Tupac's Last Words Revealed By Police Officer
by Andres Tardio
Carroll says he pulled Tupac Shakur out of Suge Knight's vehicle and that Knight kept yelling at him.
"As Suge is yelling ‘Pac!,’ I look down and I realize that this is Tupac Shakur," Carroll says. "At the time, it didn’t really mean much of anything to me. I was more concerned that this was a bad situation to be in with just one other cop."
Carroll says he tried to get Tupac to identify the person responsible for the shooting.
"I’m looking at Tupac, and he’s trying to yell back at Suge, and I’m asking him, ‘Who shot you? What happened? Who did it?’ And he was just kind of ignoring me. He was making eye contact with me here and there, but he’s trying to yell at Suge. And I kept asking over and over, ‘Who did this? Who shot you?’ And he basically kept ignoring me. And then I saw in his face, in his movements, all of a sudden in the snap of a finger, he changed. And he went from struggling to speak, being noncooperative, to an ‘I’m at peace’ type of thing. Just like that.
"He went from fighting to ‘I can’t do it,' and when he made that transition, he looked at me, and he’s looking right in my eyes," Carroll adds. "And that’s when I looked at him and said one more time, ‘Who shot you?’ He looked at me and he took a breath to get the words out, and he opened his mouth, and I thought I was actually going to get some cooperation. And then the words came out: ‘Fuck you.’"
Carroll says those were the last words Tupac ever said.
"That moment I talked to him was his last real living moment where he was speaking," Carroll says. "I talked to the cop who rode in the ambulance with him. He said Tupac never came out of it, and he never said anything at the hospital. There was nothing else.”
The Vegas Seven acknowledges that some of Carroll's statements differ "significantly from what has been reported previously, most notably in the book The Killing of Tupac Shakur by Las Vegas-based author Cathy Scott."
In early May, Suge Knight spoke about Tupac.
"Tupac not dead," Suge said at the time. "Tupac not dead, nigga. If he was dead they’d be arresting those dudes for murder. You know he somewhere smoking a Cuban cigar on an island somewhere.”

Hollow Da Don Says Slaughterhouse Emcees Would Lose Against URL Battlers
by Jay Balfour
hiphopdx.com
"I used to switch up who I thought was the
best," Hollow Da Don says of Slaughterhouse. "Joe Budden came in last
most of the time."
Speaking with VladTV about Battle Rap in general and his planned match-up against Joe Budden more specifically, Hollow Da Don said he goes back and forth about who he thinks is the best emcee in Slaughterhouse.
“The crazy thing about Slaughterhouse, when they first got
together and shit for their first album, that’s how I knew they were
wild nice,” he said. “I used to switch up who I thought was the best.
Damn, I don’t wanna say this ‘cause it gon’ seem like I’m saying this
‘cause I’m battling him. But Joe Budden came in last most of the time.
He just ain’t flip his shit up sometimes on certain records how they was
flipping their shit up. At one point, I thought Joe Budden was the best
still. At first it was Royce, I was like, ‘Oh, Royce is the best.’ Then I was like, ‘Nah, Crooked I the best.’ Then I was like, ‘Joell’s
the best.’ Then I was like, ‘Joe’s the best.’ Honestly, in a battle, I
think who would fare the best is probably—it’s hard to say ‘cause all
them niggas is nice, son.”
During the interview, Hollow also detailed his opinion on
who would win in a card pitting Slaughterhouse emcees against URL
battlers. While he agrees with Norbes that the Slaughterhouse emcees would fall short, he also gave some alternative match-ups while speaking with VladTV.
“Like Norbes said though, I don’t think nobody would win on
their side," he said. "I think somebody would win a round. I think it
would be a close battle. I don’t know. It depends on who you put against
who. I think Crooked I against Ill Will, I don’t know. It depends on
the matchups honestly.”

Terminator X Says Modern Rap Is "Worst It's Ever Been"
by Andres Tardio
Terminator X says he left the
music business because he was "fed up with the greed and cutthroat
environment..this includes Public Enemy."
Terminator X, who worked with Public Enemy for years, recently spoke with Crazy Hood about why he decided to retire from the music industry.
"I left the music business because I was fed up with the
greed and cutthroat environment that it is—this includes Public Enemy," Terminator X
says. "That is not an environment I choose to be in. My family started
an ostrich farm, which I participated in, but it is not the reason I
left the music business."
Since he left the industry, Terminator X says the genre's gotten worse.
"I think the subject matter of modern Rap is, for the most
part, the worst it’s ever been," he says. "Most of what I hear out
there is either sex, violence, or drugs. I would be happy if they would
simply find anything else to rap about. That would be a good start."
Terminator X says he has a theory as to why the genre has deteriorated in his eyes.
"The original Hip Hop has been lost to the music business," he
says. "The original Hip Hop music was done out of love of Hip Hop music
and culture. Rap music today is a product of the music business which
decides what it thinks is sellable and marketable. The DJ was one of the
most important elements of Hip-Hop. Now, DJs in Rap music are almost
irrelevant. The DJ has gone the way of the R&B band. In my opinion,
the original Hip Hop music has been altered forever. Times change.
Culture develops and changes. Such is life. Music will carry on and
change always as everything else does. I hope the DJ and scratching will
return to Rap music."

The Roots are back with a new album. The conceptual …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin will be released May 19th, but The Tonight Show house band has now offered the 12-track project for streaming.
As lead rapper Black Thought explained it,
the concept of the album centers around examining stereotypical themes
often seen in Hip Hop culture and the greater society.
“It’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record,” said Black Thought.
“It’s satire, but in that satire it’s an analysis of some of the
stereotypes perpetuated in not only the Hip Hop community, but in the
community.”

Rappers With Fake Watches Listed By Instagram Account
by Jay Balfour
FakeWatchBusta calls out rappers with fake watches.
FakeWatchBusta calls out rappers with fake watches.
With designer jewelry a staple in the lives and lyrics of many rappers, an Instagram user by the name FakeWatchBusta has spent a little over two months profiling rappers and other celebrities with fake watches on his account.
FakeWatchBusta, who has kept his real name anonymous throughout, recently spoke with Noisey about
his account and explained his initially having fun with the idea. “I
started calling out some regular accounts on Instagram for fun, you
know, just a dude in his 20’s that is fronting like he bought a Rolex
Submariner to his followers and tagging #Rolex #Millionaire #Money and
that sort of thing,” he said. FakeWatchBusta, who also has a dedicated
watch account of his own called WingedCrusader, says he’s “busted” names
like Carmelo Anthony, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, and Sean Kingston.
“I think the jewelers are taking advantage,” he said. “But
if [the rappers] wanted the real deal from, say, Ben Baller it would be
twice the price. I don’t think they care about the watch part – it’s the
diamonds and shit that’s important to them. I think it’s more jewelry
than watches for most of them."
"I mean Soulja Boy’s watch is a bad Audemars Piguet quartz
fake and the battery has run out so it shows the same time in all his
pictures," he also said. "It’s 10:25 all day, every day. It’s pretty
funny.”
Some of FakeWatchBusta’s posts and their corresponding captions are available below.
“When I busted @souljaboy I thought I had found the worst fake #AudemarsPiguetever,” he wrote. “Then @yogottikom
shows up with this!!! Y~, Look at the date and the hands! Y(TM)^ I bet
#HewlettPackard printed his money. Y(TM)Sh #BUSTED Y~(C)
#RappersWithFakeWatches”
The account holder has continually chastised Soulja Boy for what he says is a fake watch stuck at a particular time.
“@itsgunplay with a fucked up Bumblebee,” FakeWatchBusta wrote. “He hangs out with @tvjohnny and@richforever,
what else would you expect? Y(TM)Sh Cut on 8 is terrible. Sub dial
config is wrong, date is shallow and wider ring at the hand base.
#BUSTED”
“Rapper @future
with the worst kind of fake #AudemarsPiguet #RoyalOak#Offshore. Sub dial
configuration is wrong and the 8 is not even close to the real cut off
OEshY" He can thank his girlfriend @ciara for getting busted.”

DJ Premier To Release "Secret" Project, Details Nas Joint Album Plans
by Andres Tardio
hiphopdx.com
The effort, set to feature Ab-Soul, Mac
Miller and Slaughterhouse, is based on one secret artist. "I sample only
one artist and only used their samples for the entire album," DJ
Premier says. "I strictly just use that one person."
DJ Premier has announced an upcoming project with an artist he's yet to disclose.
“I’m doing a project that I can’t mention yet," Premier says in an interview with Life + Times.
"It’s a full album. I just completed it with an artist and we’re gonna
announce it in maybe in the next week or two. It’s already done. It
features Ab-Soul, Mac Miller, [and] Slaughterhouse is on it.
"That’s all I can really tell you right now," he adds.
"It’s a really unique project. It’s a project where I sample only one
artist and only used their samples for the entire album. I strictly just
use that one person – took all their samples, broke it into pieces and
made my own beats out of it, and scratched it – the whole album. It was
gonna be an EP, but it turned into a whole album. It’s gonna have nine
tracks on it. It’s a really cool project.”
DJ Premier Addresses Potential Nas Joint Album
DJ Premier has been working with other acts, but many have
continued asking the producer about a rumored potential project with
Nas.
"This is what Nas told me recently," Premier says, "and
every time that we talk this is what he tells me. He says, 'Look, I got
another new album I got to do on Def Jam and then my contract is over.
I’d rather do your album…that’s because we can do whatever we want.
There’s no strings. We can just rock out.' Everybody’s like, 'When are
ya’ll gonna do an album?' I’m not rushing it and I have other things to
do. I don’t even take it personal when he’s like, 'Yo, I’m working this
first.' Whenever he says that he’s ready, I’m going in. So, that was
always my way of looking at it. I never looked at it no other way. I
ain’t trippin.'"
In October 2013, DJ Premier spoke about the potential Nas collaborative album.
“It’s coming,” DJ Premier said.
“I just saw him last week. It's coming. He has another project to drop
on Def Jam, then he's a free agent. Let him get that out. It'll give me
time to get my artists ripped and ready. Then we can all tour together
or something."hiphopdx.com

“We actually had a chance to work with the producers to
identify artist that they were genuinely excited about working with,”
Jaxie Alt, senior VP of marketing at Dr Pepper, says to Billboard. “It
was also important that we had talent who felt authentic to our brand
and embodied what being 'One of a Kind' truly is. Through all of our
creative, we wanted to tell the stories of unique artist and capture the
collaborative process between producer and artist.”
The “One of a Kind” material was recorded in the Dr Pepper
Studio in Hollywood, California and is produced in conjunction with
Complex Media Group.
The Roots "...and then you shoot your cousin" Release Date, Cover Art & Tracklist
by Andres Tardio
The Roots release information regarding its "...and then you shoot your cousin" project.
The Roots are set to release ...and then you shoot your cousin May 19, according to iTunes.
The album is set to feature Nina Simone, Mary Lou Williams and Michel Chion.
Black Thought spoke about the effort in February.
"It’s another concept album in the spirit of undun, but it’s not just about just one kind of character," Black Thought said at the time.
"We create quite a few different characters in this record. It’s
satire, but in that satire it’s an analysis of some of the stereotypes
perpetuated in not only the Hip Hop community, but in the community. I
don’t know if that makes any sense.
“Hopefully you’ll get something new from it every time you
listen to it, you’ll hone in on something different,” he added. “It’s
short enough to do that, to take in, to digest in one sitting, so to
speak. I think right now it’s at maybe 34 minutes. There may be one or
two musical things added on to the record that I know is the record at
this point. But I don’t think it will be any longer than 36 or 37
minutes in its entirety. So in that, it’s short enough to digest, but
it’s gonna be dense. So dense that maybe in one sitting you’ll listen to
it and only listen to the piano and string arrangements, and then
you’ll listen to it again and you’ll get into the actual words that are
being said, and you’ll listen again and get into some of the other
musicality. There’s very many layers to this record, but it doesn’t take
place over very much time.”

KOTD Founder Organik Says Smaller Battle Rap Leagues Can't Buy Credibility
by Jay Balfour
“[It’s] not that there’s too many leagues, just too many leagues fighting for the same pot,” he said. “I don’t think it benefits these bigger name battlers to go battle on these leagues that only have 600 subscribers on their YouTube channel. That’s why these leagues are paying these rappers that because your name is bringing that league exposure, not the league bringing that name exposure."
Later in the interview, the battler and industry promoter spoke specifically about credibility-building as a function of organic growth.
"That’s what’s happening in this stuff," he said. "A lot of leagues are coming in and they’re just trying to throw money around to get that credibility. That credibility should come from showing that you care about Battle Rap the same way we did when no one looked at it, when no one cared for it. We were out trying to push it and show people, ‘Yo, this is interesting. Check this out...We have a way to get your name out a little further.’ These leagues ain’t really trying to do that. They’re just trying to find who’s hot and put them on in their spot and say, ‘Hey, I got these two guys to battle.’ That don’t take much to do. It just takes money."

Cassidy Details Terms For Possible Return To Battle Rap
by Jay Balfour
hiphopdx.com
Cassidy says $30k or $40k to battle "ain't
about nothing." "That shit gon' have to make perfect sense," he explains
of his thoughts on a possible return to the ring.
After claiming that he “elevated from” from Battle Rap and dispelling any possibility of returning to battling in April, Cassidy sat down with VladTV and hinted that if the payout was large enough and his opponent was properly matched he would consider the return.
“That shit is a business,” he said. “Now back in the day,
before it was a business, before I was making money, that’s what I was
doing all the time ‘cause that’s where I was at in the game. But now
everything I do I get paid for. I’m not gonna go battle some nigga and
fuck with this permanent money that I’m gonna be able to get forever to
just please a couple niggas. That shit gon’ have to make perfect sense.
The nigga I battle gotta be a perfect nigga so after I do it—I know the
outcome, what it’s gonna be. He gon’ get destroyed. But after I destroy
him, I’ll be able to bring shit to the table for Mayhem Music, my
family, my team and not just no 30 [or] 40 grand. That shit ain’t about
nothing. That shit ain’t about nothing.”
Earlier this month, Joe Budden commented on Cassidy’s April comments and told the Angry Fan Radio Show that the Philadelphia rapper “is not getting paid Loaded Lux money right now from anywhere.”

Atmosphere's Slug Details "Southsiders," Evolution, Pain & Hope
by Andres Tardio
“I guess I’m looking for some sort of promise that everything is going to fucking be okay,” Slug says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “We’ve put in a lot of time and effort into chasing these fucking dreams and you reach a certain point where you’re kind of like, ‘Why? Why have I put so much time and effort into chasing this dream? What am I trying to communicate? What is it that I am trying to say?’ Not only that, but, ‘How much time do I got left before I have to stop? Either because they’re going to fire me or because I’m gonna get hit by a bus? At some point, it all has to stop and when it does, will I have said it all? Will I have got it all out there?'
“So this is the record where I’m like, ‘Well, what am I supposed to make a record about now?’” he adds. “I already am in my 40s. What am I supposed to rap about now? Like ‘Oh, maybe you should rap about the things you’re thinking about.’ Nowadays, I don’t have to worry as much about the phone bill, so I have time to start thinking about things like the ocean. I have time to start thinking about things like gentrification…There are a lot of things I hit on this record. It’s just the stuff I’m thinking about. That’s definitely different shit.”

Slug discusses his evolution as a person, writer and emcee as Atmosphere preps the release of "Southsiders."
Throughout
his 17 years as an emcee in Atmosphere, Slug has explored pain and hope
with critically acclaimed lyrics. On the group’s forthcoming Southsiders
album, due in stores tomorrow (May 6), the Minneapolis rapper remains
in search of answers to several questions he’s faced in life.“I guess I’m looking for some sort of promise that everything is going to fucking be okay,” Slug says in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “We’ve put in a lot of time and effort into chasing these fucking dreams and you reach a certain point where you’re kind of like, ‘Why? Saigon Says Wu-Tang Clan Was The Last Conscious Rap Group Because Of Dead Prez Conspiracy
by Keith Nelson
Wu-Tang Clan was nothing to f*ck with, but always imparted wisdom and knowledge inside the gruesome rap tales. According to Saigon, after Wu-Tang Clan, there was no other popular conscious rap group.
In an interview with VladTV, the Love & Hip Hop actor says that the label behind both Wu-Tang Clan and Dead Prez (Loud/Columbia) did not provide the same promotional help for the conscious rap of Dead Prez. According to Saigon, Dead Prez’s commercial demise was preordained by the powers that be and their “agenda”.

They shut Dead Prez down. They Put the mussle on Stic[.ma] and M[-1], quick. As great as they were and as big as they were, had the label at the time really put the energy that they would put behind a group that was spreading violence or a group that was spreading ignorance, they would have had a much bigger impact. They were loved. Dead Prez was loved, because a lot of people understood. But the system said, hey, this is not conducive to us. To our agenda. Both Dead Prez and Wu-Tang were signed to Loud/Columbia back in 2000. Dead Prez released their debut album Let’s Get Free in March 2010, eight months before Wu-Tang Clan released their third studio album, The W. Wu-Tang Clan’s following album, The Iron Flag would be released a year after. Dead Prez’s second album Revolutionary But Gangster was not released until four years later and less than a month Sony Music and Bertelsmann Music Group formed Sony BMG 50-50 venture.

Ab-Soul Says He’s Close To Just Leaking His Album
by Yohance Kyles
Top Dawg Entertainment’s Ab-Soul has been waiting to release his new album for months. The self-described “Black Lip Bastard” announced the project was complete in February, and TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith shared that Soul’s LP is “coming soon” in March.
It seems Ab-Soul is tired of waiting for the follow-up to 2012′s Control System to be released by the label. The Black Hippy member sent out a tweet suggesting he may just upload the album to the Internet for free.
Speaking of mixtape, Ab-Soul also mentioned recently that he plans to drop the third installment in his Longterm series.

Papoose Challenges Jay Z To Attend 5 Percent Nation Community Event
by Yohance Kyles
Jay Z’s choice of neckwear at a Brooklyn Nets game last month brought the BK rhymer a lot of attention. That’s because the chain he had on is affiliated with Nation of Gods and Earths also known as Five Percenters. The Hip Hop legend had both the media and 5 Percent representatives questioning his association with the group.
Fellow Brooklyn emcee Papoose spoke with VladTV about Jigga rocking the 5% medallion, and The Nacirema Dream creator suggests that if Jay is going to wear the regalia he should attend community-based events sponsored by the organization.
“You know Jay been wearing the flag on his neck. I would like to see him at the annual ‘Show & Prove’ we do every year,” said Pap. “I come out there and represent. Kay Slay comes out. A couple of artists came out in the past. Rakim… the list goes on. But yo, you’re representing that flag; I’d like to see him come out there, and do something positive for the people.”
