by Sean Ryon

The Diplomats producer says that he's hit the studio with the likes of Shady, Slaughterhouse and many others.

Flud Watches caught up with Cam'ron's production mainstay AraabMUZIK as a part of their "Beats Per Minute" video series. During the interview, the Dipset beatsmith spoke about some of the production placement he's got lined up for the coming year, and he dropped a few big names.

AraabMUZIK said the over the past few months, he's hit the studio with the likes of Eminem, Slaughterhouse, Jadakiss and many others. He said that in addition to working with artists of that caliber, he's also been getting more and more opportunities to perform at live events on his MPC.

"[Making beats] became like a job, something that I'm actually doing for a living," he said. "I'm working with Slaughterhouse, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Fabolous, 50 Cent, obviously the new Cam'ron album. I was on Jim Jones's last album. I'm definitely going to be on a lot of projects. It's not just producing, it's also performing now, so I'm definitely considered an artist/producer."

Slaughterhouse Previews New Track "Who's The Illest"

by Steven J. Horowitz

The Shady Records super group gives a sneak taste of a freshly recorded cut.

Hard at work on its upcoming album, Slaughterhouse recently previewed the new song "Who's the Illest" while hanging out in an Atlanta, Georgia studio with singer-songwriter Novel.

The quartet, which consists of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5'9, is currently prepping the release of its Shady Records debut. Nickel Nine recently spoke on the status of the LP, revealing that they have more than 20 songs already recorded.

"I can't really give too many details about that, because I don't really know what we're using," he said. "But we've been in with a lot of big-time producers. But I think after one or two more trips we'll have more of an idea what songs we're using. ... We've got over 20 songs done already and we're probably only gonna use probably 13. So we're in a good place with that album."

Emilio Rojas Addresses Rumors About Signing To Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group

by Steven J. Horowitz

The Rochester, New York native also touches on his origins and being deemed a "political" rapper.

Rumors have been swirling that Emilio Rojas is on his way to signing with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, but he claims that there’s nothing official to announce. Speaking with MinaSayWhat, the Rochester, New York native said that he’s connected with the crew but that nothing is set in stone.

“Ross is like the big bro. I’ve been building with him and Spiff and Sam Sneak and them. Just stay tuned. That’s the fam, that’s it,” he said. “I’m dead nice. With rap, I’m nice. I can rap. But everyone else on MMG can rap, too.”

Rojas addressed what he would bring to the table if he were to sign with MMG, explaining that he is able to go in certain directions that other artists cannot.

“There are directions that you could take me that you couldn’t necessarily take a lot of artists on the come up. Not just even referring to MMG, but any team that I would be a part of or any label that would be lucky enough to have me,” he joked. “There are directions that you could take me that a lot of people can’t. Like, I can rap. I’m nice. A lot of cats that are making the hit records aren’t that nice, but I’m dead nice. And, I can make the crossover records. I feel like you could put me on a record with a big pop hook and I could still rap my ass off. There isn’t that middle ground most often. I may not be the best of both worlds, but I’m up there. I’m in the top bracket.”

Music Vet Wendy Day Releases Digital Book Series for Music Industry

by Jake Crates

Music veteran Wendy Day, who had a successful 20-year career shopping, structuring, and negotiating record deals for some of music’s biggest talents, is sharing her knowledge of the music industry in a digital book series.

Seeking to educate industry hopefuls, Day’s series will start out with the first installment entitled, The Knowledge to Succeed, which is now available in digital stores worldwide. The first eBook, entitled How To Get A Record Deal, is available at Amazon, iTunes, Barnes & Noble’s website, Sony’s eBook store, and TheKnowledgeToSucceed.com, and is offered at an intentionally affordable $6.99 value.

Day says she saw a need for current information based on first-hand experiences and sought to dispel rumors that are rampant among young artists. So, she decided to write a series of affordable digital books, covering the prominent industry subjects that she is frequently asked about at lectures and panels.

“By far, the number one question I am asked as I speak at music conferences around the country is ‘how do I get signed to a record label?’ Artists still hold getting a record deal as their goal,” said Day recently.

Unbeknownst to many, Day has consulted the careers of many prominent artists over the years, making an indelible mark on the game and thus yielding the learnings in the new book series.
A few artists that she has helped include, but are not limited to, Eminem, Master P’s No Limit Records, Cash Money Records (Lil Wayne, BG, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Hot Boyz, and Big Tymers), Twista, Do Or Die, Cormega, Young Buck, Killa Mike, UGK, Machine Gun Kelly, David Banner, Mistah FAB, TMI Boyz, 4ize, and many others over the years.

“Even after explaining how to do it on my Blogs, and sharing specifics of deals I’ve shopped and negotiated, I’m still asked ‘how do I get a deal?’ almost daily,” Day explained.

Her goal is to arm artists with the knowledge they need to compete and succeed in an industry that is known to hide information, as every competitive advantage helps artists get ahead of the rest.

“To stand out in this over-saturated industry, artists must build a fan base and increase their hype (“buzz”) in their own region and on the internet first,” Day explains. “A label has to see the value of investing in an artist before taking the risk of signing an artist to their label. Gone are the days of A&R folks spotting talent and signing them without a movement behind them,” she added.

Day’s next release, available in December 2011, will be Turning Music Into Money: How To Put Out Your Own Music Independently – a perfect holiday gift for anyone interested in doing it themselves or starting a record label.
