Update: R. Kelly Boots Aspiring Musician From Court, Star Witness Set To Testify Today

written by Janelle Griffith

A man was removed from the Cooks County Criminal court room Friday after attempting to give his music CD to R. Kelly.

According to the Chicago Tribune, criminal defense attorney Mike Roman, who doubles as a front-man of the Latin rock band, Mike Roman and the Tellstars, approached the R&B singer while he was alone at the defense table, trying to offer him a copy of his music. Roman is in no way connected to the Kelly case.

When first approached, the R&B singer said, "No, thank you. I'm not allowed to take anything." Roman reportedly tried again and Kelly continued to decline the CD, this time saying "I'm not allowed to talk to anyone." Judge Vincent Gaughan previously issued a gag order prohibiting Kelly from speaking with anyone regarding the trial.

Roman remained persistent, even offering to leave the CD, but was asked not to by Kelly. "Please," Kelly said. "You have to leave me alone."

After the other attorneys got wind of the conversation, deputies were called and Roman was detained. He told authorities, "I'm a lawyer and I'm a musician. What's wrong with that?"

The judge later ordered that he be escorted from the building. Though Roman was cooperative he still tried to sell his CD "Cha Cha Time" to one of Kelly's lawyers before exiting the premises.

Kelly's ongoing child pornography trial will resume today, after the jury had a day off on Friday.

As SOHH previously reported, during Friday's hearing the judge ruled that music journalist Jim DeRogatis - who was responsible for passing the alleged sex tape to authorities - will have to take the stand. Kelly's legal team hopes the reporter's testimony will undermine that of Stephanie "Sparkle" Edwards, who told police she saw a copy of the tape in the company of DeRogatis after he had already turned it over to police.

Kelly faces 14 counts of videotaping, producing, or soliciting child pornography. He pled innocent to all charges and if convicted could face up to 15 years in prison.

The prosecution's star witness- who claims she had a threesome with the singer and the alleged victim is expected to testify today.

Stay tuned To SOHH as the story develops.
