Crooked I Talks Next Album, Death Row, Shady Records

by Slava Kuperstein

Crooked I discusses everything under the sun, including his next solo venture and his former and future labels.

Slaughterhouse emcee Crooked I recently sat down with Conspiracy Worldwide Radio to discuss a myriad of topics, including his next solo album.

"I have a lot of albums," said Crooked, laughing. "I probably could put out an album a day for thirty days...This Million Dollar Story is very close to me. What I'm doing is I'm working on it right now...a lot of people hear the title, and they're like, 'Million Dollar Story? Is this another dude talking about bling?' It's not really about that. It's more about the story of my life, and some of the priceless experiences that I've gone through, and some of the priceless inspiration that people can get when they can hear about all the struggles and adversity that I've been through, and that I'm continuing to push. Sometimes that's all you need to hear - that somebody's going through some of the similar things that you're going through. To me, those are the million dollar stories."

Crooked I added that the album would drop at the beginning of next year, though material from it would be leaked beforehand.

The west coast rapper also discussed the infamous label he was formerly signed to, Death Row. "One thing that people don't know though...that there was a good side [to Death Row]. There's Yin and Yang. We regularly [performed] acts of being positive in the community. Suge [Knight] had Mother's Day dinners where he would get all these mothers out of the ghetto, in low-income neighborhoods, bring them to Beverly Hills...and just feed them [and the kids] all day, give out prizes and have guest artists perform. Even on Father's Day, he would bring around this bus, get a lot of the kids who had fathers in prison and don't get a chance to see their fathers, go get the kids and get them clothed, get them to the penitentiary to see their fathers."

Finally, Crooked discussed his current status with regards to Shady Records, as it was reported that Slaughterhouse would be signing to the label. "I'mma tell you like this," said Crooked when asked whether the deal had been officially completed. "I don't know about the rest of the group, but I'm on Shady!" he said, before breaking out laughing. "I'm just playin'. This is a note to any up-and-coming artist who's out there...any aspiring rapper or producer: when you sign a contract with a label, make sure that you have certain freedoms. Try to negotiate."

"We got four dudes, we got separate contracts with different labels, and some labels kinda blocking. They kinda blocking. But we're getting over those obstacles now, and we're negotiating...It's worse than LeBron going to The Heat. It's crazy how long it's taking, but it's going to happen. Absolutely it's gonna happen, and absolutely we will be in the studio with Eminem, recording probably the greatest music of our lifetime."

Bun B Helps Crown Finalist at Atlanta Red Bull EmSee Battle

By Ismael AbduSalaam

(AllHipHop News) Respected veteran Bun B was on hand last night in Atlanta to crown the last finalist in Eminem’s Red Bull EmSee battle tournament.

The show took place at the city’s Masquerade venue, and was the final preliminary stop of a national tournament that has also held events in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Orlando, Greensboro and Houston.

Red Bull’s tournament breaks from traditional battle presentations by having participants go through two rounds where they construct improvised rhymes based on topics flashed on a screen.

The head to head battle is saved for the final round.

“Red Bull EmSee is freestyling 2.0…the next level of the game,” Bun told AllHipHop.com at the event. “It’s as interactive as a freestyle competition you can get.”

The Atlanta show started it off with eight emcees and featured a final between Headkrack and Hot 107.5 wildcard winner Fattman.

Fattman’s energy and appearance (rapping with no shirt on) helped him win the crowd early on, but became a detriment in the final round. Headkrack utilized his opponent’s rotund shape to get in several stinging jabs.

“When I step on stage emcees get killed/When I seen him all I could think about was breast milk!/This is a man with titties/Get off the stage go work at Magic City!”

He credits lines like those as what enabled him to get Fattman mentally out of his comfort zone.

“I felt it. Emcee battling is talent but a lot of it is psychological just like boxing,” Headkrack explained. “So at the staredown you got to get in this dude’s head…Once you get a dude to look away that’s half of it done. And when they’re throwing lines at you and you look unimpressed and not fazed by what they’re saying it makes them have to work harder.

The Detroit finalist will be selected this Saturday (August 21) on 98 WJLB. The finalists from each region will then face off in Detroit in front of Eminem on August 26 at St. Andrews Hall.

The three judges for the events have been Don Cannon, last year’s winner Manchild and Bun B.

Bizzy Bone to Ink Deal With Cash Money Records

(AllHipHop News) Cleveland rapper Bizzy Bone is close to signing a deal with legendary New Orleans powerhouse, Cash Money Records.

While details are not available at press time, a source close to the negotiations revealed that the pair will reach a deal that will see Bizzy Bone release at least one album on the Cash Money imprint.

Bizzy Bone is a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and is featured on their latest album Uni-5: The World's Enemy.

However, the rapper did not tour with the group during their highly anticipated reunion tour.

In an interview with AllHipHop.com, Layzie Bone discussed Bizzy absence.

"He has other obligations and we had a difference of opinion on how much we should get for this tour,” Layzie Bone told AllHipHop.com in March of 2010 “We looked at it like promo tour, he looked at it a little differently, which is cool, because his arrangement doesn’t require him to be there. He’s still a 1/5th member of Bone. We been together for 18 years now. We are all grown men, so we all have different arrangements within the Bone structure. The main thing about it, we don’t ever give up."

By Nolan Strong

Bizzy Bone refuted Layzie Bone's claims and stated he wasn't offered an opportunity to tour with the group.

"It don't got nothing to do with the money because I never got the opportunity to get that far," Bizzy Bone claimed in an interview later that month.

More recently, Bizzy revealed that he was working on a heavy metal album titled Crossroads 2010, which will feature hardrock remakes of some of the Grammy Award winning rapper's hits.

The album is due out August 24th on Sumerian Records

By Houston Williams

(AllHipHop News) "Decoded," the memoir of Jay-Z's life, will finally make it to stores in November even though it has been finished for a number of years.

The book, written by author and film maker Dream Hampton, will examine the history of the Hip-Hop mogul though a series of extensive interviews from Jay-Z, his family and friends.

The Brooklyn native explained his reluctance to release the book before now.

"It's too much. For the book, I was interviewed, people close to me were interviewed. So I was learning a lot of things I didn't know as a child," Jay told Rolling Stone in the June issue. "It's not anything i haven't said in the past, in songs. It's just more detailed. A song is three minutes long. A book doesn't have to rhyme, and it has no time limit, so you can say exactly how everything went."

The book will also delve heavily into Jay-Z's lyrical content.

"Decoded" will be in stores on November 16.
