gone from age 4 to 60 believe it or not. You cannot outgrow a culture so I fill the void that terrestrial radio cannot fill.”

Beasties Bump Tracks From Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 For Part 1's Music

By Roman Wolfe

he Beastie Boys have announced that their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 will feature the same 16 tracks originally slated for inclusion on Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.

According to the group, Part 2 of the album will be released as planned in the spring of 2011 on Capitol Records.

Last week, The Beastie Boys announced that Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 would be delayed indefinitely as group member Adam "MCA" Yauch recovered from cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph nod.

The tracks originally recorded for Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, which are now back on Part 1, have been bumped to make room for the former Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 material.

“I know it's weird and confusing, but at least we can say unequivocally that Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 is coming out on time, which is more than I can say about Part 1, and really is all that matters in the end.” Adam “MCA” Yauch told AllHipHop.com in a statement today (October 25th). “We just kept working and working on various sequences for part 2, and after a year and half of spending days on end in the sequencing room trying out every possible combination, it finally became clear that this was the only way to make it work. Strange but true, the final sequence for Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 works best with all its songs replaced by the 16 tracks we originally had lined up in pretty much the same order we had them in for Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. So we've come full circle."

Ironically, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 is the Beastie Boys' first full length effort since 2007's Grammy winning all-instrumental The Mix-Up.

The final tracklisting is below:

1. Tadlock's Glasses
2. B-Boys In The Cut
3. Make Some Noise
4. Nonstop Disco Powerpack
5. OK
6. Too Many Rappers (featuring NAS)
7. Say It
8. The Bill Harper Collection
9. Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win (featuring Santigold)
10. Long Burn The Fire
11. Funky Donkey
12. Lee Majors Come Again
13. Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament
14. Pop Your Balloon
15. Crazy Ass Shit
16. Here's A Little Something For Ya

By Roman Wolfe

If a press release issued by the manager of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is accurate, the group is planning to release a variety of new projects, minus group members Bizzy Bone and Krayzie Bone.

While Bizzy's absence from the group has been well documented, in recent months it was speculated that Krayzie Bone was also in the process of leaving the group.

The rumors seemed to be confirmed when Krayzie Bone announced the formation of a new label The Life Entertainment, which immediately caused friction with former group member Bizzy, who's artist claimed he owned the rights to the label name.

In a press release issued yesterday, Bone's manager Jeremy Geffen stated that the group would wrap up their 90-city tour on October 30th, in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Wish, Layzie and Flesh-N-Bone will spend the rest of the 2010 writing a book, developing a film project and recording a new CD through a soon-to-be disclosed new recording deal.

“We’ve got a great team and big plans for BTNH for 2011 and beyond that are quickly coming to fruition," the group's manager Jeremy Geffen stated of the veteran Hip-Hop group. Pharoahe Monch Premieres 'Clap Back 'Anti-Police Brutality Anthem

By Nolan Strong

Pharoahe Monch is celebrating the 15th Annual National Day of Protest To Stop Police Brutality by premiering a new video for his anti-police brutality anthem "Clap (One Day) today (October 22nd).

The 15th Annual National Day of Protest To Stop Police Brutality takes place each year in communities across the country to protest aggressive police tactics.

To show support for the day, supporters are wearing all black to show solidarity.

Pharoahe Monch premiered "Clap (One Day)" last month to a sold out crowd at the Jazz Cafe in London.

The album was taken from his upcoming album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), which will be released through Pharoahe's W.A.R. Media and Duck Down Records in February of 2011.

"Instead of protect and serve, police often escalate situations, as with the cases of Sean Bell, Oscar Grant, or Aiyana Stanley Jones, and hundreds more who fell victim to police violence," Pharoahe Monch told AllHipHop.com. "I wrote this song to express my frustration, as well as raise the question of how our communities can create safety and prevent violence, with out relying on police."

The never-before-seen footage also features vocalists Showtyme, Mela Machinko and DJ Boogie Blind, who will also be in the short film and music video for "Clap (One Day)," which will be released in December 2010.

Pharoahe Monch was clear that despite the song's title, it does not advocate violence against police officers, as his brother protects and serves a local community.

"My brother is a police officer so I know there are some well intentioned people wearing blue uniforms," Pharoahe Monch told AllHipHop.com. "But the issue of police violence is much bigger than good cops and bad cops, it comes down to a broken system which criminalizes our communities, and must be completely transformed."

Pharaohe Monch's album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) will hit stores in February of 2011. For more information visit http://www.Pharoahe.com

Statik Selektah & Termanology Preview "1982," Reveal Work With Nas

by Paul W Arnold

The longtime p-n-c speaks about this month's dedicated collaboration album, as well as why Statik's next compilation will be more about emcees on the come-up.

Guru is tragically no longer with us, but a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Boston based emcee and deejay/producer tandem are keeping the Gang Starr tradition alive of raw rhyming atop boom bap beats with their debut effort as a duo, Statik Selektah & Termanology Are 1982.

Hot on the heels of Statik Selektah’s third critically-acclaimed compilation, 100 Proof (The Hangover), the heavily in-demand beatmaker/Showoff Records label-head and his longtime lyrical compadre/ST. Records leader are set to unleash another hard-hitting batch of beats and rhymes, this time under the billing of their birth year to symbolize the duo’s destined-to-be musical unification.

Last Thursday, (October 14th), Statik Selektah & Termanology casually chopped it up with HipHopDX about their joint LP droppin’ next Tuesday (October 26th). The friends of over a decade also revealed the details of currently in-the-works projects they each have on deck for 2011. Stat additionally broke some surprising news regarding Saigon, and even more eye-popping information about his collaboration with Nas.

HipHopDX: When are we getting a video for my personal favorite head-nodder from this 1982 album, “The Radio”?

Termanology: To tell you the truth man, there’s a sad story behind that…

Statik Selektah: [Laughs]

Termanology: That was supposed to be the first video on the joint. And, for the last five years I’ve been going to every radio station – I went to [DJ] Kay Slay, I went to Peter Rosenberg [and] Cipha Sounds, I went to Marley Marl, I went to DJ Premier, I went to Green Lantern, I went to…like everybody…Angela Yee. I went all around, and what I was gonna do was take live clips from all of those [appearances] and put ‘em together like a documentary for when I say the lines shouting ‘em out. But my stupid-ass manager Dan Green - this nigga’s mad retarded and stupid – he lost all the videos from the last five years [of] all the hard work that I put in. So that’s the problem with that video. So you’re probably never gonna see it, yo. So you can thank Dan Green for that.

Statik Selektah: [Interrupts] Nah, nah. We’re gonna do something. I have a couple concepts I gotta go over with Term.

Termanology: You can put that on HipHopDX, what I said, please.

Statik Selektah: [Laughs]

Termanology: He needs to be punished for his actions. He ripped my heart and soul out for no reason.

DX: You can still do something. You can still get L.L. Cool J to do that cameo for you [lip-synching the song’s sampled lines from “I Can’t Live Without My Radio”].

Termanology: Wooo! Remix “Mama Said Knock You Out,” let’s get it!

Statik Selektah: That shit would be hot.

Pioneering Hip-Hop Group The Fat Boys Talk 'Unsung' Premiere

By Houston Williams and Roman Wolfe

(AllHipHop News) Pioneering Hip-Hop group The Fat Boys will be the subject of tonight's episode of TVOne's critically acclaimed series, Unsung.

The series, which launched in 2008, features one-hour biography specials that celebrate the lives and careers of a variety of accomplished artists or groups who deserved - but didn't make - the transition to superstardom.

"The Fat Boys was such an amazing stepping stone for me to catapult myself into the production world and radio world," Prince Markie Dee told AllHipHop.com. "It was an amazing part of my life. That's enough for me, I really do this from my heart and I am so happy they did this for my man Buff."

The Fat Boys, who hailed from Brooklyn, New York, were one of the first internationally known Hip-Hop groups.

Their self-titled 1984 debut is considered a classic among Hip-Hop aficionados.

The group, which featured Prince Markie Dee, Kool Rock Ski, Rockski and Buffie aka the "Human Beat Box," blazed a trail for today's Hip-Hop artists.

In addition to their first two albums going gold (The Fats Boys, The Fat Boys Are Back!), The Fat Boys landed some of rap's earliest endorsement deals (Swatch, 1984), while starring in flicks like Disorderlies which featured legendary actor Ralph Bellamy and making appearances on TV shows like Miami Vice.

Tragically, group member Buff died of a heart attack brought on from his complications from his own weight, which was around 450 pounds at the time of his death in December of 1995.

"At the end of the day, all I care about is that my dude Buff gets his recognition. All these years have gone by since he's passed away and he's hardly ever mentions, honored or anything like that and it hurts me. He was such a good person and he deserved more. At the end, it shows what an amazing person Buff was," Prince Markie Dee told AllHipHop.com.

The episode of Unsung is told through a number of artists and executives, including the group's first manager, Swiss-born producer, rapper Kurtis Blow, Biz Markie, Charles Stettler and their current manager, Louis "Uncle Louie" Gregory.

"I always told Markie Dee it would come around one day, but I wasn't really stressing it," Kool Rock Ski told AllHipHop.com. "As long as the people who were there with us from day one know about the impact we had on hip-hop, that's all that really matters. We appreciate TVOne for recognizing us and wanting us to do this."

Unsung featuring The Fat Boys premieres tonight at 10:00 PM EST on TVOne.

Jimmy Henchmen Plans $120 Million Lawsuit Againt NY Daily News, Journalist Chuck Phillips

By Mike Winslow

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop executive James Rosemond is going on the offensive with a plan to file a $120 million dollar lawsuit against The New York Daily News and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Chuck Phillips, over an article published in September in the popular newspaper.

The news article, which was published on the 14th anniversary of the death of Tupac Shakur, accused Rosemond aka "Jimmy Henchmen" of cooperating with the government for years.

Phillips, a former writer for the Los Angeles Times, is a well-respected investigative journalist who has been reporting on the unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. for over a decade.

"It never fails, every year around Tupac's death that Chuck Phillips raises his fabricated mouth against Jimmy Rosemond but we intend to silence his foul mouth with this lawsuit and bury these tampered minutes and paperwork that Chuck Phillip received from jealous and envious inmates, which is the basis of this fairy tale story the Daily News wrote," Rosemond's lawyer David Feinstein snapped.

In an article published by The Los Angeles Times on March 17th, 2008, Phillips claimed that Rosemond set up Tupac Shakur to be beaten, robbed and subsequently shot at the Quad Studios in New York in November of 1994, resulting in tension between rap groups on the East and West Coasts of the United States.

The information was based off of civil court documents filed by an inmate named David Sabatino, who claimed that he worked with Rosemond early in his career promoting rap conventions.

TheSmokingGun.com later revealed that the documents were based on forged by Sabatino, who according to Rosemond's lawyers, has been declared insane by doctors.

The Los Angeles Times was forced to retract the story, in addition to offering an apology to Rosemond and Combs.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Times settled a lawsuit initiated by Rosemond over the story.

Recently, a letter Chuck Phillips allegedly sent to an inmate attempting to get him to reveal information on Rosemond, while making disparaging comments about the executive, was circulated on the Internet.

"On more than one occasion both Daily News & Chuck Phillips have contacted the same inmate trying to coerce him into saying Jimmy was an informant," Rosemond's lawyer Feinstein continued. "We have affidavits from inmates to prove the efforts of their coercion and how determined they were in proving their point. Even after the article's release Chuck Phillips continued in his quest to change the mind of individuals who refused to lie against Jimmy Rosemond at grand jury proceedings.

"Jimmy Rosemond has paid his dues to society and since his release from jail, a decade ago, he's been active in his community, working with troubled youths and have worked extensively abroad in Haiti," Feinstein said. "The only thing Jimmy Rosemond is guilty of is being an accomplished manager for singers & rappers and now he's a victim of his own success."

Ras Kass Inks Deal With 40 Glocc's Zoo Life Imprint

Roman Wolfe

(AllHipHop News) Revered Watts, California lyricist Ras Kass inked a deal with Big Bad 40's record label Zoo Life earlier this week.

Ras Kass is currently in the studio preparing his debut album for Zoo Life, which is distributed worldwide by Fontana/Universal.

“I’ve always been a fan of Ras Kass plus he’s my homey," said Big Bad 40 aka 40 Glocc. "With me gaining the opportunity to have a real label with distribution I automatically want artists with good music to come eat with me.”

Ras Kass' last official release was in July of 2010, when he dropped A.D.I.D.A.S. (All Day I Dream About Spittin) with DJ Rhettmatic.

The 26-track download featured a variety of artists, including Ice-T and David Banner, while production was handled by The Alchemist, DJ Babu, Mr. Porter and DJ Rhettmatic.

According to 40 Glocc, signing Ras Kass was part of his plan to move his record label forward and develop the Zoo Life imprint into a powerhouse label.

“When you deal with corporate America, no one has time for excuses and you are held accountable for every little thing, that’s gangsta to me," 40 Glocc said. "It’s a say what you mean and mean what you say kind of business. Me building my own label has forced me to move forward in some areas that I can honestly say work for my own benefit. I’m about getting this money every way possible, feel me,” says 40 Glocc.

No release date was available for Ras Kass' untitled Zoo Life debut.

By Jake Crates

(AllHipHop News) Big L’s family has backed an official project of unreleased material never heard by fans, that will be released on SMC Recordings/Distrolord Inc.

Big L’s new album Return of the Devil’s Son is 21 songs of unreleased material that will be released approximately 12-years since his unsolved murder and 10-years since his last album was certified gold.

“This album is supported 100% by the Big L family,” said Big L’s older brother Donald Phinazee. “I’ve been talking about this album for the last six years and it means everything to me. This is an original Big L album and I’m excited to put my brother out.”

Lamont Coleman aka Big L, was as witty, lyrical Harlem rapper who gained a great deal of attention in the 90’s as a member of the famed Diggin' In The Crates (DITC) crew that featured Diamond D., Showbiz & A.G., Lord Finesse, Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, and Big L.

In 2000, his posthumous second album The Big Picture was received to acclaim and sales in excess of 500,000.

“This album will show where he should have been and where he was about to go. It’s going on 12-years since he’s been gone. He would have been that one; this project will show where he should have been at,” continued Donald Phinazee.

"The people have been asking for true Hip-Hop music, and that's what I'm giving them," Black Rob stated. "I stayed away from features. I've been away for 4 joints, so I feel the people deserve to hear me. When I came home, I went right to work, and didn't have time to reach out to cats. On my next project you will get that. As for producers, I have some up-and-coming cats on there. I believe in giving cats a chance. As far as named producers you may hear a joint or two from Buckwild, Self Service, Bishop, Scram Jones and Pete Rock."

Game Tested and Street Approved is Black Rob's first album in over five years.

His sophomore album The Black Rob Report was released in 2005 and has moved over 100,000 units to date.

His Bad Boy debut, Life Story, moved over 1 million units, based on the hit single "Whoa!"

The rapper will perform new material from his Duck Down debut at the Duck Down VS Blacksmith showcase on October 19th at Le Poisson Rouge in New York during the CMJ Music Marathon.

"If I'm going independent why not go with a team I respect, and they have always had a true family setting & environment," Black Rob said of his decision to sign with Duck Down Records.

Hip Hop Hall Of Fame Wins Innovative Business Award

UConn awards the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum for a plan which could help promote Hip Hop culture and stimulate New York's economy.

The University of Connecticut’s Veteran Entrepreneur Boot-camp Program has awarded an Innovative Business Award to the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum. The museum was originally boycotted by KRS-One and Public Enemy’s Chuck D., who had issues with how various Hip Hop pioneers would be honored and compensated for their contributions to the culture. In May, representatives from the museum told the Wall St. Journal they hoped to raise roughly $125 million to complete construction.

“As a college educated Veteran of the US Army, and of Community Service and Businessthis has been one the of the most challenging and fulfilling Business programs that I have ever had the honor and priviledge to be apart of,” stated J.T. Thompson, creator of the HHHOF Museum & Entertainment Complex.

In a recent press release, representatives from the museum expressed the goal of turning their complex into “ the city’s newest cultural urban theme park.” By their calculations, the complex will produce over 100 jobs, bringing in an estimated 300,000 museum visitors and another 600,000 patrons for various live events.

More information about the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum is available via the official Twitter feed.

Immortal Technique Talks Hiatus & His Investments

by J-23

Tech talks about his time in Afghanistan, and investing his money in land in South America

Since his acclaimed 2008 album The Third World Immortal Technique has been under the radar. The Harlem rapper by way of Peru has certainly been busy though. HardknockTV caught up with Tech, where he talked about his recent activity and his upcoming albums.

"I went out to Afghanistan in order to solidify and complete the project, the green light project, of building a school and orphanage there with the money I raised through a series of shows and as a percentage of The Third World Album," Tech said when asked where he's been in the past two years.

"Besides that, I also travelled down to Columbia and Peru. Where I began a small part of development on the land that I purchased," said Tech, rather than buying cars or jewelry like other rappers or listening to the banks' advice. "I bought a huge farm about half the size of central park, I can do whatever I want, I grow whatever I want on it. If I had invested in these ridiculous little plans that the bank suggested for me, I'd probably have 60% of the money I have now instead of having triple the income and being able to provide sustenance for people."

Lupe Fiasco Explains Lasers Delay, Fans Plan Protest

by Salima Koroma

Lupe tells fans Atlantic thinks he's "whack" and fans plan a "Fiasco Friday" in protest of the label.

Lupe Fiasco attended the Second Regional Academic and Cultural Collaborative in Dayton, Ohio this weekend where he was a keynote speaker. There, he went into detail about why his long-awaited album Lasers is still being delayed.

Although he has touched on the topic before, he told fans that Atlantic demanded a 360 deal, including 25% earnings from original music, shows, and outside deals. He explained that, when he declined the offer, Atlantic threatened to withhold money to make music videos, and to not promote his music on the radio.

Lupe also said Atlantic didn't like his music, or as he put it, "They think I'm whack." He told fans that the label sent him hooks to record, and when he completed them, they still did not like them.

In reaction to Atlantic's delaying of the album, fans have planned a march in protest. Dan Winchester, organizer of the march told DX, "We want to generate awareness to this injustice and hopefully force Atlantic to explain why and defend their position of holding this back for so long…[Lupe's] music is empowering, inspiring, and draws attention to social issues in need of change."

The march, called Fiasco Friday, will be held on Oct. 15 outside of Atlantic's various offices around the nation. Lupe will reportedly be in attendance at the march in New York City.

"Fans and supporters will be wearing Fiasco attire, carrying picket signs, chanting, and spreading the message with any who will listen," said Winchester.

Eric B. & Rakim To Be Inducted Into Long Island Music Hall of Fame

Two Hip Hop icons are recognized by their hometown, after previous awards have gone to Run-DMC, LL Cool J and Public Enemy.

Legendary 1980s and early 1990s duo Eric B. & Rakim will be the latest Hip Hop act inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on November 16 at the Oheka Castle in Huntington, New York.

Past inductees include Public Enemy, Run-DMC and LL Cool J. In related news, LL Cool J is nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

While Rakim was from Long Island's Wyandanch, Eric B. originally hailed from Queens. In the early '90s, the two would split over creative and financial differences, both going on to record solo albums.

To date, Eric B. & Rakim have not reunited in the last 17 years. However, both are said to be attending the induction.

Police Target Graffiti Legend Cope2 For Subway Tagging

by Omar Burgess

NYPD officers charge Cope with criminal mischief after spotting him buffing out an old subway tag.

NYPD investigators charged Fernando "Cope2" Carlo with two counts of felony criminal mischief and one count of making graffiti after he was caught spray-painting at a subway yard. According to the New York Daily News, Carlo initially tried to explain the situation to nearby officers.

"It was a nighttime hit," Cope told officers. "I don't paint trains in the daytime. I went through the side gate by the gas station. I buffed out my tag, COPE. I just did it and drove away."

The now 41-year-old Cope rose to fame during the '70's and '80's tagging subway trains. He was able to parlay his cult status in the Hip Hop and graffiti community into mainstream success, including designing the artwork for the 1992 Boogie Down Productions album, Sex And Violence. In addition to being commissioned to incorporate graffiti art into projects for Adidas and Converse, Cope was also featured in Marc Ecko's 2006 video game, "Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure," as one of the graffiti legends.

"He seemed to be a good guy and he said he had left crime in the past," City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. told the Daily News. "I'm actually sad to hear about this."

Yelawolf Plans Two New Studio Albums, Speaks on Interscope’s Creative Influence

By Ismael AbduSalaam

(AllHipHop News) Alabama emcee Yelawolf has already mapped out the next six months with two new albums and a collaboration mixtape with Def Jam’s Big K.R.I.T.

Yelawolf, who’s already had a high-profile 2010 with appearances on projects from Bizarre, Paul Wall and Big Boi, will release his first major label album in November.

“Trunk Muzik: 0-60 is coming out in November, my first album release for Interscope,” he told AllHipHop.com. “After that, we’re going to be releasing an album in March called Radioactive. So it’s a lot of work.”

Even with a formidable promotion machine like Interscope behind him, Yelawolf cites touring as the best form of promotion for any artist.

To that end, he’s partnered with fellow breakout emcees Wiz Khalifa and Big. K.R.I.T. for the national Waken Baken tour.

“[I’m] on tour with Wiz Khalifa, and after I hop off that it’s straight back in the lab to work on the album release,” Yelawolf explained. “K.R.I.T.’s on the tour too, but we haven’t done any dates together; he’s doing spot dates. That’s another mixtape I’ll be putting out with him, Trunk Muzik Wuz Here: Country Cu$$inz should be dropping soon.”

The Alabama rapper is aware that due to major label protocol, he will now have to consider new factors like marketing and radio accessibility when making music.

However, Yelawolf is adamant that the integrity of his music won’t be compromised.

“I don’t do s**t that I don’t want to do. You can’t make me. It’s impossible, I’m too f**king stubborn,” Yelawolf stated. “I let my team deal with that in-between, creative talk. But I get it. I’m not up there to do music that people don’t understand. I’m up there to do music the world understands. I didn’t join a major label to be an underground artist.”

Yelawolf’s Trunk Muzik: 0-60 is scheduled for release on November 23.
