DJ Premier On Kanye's New Album: 'Strictly Hard Beats And Rhymes

by Slava Kuperstein

n a recent interview with The Red Bulletin, legendary Hip Hop producer DJ Premier spoke briefly on Kanye's career, as well as his highly-anticipated fifth album.

Preme noted how Kanye's emphasis on sampling brought the production technique back to the forefront at a time when synth-laden soundscapes were the norm. "Well, first of all, if you look at all of Kanye West’s output, he actually did a lot to bring back sampling and make it cool again, even though he’s more of a mainstream artist."

Premier also provided insight on Ye's new album, revealing that the Chicago producer/emcee would be taking a back-to-basics approach - presumably typical of his debut, College Dropout. "his new album is strictly hard beats and rhymes. He’s totally done with electro. You’re gonna be surprised what you hear."

This fuels already rampant speculation regarding Kanye's project, thought to be titled Good Ass Job, as it was reported recently that Q-Tip, RZA and Pete Rock might all be contributors to the project.
