Author: Salima Koroma

On Wednesday, July 22, the Rock Steady Crew will be celebrating its 32nd anniversary with a five-day event that will include break dancing face-offs, dance lessons, and performances by big-name artists. Formed in 1977, the Hip Hop crew grew to become one of the leading and most influential breaking groups of their time.

The events will be located at various venues throughout New York and New Jersey. On Wednesday and Thursday, veteran choreographers Crazy Legs, Mr. Wiggles, Cricket, and others will hold dancing workshops while Friday and Saturday’s events will include battle competitions among world-class dancers for a $2,000 cash prize.

At New Jersey’s Lincoln Park, the Rock Steady Crew will round out the week’s events with the free outdoor concert, “Rock Steady For Life.” Artists performing will include Biz Markie, Grand Puba [click to read] of Brand Nubian, U-God [click to read] of Wu-Tang Clan, Roxanne Shante, Cormega, Sean Price, Bishop Lamont, Blaq Poet, DJ Scratch, The End of the Weak Crew and many others. The concert will also serve as a food drive in which attendees may donate canned food to help support local struggling families.
