Wu-Tang Clan Discusses Return To Music, Longevity

by Slava Kuperstein

The Wu-Tang Clan waxes nostalgic, and explains why they reunited.

With 20 years in the game, Wu-Tang Clan has experienced Hip Hop's highs with critical and commercial success, as well as it lows, with infighting and the death of member Ol' Dirty Bastard.

Ultimately, the crew has persevered and remained a force in Hip Hop, a fact that the group discussed in a recent interview with ThisIs50.com. "This is my foundation," explained RZA. "If my brothers is ready to rock and roll, I'm ready to rock and roll. Music? Man. It's magical, baby."

"We reached the people, yo. I don't care what nobody say," offered Inspectah Deck. "A lot of motherfuckers'll tell you Wu-Tang's irrelevant, out of date, or whatever the case. I'm just more or less...the movement that's behind us, is bigger than us now."

Pharoahe Monch Reveals Rock-Inspired New Album "Rock Vs. Disco"

by Steven J. Horowitz

Pharoahe Monch is currently working on a project inspired by rock music.

Last year, Pharoahe Monch dropped off his excellent third solo album W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), but he’s switching up his style for his next LP. During an interview with Montreality, P revealed that he’s currently working on a project titled Rock vs. Disco, inspired by rock music, and recently delivered a verse for Marco Polo’s Port Authority 2.

“I’m working on a new project called Rock vs. Disco. A lot of rock joints. A lot of beats,” he said. “I just did a song for Marco Polo for his up-and-coming album, Port Authority 2. I just been listening to the verse over and over because it came out really crazy.”

Monch also ran off a shortlist of artists with whom he’d like to collaborate. Though he’s appeared on records with a who’s who of musicians, his wish list is slanted towards Hip Hop.

“Too many people. There are too many. I can keep running off names and keep going for an hour. D’Angelo, Bilal, Georgia Anne Muldrow, [GZA], Nas, Raekwon…”

Nas Discusses Choosing "The Don" As His New Single

by Slava Kuperstein

Nas explains how he came to choose the Salaam Remi, Da Internz, and Heavy D-produced cut for his latest single.

As Nas readies his 10th LP, Life Is Good, the Queens emcee reflects on the latest release from the album, "The Don ."

"When Salaam [Remi] played me the beat for it, I said, 'That's the single — do this and do that and we're golden.' So he started flipping it around," said Nas of the cut in an interview with MTV News.

Nas recalled how the passing of Heavy D, one of the song's producers along with Salaam Remi and Da Internz, coincided with the development of the song. "When we heard that Heavy D died, of course we were messed up, and Salaam called me and told me, 'You know your record "The Don?" You know who gave me that, right?':

"He's like, 'Heavy D gave me that. He liked what we did with the other single, "Nasty ," and he sent me this record.' And the rest is history," Nas continued. "So rest in peace, Heavy D."

Mobb Deep Speaks On Chemistry, Praises Rick Ross

by Steven J. Horowitz

Mobb Deep's Prodigy and Havoc discuss what it was like to hit the studio after a few years apart.

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy and Havoc are currently in the middle of recording their eponymous ninth album, but the chemistry is still intact after a few years apart from one another. Speaking with Hard Knock TV, the pair spoke on how getting back into the studio after P’s release from prison was seamless and that the incarceration only enhanced their abilities.

“If you haven’t ridden a bike in however long, let’s say three years, when you get back on, you know how to ride,” said Havoc. “The chemistry’s always going to be there. We know each other inside out, so it’s not like we needed to get to know each other again.”

“I would say my time away made me focus more, even for the both of us,” added Prodigy. “Maybe just made me think more far ahead, like what can we do best to make sure we’ve got this longevity for good, like it’s not going nowhere?”

Prodigy, who said that he will drop H.N.I.C. 3 soon, also praised Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross. He claimed that the Maybach Music Group rapper has stepped his pen game up over the past few years and that he sees some of his work ethic in him.

“Rick Ross, Rick is one artist that I got to make this very clear. Rick is one artist who really impressed me within the past three years that I was gone. He stepped his game all the way the fuck up. I’m talking about his pen game. That boy is spitting right now. And we respect niggas like that, because we the type of niggas that’s on some longevity shit… That’s how people always look at us, and that’s how we look at our own careers. Like fuck that, we gotta keep doing that, we ain’t no one-hit wonders. So we respect other people when we see that in them, and I’ve seen that in him, recently.”
