Apathy Explains "Martha Moxley (R.I.P.)" Significance
by Andres Tardio
Apathy details the backstory of "Martha Moxley (R.I.P.)" and discusses the locations from the song's music video.
When Apathy released "Martha Moxley (R.I.P.)," a cut off the rapper's upcoming album Connecticut Casual recently, some wondered where the track title came from.
"It was just a line in the song initially," Apathy says in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX.
Later, Apathy crafted the song's hook and its title. "[It]
out of respect for a young girl whose life was cut far too short, and
so people would Google it, and become familiar with the story," Ap says.
"Michael Skakel, who murdered her, was a cousin of the Kennedy family.
It was another thread that tied the album concepts together, a dark,
tragic, historical Connecticut event."
Keeping Connecticut's importance, Apathy shot the music video for "Martha Moxley (R.I.P.)" in the state.
"It was local places in the town I live, New London,
Connecticut," Apathy says. "New London is my favorite place I've ever
lived. It represents Connecticut and New England in a concentrated,
focused way. It's half beautiful, historic, scenic, next to the ocean
and half hood and grimy. It's like a small version of all of New
England, which reflects that dynamic."
Apathy's "Martha Moxley (R.I.P.)" is as follows:

DJ Babu Reveals DJ Premier's Dilated Peoples Collaboration On "Directors Of Photography"
by Andres Tardio
Directors of Photography does not have a release date, but the album is expected to be released this year. For more on what Babu, Evidence and Rakaa have said about the project, click here.

Exclusive: DJ Babu describes DJ
Premier's influence on Dilated Peoples and explains how it felt to
scratch on the Premier beat for "Good As Gone."
As Dilated Peoples gears up to release its upcoming album, Directors Of Photography,
on Rhymesayers Entertainment, DJ Babu says the group's bond with DJ
Premier has continued to grow through the years. So, when the time came
for the trio to work on their first album in approximately eight years,
it made sense for them to recruit Premier for a beat on the effort.
"For us, it was an honor and no brainer," Babu says while
discussing the group's work with Preemo in an exclusive interview with
HipHopDX. "Come on. You’re getting a track from DJ Premier. It’s almost
the end-all, say-all of this Rap shit."
Now a friend of the group, Premier, who produced "Clockwork" on Dilated's Expansion Team album, sent some work their way for the new effort.
"He sent over a few [beats]," Babu says, "more than most
people get. We actually have a relationship with him, where we actually
get a little room to pick and choose."
One of those beats was for "Good As Gone," a cut DJ Premier produced on Directors of Photography.
"This was probably the third one he sent over," Babu says.
"We all went ‘Boom! Here it is.’ That was the easy part. The hard part
was us three in the room just brainstorming. ‘Okay, you got this
beautiful backdrop ready to get ripped.'"
DJ Babu Explains The Nature Of Dilated Peoples' Directors Of Photography
Babu says Dilated tried two or three different versions of
the song before finalizing the cut. This part of the process
exemplifies the group's journey on Directors of Photography. "I
think that was the nature of our record," Babu says. "Nothing came too
easy or too quick, because we always had this pressure of, you know
‘This is our comeback.' Especially this track. It’s DJ Premier. You are
bringing your A-plus game."
The results were impressive, Babu says.
"It ended up being one of the most exciting songs on the
record," he explains. "Definitely something I think we are all talking
about putting a visual to. Just in the sense that it’s the lone Dilated
Peoples cut produced by DJ Premier [on this album]. The value in that
for us is priceless, man. The guys really did their thing on the raps
and killed the beat Preemo gave us. It's one of those beats that has a
crazy change. You know, like that part that’s the intro and the hook is
just a damn near different beat than when the guys are actually rhyming.
We are really excited. I really feel like we got Preem to really come
up with something special for us."
DJ Babu, who handles the scratches on this DJ
Premier-produced cut, says the vocal samples they used on the track made
the concept clear for Evidence and Rakaa.
"I feel for this one, it felt right for me to scratch," he
says. "We really pushed Preem to come with this crazy, magical beat.
Me, Ev and Rak had a really difficult time like settling with an idea,
and I think when we finally found the right cuts, it really helped bring
everything together. We tried two or three song ideas on this one
before it finally came together, but we damn-near collaged together
three ideas to get this one idea for this Preemo song. You know, I’m
sure Preemo could have come in there and did his thing, but being one of
the last groups that has a real deejay in the group, even though
Preemo’s producing the track, I thought it would be good for me to be on
the cut."
DJ Babu Recalls DJ Premier's Response To Cuts On "Good As Gone"
More than this, DJ Babu says he was honored by Premier's reaction to his cuts.
"I’m really blessed because he put some vocals on the
beginning of the top of the track, shouting us out and stuff," Babu
says. "It even says ‘DJ Babu on the cut’ right before I start
scratching. I was just so flattered, like ‘Preem just shouted me out.’
Not only to get to scratch on the Preem track, but to get the thumbs up
from him, really meant a lot to me, man. He’s such a big influence on me
and the whole group."
In October 2013, DJ Babu spoke with HipHopDX about the album and its progress at the time.
"In this process, not that much has changed," DJ Babu said at the
time. "You'd be surprised how easily you fall back into your roles and
understand where you fit in with each other. Being in the studio is
definitely something that we love and something that we would probably
do whether we had a Dilated album to work on or not. We're like studio
rats. Ev was definitely producing the shit out of this record. All of
us, but Ev was really striving for a sound. We still are striving for a
particular cohesive sound that we're trying to get. Things have changed
since we've been around, but we're trying to walk a fine line between
keeping it classic and pushing it forward...We've spent a lot of time
sharpening our swords and I feel like Ev's been leading us in that
direction, to really try new things while still being us."Directors of Photography does not have a release date, but the album is expected to be released this year. For more on what Babu, Evidence and Rakaa have said about the project, click here.

Tupac Says Quad Shooting, Sexual Assault Case Were "All Connected" In Previously Unheard Phone Call
by Danielle Harling
During the nearly 25 minute-long phone call, Tupac discussed his plans for the community, the shooting at Quad Studios, and approaching Maya Angelou to obtain her assistance in writing his autobiography.
While speaking on helping the community, Tupac shared his plans to launch a youth sports organization that would include teams coached by rappers. In addition to the youth sports organization, he also spoke on recruiting his fellow artists to perform at free block parties in the hood.
“I want to get this organization started with you,” Tupac said, while speaking with Sanyika. “Only we can do it. Let me tell you the idea. It’s where we start this youth league, right? Football league, basketball…softball, for girls and boys. I’mma get all the rappers to adopt a team. Each rapper have his own team. Coolio will have his team. Treach have his team. I’ll have my team. And we play. And the rappers the ones that put the money up. We get the field to play. We have the churches come out and sell food. We have the fathers and the uncles and all of the men in the community, they do security…Get that community spirit going again. And then on the weekends we have block parties. Every rapper gotta give it up. Every rapper, nigga, you gotta wreck it out. You gotta get up for us. You gotta come do a free show for the hood.”
Later in the phone call, Tupac spoke on registering people to vote during his block parties and using those newly-registered voters to approach politicians about requests for the community. On top of his youth league and block parties, Pac said he also wanted to approach drug dealers directly about keeping neighborhoods safe for children during certain hours.
“And then when we do that we register the voters,” he said. “And if we can register them for Democrats, Republicans, or Independent. Once we register the voters we have power. Then we start going up to the mayors of these cities and telling them ‘Look, we got this many voters in this city. We want you to do this.’
“I’mma have all these tough-ass supposed-to-be-gangster-rappers,” Pac added. “We gonna all get in the van. We gonna travel…We gon’ drive to all these drug areas, right? Imagine me Redman, Treach, Ice Cube, them type of niggas. Getting out, going to whoever the main drug dealer on that block—‘Who run shit?’ If we get out of a van and be like ‘What’s up, nigga? How y’all doing? What’s up? Yo, who the nigga that run shit?’ They gon’ take us to that nigga. We invite those niggas to dinner. Invite them niggas to some Dom Perignon, steak, and lobster. And be like ‘Look playa, we asking you, not telling you. We asking you as a playa to a playa, can you please give us a pass to have these streets clean from 6 AM to 11 PM. Let that be for the kids. Let them niggas be safe during that time. No gunshots. No drug dealings.”
In regards to the shooting at Quad Studios, which resulted in Tupac being shot five times, he said the incident and his sexual assault trial were “all connected.”
“The girl that did this rape shit, she hooked up with the niggas that shot me," Tupac said. "It’s all connected. It was a big plan. I just caught it like at the end. And that’s why they shot me."

by Andres Tardio
"Yes," he says during an interview with Good Day Philadelphia. "You will see an album by late November."
This follows a recent reunion from the group during Summer Jam 2014.
XXL magazine reported that the group is in the process of working on a new studio album in a piece published yesterday (June 3).
“We got no dates, we working,” Young Buck said. “[We] in the studio. Stay tuned.”
Lloyd Banks also chimed in.
“Work in progress," he said. "We just put out the new freestyle today. Check it out."
50 Cent also said the group is ready to work.
“Being able to bring everybody out to actual shows is not difficult for me,” 50 Cent said. “I can do it. I have a compass, a moral compass that comes from my corner on 134th Street. We supposed to behave and respond to each other a certain way. We supposed to hustle to eat. We supposed to get what we supposed to get, not have things handed to us because nobody never gave me nothing. It may be my fault for enabling them at points.
“I expected them to continue to get what they want immediately,” he added. “And then now having everybody back in the circle, the morale is great. They all ready to work. They been on ice long enough. So now you should expect [something]. You already got something new today. It didn’t take but a few hours after the show. Meltdown, it’s on now. It don’t take as much out of me as it takes for me to create a solo song than to create and participate in a G-unit record. We have so many moving parts on it and everybody got to show up.”
Yesterday, G-Unit released a "0-100" remix. Before that, the crew also released "Nah I'm Talking 'Bout."

Ryan Leslie announces the

is launched to the public July 4, 2014.
“Disruptive Multimedia offers a direct-to-consumer business model that is second to none,” Ryan Leslie says in a press release. “This will be a revolutionary model for audiences to be able to communicate with their favorite artists. The press release also notes that, "Leslie created Disruptive Multimedia, a platform that provides artists with direct methods of keeping in touch with their followers. Disruptive Multimedia also provides artists with customer details that merchants and retailers don’t share in transactions. The press release also notes that, "Leslie created Disruptive Multimedia, a platform that provides artists with direct methods of keeping in touch with their followers. Disruptive Multimedia also provides artists with customer details that merchants and retailers don’t share in transactions. There are bottom line implications for artists: all music can be digitally distributed directly to the consumer, which saves in logistics, operations, and retail costs."
The company also enables fans to call and e-mail artists directly, the press release adds.
